Ultragem Fish & Coral Inc.

The Short:
They have a good collection of coral, fish, and products, but after spending $ 2k+ on a setup, their lack of communication and honesty will keep me from spending any more money here.
The Long:
Came to check it out and was impressed with the selection talked to them and got a price on a 90 gallon reef setup. Pulled the trigger on it the next day (Saturday) and went to pick everything up. They did not have the lights and mounts that I wanted in stock along with a check valve. I was told they would order these on Monday to have them in by Tuesday. Went home to setup the tank. After getting it all set up, adding 80 pounds of sand, 30 pounds of rock and 20 gallons of water I received a call saying that they forgot to get me a spacer mat that goes under the tank and sump. This irritated me a bit but when I got there Armand apologized and gave me a very nice piece of dry rock for free as well as stating he would do something for me on the lights, mounts, and check valve. After never receiving a call on Tuesday, I assumed that all my items arrived and I could pick them up. When I arrived NONE of the products were there and they asked which color I wanted. I told them black and they said that their distributer was out of stock on those so they had ordered the white ones. Even though they ordered the white lights they didn’t have those either… Plus what about the mounts and valve check? Nope… They said their distributer would get more in a couple of days so they would order them along with the mounts. So this means sounds like they never placed the order otherwise they would have the mounts already. Now over a week later I am told their distributer wont have the lights for another ~3 weeks but they do have the mounts. I told them I would source the lights myself and come by to get the mounts, valve and a refund. We telling them how I was not happy how everything was handled they dig a deeper hole saying they actually canceled the order on the white lights after I said I didn’t want white. I find it difficult to cancel and order that was placed the day before with next day air that arrived before I got there…
At the end of the day, people make mistakes. For me it is worth more to own up to them than to try to trick the client. Needless to say myself, nor my friend who convinced me to get into the hobby plan on going back.

Besides being able to see several beautiful, sparkling tanks filled with gorgeous fish, invertibrates and plants, there seems to be very knowledgeable staff at Ultra Gem. I came with my kids the first time and they were in awe of the starfish, sharks, rays and variety of fish. We spoke with Armand/​Arman (sp?) and he was extremely helpful. We purchased the items we needed and were on our way. Later, when I had numerous questions, (We’re newbies to the fish game) he patiently answered all of my questions. Over a month later I called for some advice and again, they took the time to speak patiently with me and gave me great advice. I wasn’t pushed to come in and buy specifically from them. But I will go out of my way to buy from them whenver possible because of the kind way we were treated. And of course, the evidence of their knowledge and experience is clear when you look around at their amazing tanks.

Armand from Ultragem came over and took care of my tank for 3 weeks while I was out of the country and he did a wonderful job. My tank was well taken care of and I am happy they are in Burbank, near me!

Cutting edge of reefing compared to dudes pushing metal hi-​lights and bio ball filled sumps. Great customer service! They listen to my rants about my tank and help figure out what i need to get. The shop is super clean and organized as well as their crystal clear tanks.

the best place to get ur reef supplies, live rock and coral. i got really nice cool corals for a really low price. and they have the lowest price on live rocks super friendly and they won’t sell u anything that u don’t need thats what i luv about this place

I was shopping for water some where else but since I found out that ultragem is selling red sea pro I starting doing business with them for now on I will be shopping at this stop cause they only trying to sell the best for this hobby aram and arman are very friendly and always trying to help out every one in this hobby

These guys are awesome. Very knowledgable and helpful. I found them a couple months after starting my first reef tank and now it’s hard to go anywhere else. Aram can hook you up with anything you’re looking for. Find them on Facebook for active auctions!

Came here the other day to check out the saltwater coral selection but was not impressed. They had very little selection with some already loosing color. On the plus side they have a very nice set up. The employees are very knowledgeable about the tanks and equipments. Found out they just opened 6 months ago. Hopefully business will kick up and they’ll get more shipments of corals for customers.

These guys are super helpful! They explain everything and make you feel welcome.
If you are looking for something specific and they don’t carry it they will gladly find it for you! Definitely my go to fish store

Bought a little tank for 7 year old. Great place and amazing customer service.
A week after buying the tank had a few questions. Called and the guy did a free of charge visit to make sure my setup was correct and fish were healthy. Highly recommend

The newest and cleanest fish store with the most reasonable prices I have ever been to (considering I have checked out every fish store within a 50 mile radius from Pasadena haha).
Aram and the rest of the guys are very helpful, friendly, and only want to help you have the best fish tank you can have. They don’t try to push you to buy fishes which clearly could not be compatible.
All fish and corals look healthy and happy. I will definitely return to buy more fish.

What is there to say? 5 stars! great people, knowledgeable and super chill! Great range of dry goods from high end to low end. anything you need, awesome display tanks, super clean setups, very modern not like a mom/​pop shop with fish smell and run down tanks etc. Prices are very competitive, couldn’t leave without picking something up. Livestock look extremely healthy. Definitely putting this place as one of my favorites fish stores!

Ultragem is THE spot to go to for all your aquarium needs. I’ve been to many spots before, and I thought I was going to the best spots. I was wrong! Thanks to my friend who referred me to Ultragem. The guys here know what they’re doing. They specialize in both saltwater and freshwater tanks! You can tell that they’ve been keeping aquariums their whole lives.
First time I walked in, what caught my attention were the stingrays and sharks. Yes, real stingrays and sharks! No other fish store I went to had them. They have a variety of fish, starting from the peaceful clownfish all the way to the aggressive puffer fish. If there is a particular fish you want and they don’t have it, they will go out of their way to get it for you!
Other shops just try to sell stuff not caring about your tank. All they care about is making money! Adam & Arman at Ultragem will never sell you something you don’t need, or that will harm your tank. They care about their fish and they would never put them to harm. They will sell you what you really need, and nothing more. I went in with my friend, and he wanted to buy shrimp, but after they tested the water, they told him not to get it yet since his water’s ammonia levels were high, when they could have not cared and just sold it to him to make money. Nope, these guys aren’t like that.
Another thing that I loved about this store, which other stores don’t have, is a small tank full of corals, etc. which you can buy and plant in your tank! This place is honestly awesome and I definitely recommend it to everyone who already has a tank, or is trying to start a new one! Great job to the guys at Ultragem! Definitely recommending this place to everyone!

They were clean and had healthy looking fish. Not a lot of selection though. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have any sumps on hand, but the guy took my name, number, and dimensions to see what they have. I received a text saying they have one but it looked like a very similar sump I found online. They say they custom make their sumps. I dunno.

OMG This place is awesome! Clean. Tidy. Spotless. Tons of different fish lots of unusual species. Small freshwater selection for now but they plan on expanding as it just opened. Freshwater has lots of African cichlids for now. bottom line is this place is definitely worth checking out and we will definitely be back.

I visited this store a few days ago and was pretty impressed with their setup. Very spaceous and tidy. The staff was very knowledgable and very helpful. Wide variety of exotic saltwater fish, corals, and freshwater fish. A one stop shop for a big hobbyist like myself. Great experience. Highly recommended!

These guys rock! The best quality fish and coral shop I’ve ever been to. Great service and nice selection of new pets to choose from. State of the art equipment and and lighting. This place looks more like a modern art gallery then your typical fish store. They have the ability to make custom aquariums in any sizes and custom cabinetry and also will service your tank! These guys are the real deal! One stop shop! Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been there!
