Music is my life, whether teaching, composing, production consultant or artist liaison, I’ve been doing this a while and don’t see myself doing anything else. After living on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe for 16 years I’m back in Southern California, where I started my adventures in music and piano performance at CSUN. I love teaching kids from 5 to 95, beginning through advanced. I even have a student going to Carnegie Hall this November! I’ve designed and implemented music classes, composed for film and have taught many individual students that have continued their music studies to the professional level, those that move on to other instruments, and most just love and appreciation music. All the new ways to learn, apps, digital work stations are so exciting! It doesn’t matter if you’re the hobbyist or preparing for college entry, music is a part of everyday life, and I love teaching it!

Laura is the best. She is so great at communicating style and technique with me in a way I totally understand. I haven’t been playing piano since age 5 so sometimes I need someone to break it down for me rather than just «tell it» and Laura does it perfectly.
I could not recommend her enough and I can’t wait to get back into lessons with her soon!

After changing several piano teachers for my 5 daughter i finally found THE ONE. Laura is incredible talented piano teacher who prepared my 6 y old daughter for American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition 2015. Thanks to Laura my daughter is going to perform in Carnegie Hall on Thanksgiving weekend as a finalist. I am as a mother love Laura’s methods. There is no stress in class or at home. It’s all fun experience. She is like a grandmother figure for my daughter who teaches the lesson to make sure my daughter is moving forward and learning new music and they always have time to have a little fun. Laura encourages my daughter to try to compose which is another great way to keep my little one focus on what she likes to do. Before Laura my daughter had Asian piano teacher who is a head of Piano department at a very well known institution (don’t want to say the name), who was too cold, too dry to compliment my child for her hard work. After only couple of classes I got the feeling that my daughter is scared of her teacher. Because of her my daughter didn’t want to play piano at all even though she could spend hours at the instrument, we had to drop off of that schoolI. I want my daughter to enjoy every moment while she’s with her teacher and to be very excited to go to the instrument and practice and be very happy to see her teacher again. That is exactly that kind of relationship she has with Laura. No matter how talented our kids are it takes lots of practice with a good coach and support. No one was born a great tennis, football player, ice skater, dancer, singer… Music is just like a new language takes time. Good piano teacher is just like a good doctor, you follow them.

Both an accomplished pianist and composer Laura is also a very kind and personable teacher that students of every age and ability would appreciate.
Laura was my piano instructor for the three years prior to my attending college where I majored in music. I am very grateful for the time I spent studying with Laura as I was well prepared for college auditions and the many challenges of pursuing music.
Prior to meeting Laura I had been playing piano for ten years but had only taken part in a few recitals and concerts and had played little of the standard repertoire. Thankfully Laura introduced me to classical masterpieces such as Chopin’s Nocturnes and Bach’s Inventions and provided many opportunities, such as community events and adjudicated performances, to present all the music I learned with her skillful guidance. Many of the composers that Laura introduced to me remain my favorites today including Brahms, Ravel and Rachmaninoff.

Laura Cook is a wonderful musician, composer, teacher and human being. I made a film and needed music composed for it very quickly. Laura did an excellent job and was very concerned that she wrote music that I liked and that was perfect for the film. She was juggling many responsibilities but was flexible with her time and made sure we met our deadline. I highly recommend her for lessons becasue she has a very pleasant personality, is kind and and is wonderful to work with!

Laura is fantastic.
She has been giving lessons to my 5 year old son for about a year now, and her methods combined with her patience far exceed anything I had hoped for. She is able to keep him engaged and interested in the music and the lesson in a way that I never expected. Like most 5 year olds, he is easily distracted and seems to want to move on to the next interesting thing every 3 minutes, but he can sit through her lessons with unexpected focus. Its not 100%, but that is about the child and not the teacher. The skill and technique is how to bring that attention back to the lesson, and being patient is key.
She is clearly a talented performer and musical expert, yet she is so very open to our suggestions, from the duration and focus of a lesson to even the kind of music that we feel our son would most respond to. We feel very lucky to have our son taking lessons from her. Highly recommended!
