The Tangerine

Very cute hotel in a nice area. Close drive from Universal Studios, which is why I initially chose it. It’s a great price as well. Very friendly front desk when I checked in, and had a slight problem with the bathtub which was addressed immediately. I stayed here with my two kids, who wanted to jump in the pool but we didn’t have time. One did stick his foot in and say it was heated, which it was cold outside at the time so that sounded nice. Our room was clean and large enough, and it was quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Clean, quiet, friendly staff, convenient location, heated pool, comfy beds. Only four stars because it’s just a little pricey — but same price for a cookie-​cutter room at a chain hotel. They did lovely and unique in a tasteful way.

Decent place to stay while you explore Hollywood, very close to universal studios and just a few minutes away from the walk of stars, the hotel itself is fairly modern retro in and outside of the hotel, however for the price i paid per night ($ 180) I would expect a more comfortable mattress, they are too firm which cause a lot of tossing and turning for my whole group of 4, hard to sleep on and get comfortable, i would stay here again, but it wouldn’t be my first choice, 3 stars.

My wife and I stayed here because we had tickets to see a taping of the ‘Big Bang Theory’ at the nearby Universal Studios (Bazinga!). I was a bit reluctant because it’s a converted old-​school motel, and I am not partial to either orange or tangerines. Not to mention traffic or smog.
But I am very partial to Sheldon, and I had no choice.
So, my spot abandoned, I proceeded to stock up on tissues and disinfectant (and that was just for SouthWest airlines). We found The Tangerine very close to Burbank Airport, which seems like it was used in the movie Casablanca (which we later learned had shots taken at Warner Bros. studios)… A quick rental car ride later, we arrived. It was 12:05 pm.
The friendly hotel employee looked suspiciously like Ricky Ricardo. He smiled, looked down at his watch and said, «Hm. It’s 12:05 pm. Check in is 1:00 pm.» Panicked, I looked for my spot on the orange couch nearby… but could not find it. He then called someone on a radio (or was it a 1990s cell phone?), and Bazinga! they found a room for us.
We climbed the stairs, and I noticed that strangely this retro 1950s property lacked an elevator. I quickly identified my emergency exits, and we entered our room. I believe it was 233 — a corner room. The room was — surprise — orange, and looked like it was from a much fancier hotel than a 1950s motel. I entered. I looked around: luxury. I exited. Closed the door. Looked around: 1950s Cuba-​style motel. I re-​entered: luxury. I exited: Cuba. I re-​entered: luxury.
My wife told me to stop.
I pondered whether bed bugs might exist in this hotel, or whether we might have picked them up on SouthWest airlines as our carry-​on snuggled next to that suspicious woman wearing slick black pants. No bed bugs, assured me, my wife.
We unpacked. I noted that the WiFi was excellent (strange, I thought, for a 1950s motel to have WiFi — could it be original?). Left for the Big Bang theory taping… our GPS indicated it was an 8 minute walk: so we drove. We arrived and witnessed the performance.
I waived at Sheldon. He did not wave back.
I saw my spot. All was well with the world. We left and went to Bob’s Big Burger (very near to The Tangerine) and I thought of Austin Powers… thinking that Bob’s Big Burger had gone out of business, but really it had never left. «Where was Dr. Evil now?», I pondered.
We returned to The Tangerine, slept (and perhaps did other sorts of adult behaviors — you’ll never know), packed up and left. Thank you, Tangerine, for a wonderful hotel experience in Burbank, California.

Overall the Hotel is nice and clean, remodeled to be a boutique hotel offering upscale design and modern amenities. If you are looking for a super quiet stay this hotel may be a tad on the noisy side if you are near the back end of the hotel’s room selection.

Very clean, very friendly, super cute hotel! I absolutely loved the unique, updated rooms. Next to a perfect little Mexican restaurant. so you can have a good dinner and drinks, then walk to your room. I don’t know what the people in the other review were talking about with noise… this place is quiet and I slept like a baby! Barely could hear the cars (or lack there of). I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. Thanks Tangerine for a great, comfortable, clean, quiet and enjoyable stay!

My fourth time staying at the Tangerine and still fabulous. I am always greeted warmly. My room was comfortable and clean. I rented a car and had a spot every night. I stay longer now because this is such a great place. Kamal and everyone there are great!

Five Stars ALL DAY LONG — what an amazing find!!!
The premise: My son had a early morning photo shoot with a well known LA photographer and the thought of coming from Carlsbad the day of would be problematic so I needed an affordable night before option that was close to the photo studio.
PROS:
1. More bang for your buck — such a sweet hotel (okay converted hotel) for such a modest price!
2. Upscale décor with extras including a mini-​fridge, high-​end toiletries, thick towels, blow dryer, iron, etc.
3. Most comfortable bed I’ve EVER slept in with incredibly soft sheets! It was like sleeping on a cloud.
4. A custom espresso machine in the lobby to make your custom café mocha, café latte, hot chocolate drinks available ²⁴⁄₇.
5. Adequate parking for FREE!
6. A great number of dining options within walking distance including a higher end Mexican restaurant adjacent, Pizzeria, Subway, Chipotle & a Big Boy — all within ½ — 2 blocks away easily within walking distance.
7. Convenient to freeways — super close to Universal Studios!
8. Super CLEAN!

I’ve stayed at 5 star resorts to establishments that don’t even rank a one star rating. But I am good (unlike some previous reviews) to compares apples to apples. No, this property is NOT a Ritz Carlton — nor do they present themselves as such. Understand that I was trying to find a property with at least a 4 star rating for under $ 200 was a challenge and this was a GREAT find and well worth a visit. Yes it is really a motel — but a perfect conversion!
I can’t recommend this property enough and honestly I can’t wait for an excuse to come back!

The hotel seems like it was a motel that was converted to be a hotel. Thus, there are no restaurants in the courtyard area. There are however tons of restaurants within walking distance.
It is VERY clean and posh and probably for a younger crowd. The manger, Kamal, was AMAZING and his customer service skills are OUTSTANDING!!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KAMAL TO HELP YOU BOOK!
Also, their Wii Fi went down this morning and it was taking a while to fix. The staff were quite helpful, responsive, attentive and well trained.
Price point is excellent for this area. Burbank can easily reach $ 200 plus a night unless you want to stay at the Ramada or Quality Inn and that’s no joke.

Overall a good value with a great location, close to Warner bothers studios. universal studio is only one mile away. There at least 5 restaurants within easy walking distance. Would stay here again.

I stayed here for 2 nights while on a short trip to Burbank, and have nothing but positive things to say.
Don’t let the small size of the hotel fool you — the décor of the rooms is quite nice, and the staff keep things well cleaned. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was in great shape.
The staff was always friendly and happy to help when I had a question.
Though I didn’t take a chance to use the pool, it was kept clean and looked very inviting.
The general area around the hotel felt very safe, and had some great restaurants and cafes nearby.
A short drive to the freeway and downtown Burbank make this hotel very accessible.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Nice little hotel in the heart of Burbank, plenty of parking and loads of restaurants within walking distance. Super close to Warner Bros. studios and not too far from the Greek Theatre — (both places were the reason we were in LA). Check in was quick and courteous. Room was clean and comfortable. Didn’t get a chance to use the pool, but it did look inviting. All in all it was a great place to stay and I wouldn’t hesitate staying at the Tangerine Hotel again.
(The complimentary cuban pastries from Porto’s doesn’t hurt either!)

BE PREPARED FOR THEM TO THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE ROOM BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT!
Totally strange. Not 1 but two people inspected my room during check out. I am not a criminal nor did I make enough noise to warrant a full pat down.
I stayed in plenty of 5 * hotels and this was strange and intrusive.
It’s an overhauled motel 6 with a wood fence sculpture and a dumb orange accent wall that made me feel claustrophobic. NOT IMPRESSED.
Also they charge a $ 250 deposit plus the cost of the room. High end actual hotels do not even do this. Waste of money. Especially since they don’t even have a real parking lot. And «breakfast» consists of a few pastries if you get up in time from a Mexican joint down the street.

This is NOT a hotel! It’s a renovated motel. I thought that for the price, name, and photos online that I was getting a swanky hotel. Not the case.
When we pulled up to the motel, the tiny lot was full and we had to park on the street. The gentleman behind the counter offered parking in the back, but I’ve watched too many horror movies to park in a dark alley.
I was under the impression that I had prepaid for the room online as I usually do. The gentleman told me in a very condescending manner that he has «never heard of that in his 4 years». Whatever. Then I was charged a $ 250 deposit for one night. $ 250?! Most high end hotels only charge up to $ 50. Again, whatever.
The room was clean and tastefully decorated with Ikea furniture and some weird wood sculpture. Overall, our evening was satisfactory. Not worth the price I paid, but it was quiet and clean.
When we went to check out, we were informed that the room needed to be inspected in order to release the deposits. Are we criminals? Two minutes after the employee was paged to check the room, the guy behind the counter was called over. He returns from checking the room and accuses us of smoking in the room. We explained that we had vaped and he proceeds to say that he will need to use heavy deodorizers because the smell was so bad. Regardless of your personal views on vaping, the smell and cloud dissipate within 5 minutes. It’s not cigarette smoke and I have never had an issue with getting a deposit back. Then, to top it off, this guy tries to say we were smoking wax. We don’t smoke weed. My boyfriend had to argue with the guy to get my deposit back.
Needless to say, they were unprofessional, condescending, and overpriced. Never again.

We booked a room for this hotel through
for our friends visiting. We tried checking into the hotel around 2AM and the front desk told us they never received the reservation. Not only was the front desk person rude and unprofessional, they did not offer us any other alternatives. They refused to allow our friends to check into a room for the night and then work out the issue with
(a 3^rd party with whom they have a relationship with). Our friends were left without a hotel room for the night.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. For $ 200+ a night and the unprofessional staff we had to deal with, I would rather pay a little more and stay at the Amarano Hotel close by (and I regret not booking our stay there instead).

The staff at this hotel were very friendly. The first night there the A/​C wasn’t working as well as we would’ve liked so we called the front desk and informed them within 10 minutes the maintenance supervisor was there and made some internal adjustments to the unit and it was cool from that point on.
Everyone was very accomadating for the most part. We were in town for the ELLEN show which was about a 15 minute walk away. The day of the show we asked if there was any way that we could leave our luggage in a storage closet so that we could pick up afterwards– we wanted to move to a hotel closer to the airport as our flight was leaving out of LAX early the
next morning. They wouldn’t let us and we were forced to have to rent the room for another night. It was more expensive than the nicer hotels beside LAX.
This is an older hotel and its «cozy». There were for of us and for a 5 night it got pretty cramped. I wouldn’t suggest it if you’re planning on staying for longer than 1 or 2 nights.
My biggest complaint is that there wasn’t an elevator and we were forced to haul our luggage up to the 2^nd floor. That was very inconvenient especially for the price that we paid.
I had never been to LA and didn’t realize how spread out everything was. We didn’t spend much time in Burbank and it was a good 15 – 20 minute drive to most of the touristy things we wanted to do or else I would’ve stayed closer to W. Hollywood and caught a über or lyft to the studio. (When in LA these 2 car services are your best friends)
I would suggest this hotel for no more than 2 or 3 ppl and no longer than a max of 3 nights.

This not a HOTEL. This is a MOTEL.
A hotel has room doors that open to a hallway, and they offer things like room service.
A motel has doors that open to the outside of a building and they don’t have things like room service.
The fact that it’s a motel shouldn’t immediately scream «Dump» or «Trashy.» The Tangerine [M]otel isn’t either of those things. It’s seated right at the border of Burbank and Toluca Lake. It’s a trendy little part of town, with several great dining options in the immediate vicinity.
The décor is modern-​Ikea-​ish. Our room was fun with artistic pieces of wood and a wall covered in multi-​colored images.
The lobby offers 24 hour coffee/​tea choices, and a limited Porto’s selection of pastries in the morning.
The staff is courteous and friendly. They also offer a military discount (but you need to show your ID or DD-​214).
My only complaint is the bed. Hard like a rock. Uncomfortable. I woke up with such a back ache… ugh. I wouldn’t mind staying there again if they upgraded their mattresses.
Also, they offer free Wi-​Fi, but for some reason on our stay, it wouldn’t connect.

Stayed at the Tangerine for two nights on a business trip, as my client recommended it. For the price, this is a very good value.
Location is excellent. Close to Universal Studios and Disney. Many places to eat, within walking distance. Safe neighborhood. Room extremely clean and well maintained. Quirky décor. Free wifi and free breakfast. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. Plenty of free parking.
A couple of things to consider. If you are mobility impaired, ask for a room on the first floor, as there is no elevator. Also, this is a motel, not a hotel. Not a big deal, but don’t be surprised.
Overall, I recommend it and will stay there again.
