Specialties
Song Squared specializes in helping students discover the music within them while receiving a strong foundation in the building blocks of music. We excel in motivating students through creativity, turning barriers into pathways and transforming practice into passion. Teaching supporting units in chords, scales, ear training, sight reading, vocal & instrumental performance, and improvisation ensure that our students will have a unique voice in whatever they decide to do in music, or in life. Although we are a piano-based songwriting and film/TV composition curriculum, all ages, instruments, and skill levels are welcome. Contact us today to learn more!
History
Established in 2014.
At age 10, Dave Christensen had the good fortune to be involved in a program that taught college level theory in a way that was accessible to students at a young age. Through this program, Dave was able to become a proficient musician and have a mature grasp on music theory throughout his whole career, which has allowed him to work along some of the best minds in the music business.
Meet the Business Owner
Dave C.
Business Owner
Hundreds of parents and students have come to know Dave as a passionate educator. As the founder of Song Squared, his mission is to help connect people with their musical creativity. Many of his students have gone on to achieve success and honors, including as a finalist on The Voice, working with members of Arcade Fire, and studying at The Colburn Conservatory of Music.
At age 10, Dave was selected for a special program, touring Illinois with his teacher to demonstrate how complex material could be made accessible for all ages (this has formed the basis of his teaching now).
Dave started working for artists such as Johnny Mathis, Kenny G, Don Davis, and Jorge Calandrelli as a music proofreader and copyist. He was hired by The Walt Disney Company to manage the Legacy Library Project, which digitally archived the most valuable Disney music assets for future generations. Here, Dave has garnered valuable insights into film music, studying Disney classics and Pixar blockbusters.
