Story: once upon a time, I was a high school student who was a part of the school’s broadcast staff (in addition to enjoying three years as an editor on the yearbook staff). Broadcasting requires some equipment that the school doesn’t have the budget to buy, so I decided to pick up a couple mics knowing I’d probably be using them anyway for freelance stuff and other gigs after I graduated. This was a perfect decision, but mics tend to wear out – and since it has been greater than five years and less than 10 years since my high school graduation, I guess it was time for my lav mic to kick the bucket.
…and kick the bucket it did, sparks and all. I never knew it was possible for a lav to fail in such a spectacular way. I guess I know now!
I started poking around on Trew’s consignment section, and I found the exact Lectrosonics lav mic I needed. Not only was Trew’s price well below what the Lectro lavs normally sell for given the uncommon cable termination (Lectro lavs are usually terminated for negatively-​biased TA5 °F connections, and I needed the Sennheiser locking plug), Trew was offering a kit of two for that same insanely-​low price. Really, I thought there was a typo or something. Lectrosonics sells one mic in this particular termination option for about $ 180-​$ 210 a pop, and Trew’s two-​piece kit was $ 100. At that price, I was sold. I just needed to find out how to order them since consignment items can’t be purchased directly from the website.
I fired up the email machine and got a response back about an hour after they opened. These guys do business with the big production houses in addition to us «little guys», so to see that kind of turnaround time on communication is amazing. I got my authorization form in their hands, and they had the mics out the door the next day after I called to confirm my card info. I didn’t have to hold, and they didn’t keep me on the line for longer than was needed. It’s like Trew actually understands you have stuff you need to do and don’t need to sit through 20 minutes of sales pitches for stuff you’ll never use.
When my mics were delivered, they were in perfect condition. Both of them work with my Sennheiser G3 bodypack, and they sound and look just as good as brand new mics. Considering these Lectro lavs are notoriously difficult to hide on camera, it’s nice knowing I don’t have to worry about any shots being ruined because the mic looks and sounds beat to hell. More importantly, since I’m only going to be using one mic at a time, I have a spare now for the next time something dies. Since I tend to baby my equipment – and it looks like the previous owner babied these mics – I’m sure that will be years down the road at this point.
I am extremely happy with Trew, and I will likely be buying equipment from them again in the future. I don’t get my gear from them next-​day like I would with other companies, but what they offer from a service and product quality standpoint makes it worth the wait.

Been going to Trew audio since it was Coffey Sound. Have bought about 98% of my gear there. I literally live 5 – 6 block from another professional sound equipment dealer and I still prefer to take the further drive to Trew. The staff is very knowledgeable and polite. They always take good care of me. The service department is amazing. There is almost nothing they can’t build or fix in a timely manner. Have never rented from them since I own my own package but I have never heard a complaint from anyone I have sent over there to rent gear.

Trew Audio, like other Location Audio specific sales and rental houses is absolutely Fantastic and has saved me when I’m a pickle on more than one occasion.
They’re always willing to go the extra mile, whether it be in repairing gear, hooking me up on rentals or locating a special piece of equipment I need for a shoot… Even on weekends when they’re technically closed!
Their suggestions are always on point and they are top notch pros … Period!!!
If you are a professional please do yourself a favor and use Trew Audio!!!
…avoid cut rate rental houses, save yourself the hassle of shoddy gear and keep your mixer happy!

Just got off the phone with Jonathan. He was incredibly helpful, answering each and everyone of my questions no matter how basic. Time was taken to help me understand the equipment I required. Leaving the conversation I felt educated and valued as a customer. Will be going to Trew Audio first when it comes time to shoot my short film.

The staff is really kind and super knowledgeable. If u need a demo or just have a question they are there to help.
Film Tools and EVS (especially film tools) are not as reliable for sound as this place.
