Grove Theater Center

My husband and I have been to 2 plays at the grove theater center so far. First we saw the 3 person play the Christmas carol. The actors did such a great job portraying all the characters of the story. I love Christmas and I left there with my spirits lifted. while being reminded of my childhood. I still watch the Christmas carol every year. Last night we watched «Building madness», a new play they have and I couldn’t stop laughing. It was so funny. I just want to give them all big hugs for doing such a great job!

I purchased 4 tickets at Brown Paper Tickets for Building Madness. I was two minutes late. Left my brother waiting. Busy looking for parking. Told my dad and auntie to go ahead and I’ll meet them.
Well, I found parking far-​far away. Walked in the front entrance to a basketball area. Found out it’s a building in back. I was locked out. Show in performance. All doors shut. Locked. No answer even at a knock.
Boy-​o-​boys… Did I feel stupid… Its probably just a dumb play. What do I care… I can go the gym… hangout drinking boba… And there’s leftover bagel bites at home.
So my family’s watching the play without me. Enjoy the show. The review’s terrible.

I took my family to see «A Christmas Carol» at the GTC. It is a small theater, good friendly atmosphere and every seat has a good view. They sell cookies, coffee and water at the entrance. The theater itself needs some TLC, but it’s clean and there is plenty of free parking available.
The play was terrific! Three actors take you through the story as narrators, storytellers and characters. There is a small and simple stage which serves as the setting for the entire play, but the lighting, sounds and performance are enough to transport you to through the different locations and immerse you in the story. Jenna Augen, David Allen Jones and Frank Simons do a great job setting the ambiance and transmitting the emotions of each character.
We were not impressed when we arrived, in fact we were a bit hesitant about the event, but we left more than satisfied with the experience. It’s was definitely worth it!

Purchased from Livingsocial «A Christmas Carol,» play with complimentary hot drink (tea, cocoa or coffee) before the show. I saw «A Christmas Carol,» at the South Coast Repetory in Orange County last year, and wanted to check out this play this year.
Easiest way to find this theater — Google Map Creative Arts Center Gallery on 1110 W. Clark Ave., and park in the lot and walk towards the softball field and there’s a white building in front that will post banners/​flyers of the Grove Theater Center.
Got to the theater, I checked in and got my free hot drink (hot cocoa — they didn’t have hot apple cider), and took pictures all over. They also sell snacks and other drinks too. They start letting people in about 10mins before showing. The ambience is relaxing and they had Greensleeves and Christmas carols playing before the show.
Once the play started, I didn’t take anymore pics out of respect. This play is a three player production with no set background other than a large table used in the center stage. The players act out verbally and physically, and you use your imagination for the background scenes. I ended up using Jim Carrey’s cartoon version to follow the scenes in my mind. The only thing each player used was a large velvet scarf that they use to create the characters they are playing.
Frank Simons (Man), Jenna Augen (Woman), and David Allen Jones (Scrooge) did an amazing job. They were funny, engaging and full of energy. They nailed every aspect of the play within 80 minutes with no intemission. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it would have been boring with no set backgrounds or additional players, but nope — those three were terrific!!!
One star off: Small and intimate theater — seats about 100 people and the seats are hella small! You will be rubbing elbows with your seat mates, lol! I was fortunate that the couples sitting to both my sides were women since they were cuddling with their guys and so I got the elbow rests all to myself, lol! Also, my butt was actually hurting towards the end. Ideally, it would be nice if they got better, cushier seats, lol!
Yup — this place us worth coming to see another show again — I dig it!

The theater: Small theater but intimate. Every seat is good seat. They sell snacks & beverages. Small lobby with seats. Overall, very well maintained theater. Since it is not right near big street & no sign anywhere, it is hard to spot.
The Parking: Parking lot right next to the theater (free). Also street parking on Olive (free)!

The Show: «Inside Out» — AWESOME production! 6 female casts… ALL fantastic! Great voice & acting!!! Very funny story, really enjoy the show!!! Highly recommended~
The cast even came to the lobby to greet the audience after the show! It is nice to chat with them in person.

There truly is something to be said for small theatre. Brought my two boys and six others to see a «A Christmas Carol» and loved every moment. All the seats in the theatre were good. Actors came out to meet and greet after the show. Owner was working the concession stand. The experience of the «cozy» atmosphere was almost as fun as the play. Still smiling. You will not be disapointed. Great for family.

Moon Over Buffalo:
One of the best plays we’ve seen this year. Funny script and the actors enjoyed performing, making for a fine production.
Problems with the theatre:
Somewhat hard to locate. See my attached photo and head for the blue dot.
The slope of rows is not steep enough. I recommend sitting in the front row if you’d like to watch the play instead of the back of someone’s head.
A/​C was set to 66, but it only cooled down to 78. A bit too warm.
My seat was broken.

Watched a play called «The Yellow Boat» for hemophilia day on Saturday 05÷17÷14. It was so good, the play just blew my mind away.
The play was about a young boy who suffered from hemophilia and contracted HIV/​AIDS due to his medications.
The actors/​actresses have a very in depth understanding of the condition. I was so very moved that I shed tears.
They also have an open fee for viewing. They don’t want to prevent us from the priceless experience of a good theater.
Definitely will recommend this place to friends and colleagues.

This theater is a hidden gem in Burbank. Unless you’ve been to a show here, you probably haven’t heard of the Grove Theater. It’s a small, charming little space that’s perfect for an intimate night of theater.
The best part of this theater is that there’s always ample parking (usually on the street) and it’s so easy and convenient to get here. Who says you have to go to Hollywood to see great theater?

They sure do love to blast the AC in here!
This place is kind of difficult to find. If you put «1100 w. Clark» on your GPS you can find it easily. Just follow the signs that says «little theatre» and go inside the park’s parking lot. Follow the playground path and you’ll find the theatre.
This theatre fits about 100 people. 6 people per a row on the left side and 5 people per row on the right.
You might be able to get half off price tickets at

You can probably buy tickets at the door (cash only) for a bit more.

We went to see The Little Dog Laughed.
This is a cute little theater in the park. I highly recommend this place to see local plays because its a lot of fun and very relaxed.

Went here to see Sweet Karma last night.
«Sweet Karma,» a very well written play by Henry Ong with a fabulous cast including the multi-​talented extraordinaire Jully Lee.
There is nothing bad to say about this small theater. The people handling the will call was nice. There is no Will Call window per se so you get face to face with the theater staff.

Free parking on olive past the Rec Center. A great spot to check out a new play and a hidden gem inside the park. Come see a play with your friends and family!

The GTC-​Burbank Theatre has a completely non-​descript name to go along with its obscure location: it’s in George Izzay Park (whaaa?) between S. Victory Blvd. and N. Griffith Park Blvd. in Burbank (whaa?). You park near the jet plane (huh?) at 1111 W. Olive Avenue and walk into the park, past the Olive Recreation Center. The actual theatre is a stand-​alone building behind the rec center, and the entrance faces the softball field. I know, weird, huh? The first time I came here, I thought, «this CAN’T be right», but I found it by looking at the clot of hip-​cazh, artsy, starving-​artist-​lookin’ Asians standing in front of the building. This has been the home of Lodestone Theatre for the past couple of years — they’re the theatre-​in-​residence — and it’s a sweeet little facility. It’s intimate — I’m guessing somewhere around 90 seats? — but it’s a fairly new facility, so it’s kind of a tiny little jewel box compared to most sub-​99 seat theatres that dot the LA basin, with nice comfy seats, and a surprisingly plush-​yet-​funky ambience. It’s a nice place to see a show, and what’s inside is usually worth seeing, and even if it turns out to be a dud, you will already be smarter person than you were before, because you actually found the place!
