I cannot wait to order another Cake By Rumy! My first order looked amazing, tasted DIVINE and the process was smoother than the fondant the cake was decorated with.
First time order was for the bf’s surprise birthday cake and Rumy went above and beyond my original design concept. Not only was it a show-​stopper at the party, EVERYONE devoured it (even guests who said they normally don’t like cake). Moist chocolate cake layered with salted caramel ooey goodness.
Price was way more affordable than other bakeries, and Rumy personally delivered the cake.

Words cannot describe how worry-​free it was to order a delicious and personalized cake from Cakes by Rumy. I e-​mailed the party details and attached a few pictures of the style we were interested in and all the rest was taken care of. The cake arrived on time, put a huge smile on my daughter’s face and was absolutely delicious.

I passed by their shop earlier today (Friday January 15^th, 2016) and found an empty store front (see photo). The SnowPiffs next door, which was somehow connected with them, is also gone. There is an earlier picture here I had uploaded of a sign in their window stating that due to a high volume of orders Cakes By Ruby will not be taking any new orders from December 6^th through January 6^th. Did they move or are they simply out of business?

Loved the cake they made for my daughter’s birthday. Tasted yummy and everyone raved about the design. However, when I contacted them more than a month before needing a cake for my son’s birthday in the middle of December they told me they were no longer taking orders for December — despite the fact that their website says to contact them 5 – 14 days before needing a custom cake. Thought I’d found my go-​to bakery. Guess I’ll need to find someplace else.

We were referred to Cakes by Rumy by our wedding planner. Rumy did an amazing job creating a stunning wedding cake! We originally ordered a more «traditional» cake design, but afterwards changed our cake design as we really wanted a cake that made a statement — we asked Rumy if she could make a black wedding cake with gold foil and a cascade of sugar flowers — she easily revised our order. A few weeks leading up to the wedding day I started to get nervous about whether a black wedding cake would look as great in person as we have envisioned in our head — Rumy did not disappoint — our wedding cake as beautiful, got so many compliments, we didn’t want to cut it! And it was a delicious cake on top of how beautifully designed it was. She also did cookie duos as our wedding favors which also received a ton of compliments from our wedding guests!

Not only are the cakes beautiful, but they are also delicious and moist. I have had the pleasure of having Rumy make my wedding cake as well as my 30^th birthday cake and has not disappointed. She is also easy to work with in terms of design. Thank Rumy… can’t wait for the next event

I ordered a standard cake for 40 people over the phone and the lady I spoke to said they close at 6pm on Saturdays. My husband came at 5:30 and the place was closed. He called and left messages asking to let him know if they left for the day or they will come back. He waited for 20 minuites under the door and no one responded. We had to buy two cakes at Ralphs last minute for our party.
The next day at 1pm she called me (I left my number when I ordered) and said she still had the cake. She said they are sorry they forgot to leave a sign that the cake will be next door… wtf?! So they had my number all along, but I guess they just needed to leave early that day and my cake for $ 60 bucks was insignificant. …

This is the second time I get a standard cake from Cakes by Rumy. Their new location is a little bit of a drag when it comes to parking because it’s right off of Ventura blvd. aside from that, I was a little confused by the fact that you actually place your order etc next door at snow piffs… once I got that settled, the service was good. The lady at the counter was really nice and made helpful suggestions. We went with berries delight both times I ordered because it really is that good! It’s the perfect amount of sweet and the fresh fruit is delicious. The cake was a hit of course.
I honestly think that you can’t go wrong with cakes by Rumy! The vanilla bean and red velvety minis I got my first time for my son’s first bday were good too, several guests were asking me where I got them.
Next on the list: lemon cake and macarons

My gf got my surprise 30^th bday cake here. And now I’m returning to get their surprise custom 30^th cake too. It’s gorgeous!!!
The store is a front is a cake shop (front display) with next door snow shop with staff to answer questions and pick up orders.
I found meter parking on the street. Very nice staff. Cakes taste delicious! Very rich cakes. They specialize in wedding cakes too and cupcakes, macaroons etc

Way overrated. Been meaning to write this review for a cake she made for me a while back, but never got around to it until now. Service was pathetic, she wasn’t even there when I was placing the order so I could talk to her about it. The day came to pick up the cake, she basically just made a square cake, used a decoration that her assistant told ME to bring (it was a wooden decoration that she put RIGHT on top of the cream… who does that??? wood on cream?!). Ruined my decoration. On to the cake. HORRIBLE. Too sweet, cream too heavy, tasted like cake mix from the dollar store. Nobody cared for it at my event and it ended up going in the trash couple days later. Very bad experience, waste of $ 80. Save your money and go somewhere where they can actually make a beautiful, tasty cake.

Truly terrible experience. I ordered cupcakes in store for a bridal shower to pick up a few days later. It was a small order and they made no fuss about the 48 hour turnaround time. I prepaid and confirmed the date and time for pickup and even saw the gentleman write the order down.
On the day I was supposed to pick them up, I came into the store and when someone from the back finally came out to assist me, she said she had no idea what I was talking about. After calling her manager twice, it turned out that they just completely forgot and misplaced my order.
They asked if I was in a rush (yes!) and said they could have my order ready in an hour, to write down my address for delivery, and they’d call me within the hour.
An hour goes by and no one calls, so I call the number listed on their website and the voicemail says they are closed that day. They clearly were not, as I’d just talked to someone in the store.
Finally someone calls me back, says they cannot deliver after all, cannot provide any discount for the inconvenience since I prepaid (oh but I’m offered a free coffee drink at 8pm on a weeknight — nope!) and they will have the cupcakes ready in another hour.
I head back to the store and am greeted with attitude. I get the cupcakes and head back to my car. Then, to top it all off, when I get home and open the box, half of them are toppled over and ruined already due to improper packing.
I store them in the fridge with the box wrapped in plastic as they told me to do; the next morning, several cupcakes are stuck together and the frosting is hard — after I followed their specific instruction for overnight storage.
DO NOT go here! Luckily this was a small shower and I was able to make due; but can you imagine this kind of service for a large party or wedding?

Ordered a cake over the phone for a baby shower with ease. Great communication & the end result of the design was perfect. It really made a splash & impressed guests.

So let’s start of w the fact that I hate sweets! So keep in mind that it’s hard for me to review cupcake bakery! Lol
Anyways w that said. Let’s see yes the parking in there new location is impossible to park. They really should have considered that but however good things are worth waiting for!
I used to come to this place back at its last location which was much more convinient for me but since I am completely addicted to their red velvet cupcakes! I can’t help it but follow them to the new location and struggle w the parking just so I can get a taste of that cupcake!!!
Yes it’s that good!
They basically converted me from a person who doesn’t drink coffee or eat sweets to I must have it!
Who knew coffee can have such an effect on me?

Rumy did our wedding cake and we’re overall satisfied with the result. I found her on Unilocal while browsing through bakeries in the Sherman Oaks area. We had a wedding planner and she usually have her preferred vendor list but I wanted to try cakes by rumy because I was impressed with her pedigree and she was also a foodnetwork winner and that made me even more curious. So we booked a tasting with her and I took a few inspirations pics to show her what I want for our cake. I think we only got to pick like 5 flavors (cupcake style) and I kind of want to taste everything. The cupcakes were ok kind of stale but what amazed us was that it was totally different on our wedding day. The cake was moist and the lemon and hazelnut had this chilled firm texture that tasted amazingly good! It was a hit with everyone and they’re all raving about our cake. I highly recommend this shop to all of my friends and I will def will be returning for more.
A couple of things that could’ve improved.
–The color on the sugary flowers were a little off enough for us to notice it.

I ordered a cake for my best friend’s birthday party and it was a WINNER! It was simply beautiful and classy, just how I wanted it. The entire outside of the cake was made up of roses that were made with butter crème frosting and dusted with gold shimmer powder. The inside was a moist vanilla cake with layers of yummy vanilla custard and mixed berries.
I loved that I was able to pick up the cake later, actually around 8:30 pm. They have a little café next door (that’s open until midnight) where they stored it. Everyone there is friendly and super helpful. I really appreciate everything about this place and I will be a return customer!!!

Jessica Alba gets her cakes from here, end of review! So the wife of one of my good friends from high school opened this place a couple years ago after she won a season of «Cake Boss» or some Food Channel show.

It shares a location with NY Bagel Bistro (owned by Rumy’s husband) with it being a bagel café and a cakery in the back. It’s small and quaint and the CbRumy portion serves cupcakes, cake pops and other bakery items daily.

PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE — This cupcake is amazeeng. The pinnacle of cupcake orgasms. It has a peanut butter frosting with mini chocolate balls inside and the cupcake is a dark chocolate base. (⁵⁄₅)
CHOCOLATE VANILLA BEAN — A chocolate cake base, vanilla bean frosting with some sprinkles atop. It was really good. (⁴⁄₅)
BANANA CHOCOLATE CHIP — Nice banana flavored cupcake, not over powering in terms of flavor. White cream atop with chocolate chips, it’s pretty good. (³⁄₅)
BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE — No real thoughts because I don’t like bittersweet chocolate at all and it wasn’t for me. (N/​A)

Honestly I’ve never ordered an actual cake. I’ve tried about 5 or 6 different mini-​cupcakes and they were pretty good. I found out Jessica Alba has came here before and ordered from Rumy/​Rumanear in the past before so just like Ms. Sin City, I recommend this place!

RUMY WINNING FOOD NETWORK CHALLENGE:

Rumy came through again with another perfect cake. The entire process was just as simple and painless as I remembered it. All I had to do was email her what I wanted (flavor, design, etc), tell her what day/​time I needed it by, and she took care of the rest.
I gave her a couple of ideas and let her decide on what she felt would turn out best, and she did not disappoint. My wife loved the design, and everyone loved the taste. There wasn’t a single crumb of it left within ten minutes of serving it. And, again, she had the cake ready on time, which is a huge plus. I am a stickler for punctuality, especially when it comes to things like this.
Rumy is a master at what she does, and is professional and courteous while doing it. I cannot find a single thing wrong with her service or products. There has to be at least twenty cake places that are closer to my house than her store, but she is worth the drive. I highly recommend her for your custom cake needs, and plan to be a regular of hers until she gets too famous and relocates.

If you’re a cake conasseur then you will be pleased with Cakes by Rumy. You get what you pay for.
I firmly believe anyone displeased with anything from here just has low budget taste. I suggest you people stick to overly sugary grocery store cakes.
I in particular have searched high and low for a real buttercream frosting for years. Rumy makes it. The kind you find on wedding cakes… A frosting that is so rich you can and should only eat a sliver. Real butter.
I got a chocolate layer birthday cake covered in buttercream roses and it is literally one of the best cakes I’ve had in my life. Since my birthday a few days ago, I spend all day paying visits to the fridge.
Worth every penny.

I was actually looking for SnowPiffs to get shaved snow but it turns out that SnowPiffs is located inside Cakes by Rumy. They have a small parking lot so it’s a total pain to find parking.
We went fairly late at night so there wasn’t a whole lot of options left. I ended up getting the chocolate truffle cake pop and the strawberry and cream cake pop. Both were amazingly delicious. The cakes were so moist and flavorful even though I ate both the next day.
They actually do cupcakes and custom cakes by order. They have some faux cakes on display so I’m sure you can place an order. They were on Cupcake Wars on Food Network and won according to the photo and story next to the register.

Love love love this bakery! I come here for all my special occasion cake needs. I basically tell Rumy what kind of design I want and in what flavor and she delivers every time. Not only is she such a professional, but she’s friendly as well. She will accommodate your budget and make you the most extraordinary cake.
I’m the one who posted a picture of my dad’s Macbook cake. It turned out so well. So many people were taking pictures of it and were so impressed by the details. One of my relatives at the party asked me to have Rumy make a cake for her husband’s surprise birthday in May. Everyone loved the taste of the mango filling. It completely took them back to the Philippines.
She also makes incredible macarons, cupcakes and lollicakes. I bought 50 lollicakes for my coworkers for Christmas last year and they loved it.
I referred her to one of my friends for his wedding cake and dessert bar. He’s a professional chef so you can imagine that he only wants the best and Rumy’s it!
I’ll be coming back time and time again.
