The Buford Corn Maze

We were there around mid October. The parking lot and the corn maze were extremely dusty. We got lost in the corn maze so that was fun.

I went on a Sunday. I arrived at 10 right when they opened with my 2 year old. We met up with 3 of my mommy friends and their 2 year olds. The first thing we did was walk down to the animal pen. There were potbelly pigs, goats, chickens and ponies (you can’t feed them and riding the pony is an extra $ 5). The first hay ride didn’t start until 11 so we played on the swing set and bouncy castle until then. One of the kids loved climbing on the tractor. The hay ride was cool for my 2 year old and the other kids but not very interesting for the adults. Then we headed back to the bouncy castle, corn pit, swing set and air bounce. My daughter loved the swing set (seriously, I could have taken her to the park down the street). I loved the air bounce. Adults and children can bounce. It was so much fun! It can be a little dangerous for little kids who could get bounced all over the place if you aren’t holding onto them. Someone was painting faces for free near the swing set and there is a mini maze for kids. The freshly made kettle corn was delicious and I got a big bag for $ 6 along with freshly squeezed lemon juice for $ 2. They have a small snack bar where you can buy hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches (delish!), chips and drinks. They also sell boiled peanuts, caramel apples and pumpkins.
I didn’t try out the maze or the haunted forest. The place isn’t big but that’s what I liked about it. I have a 2 year old and don’t want to have to lug her or walk her long distances. There are porta potties everywhere too. She is potty trained so we needed those. We stayed until around 2pm and the time flew by. Overall I spent $ 15 to get in and $ 14 on food (hot dog, grilled cheese sandwich, popcorn and lemonade) for me and my daughter. You can bring your own food if you want. They have picnic tables to eat at in a covered area. It was a lot of fun and interesting for my baby girl. I would definitely go back.

This place is seriously lacking in almost every aspect.
No petting zoo.
No pig races.
No apple cider donuts.
No mechanical pumpkin eating dinosaur.
A corn box no bigger than my bathtub.
You can’t feed the farm animals.
For 15 bucks a person, the owners need to talk a trip up north and see what a real autumn pumpkin patch /​maze should be. They’ve got a ton of unused land here. Do something with it.
Will not be going back.

It’s a big corn maze but everything else is small. The corn pit is mini, the petting farm is mini.
The biggest problem and why we’ll never be back is they put the haunted forest right next to the corn maze. So, as we go through it with out 6 year old he leaves scared because of all the screaming, chainsaws, etc. Even the hay ride goes by it, just not what I wanted my young kids exposed to.

This corn maze is good in theory but they do not give you information at the gate or a map. Once you enter the staff is not helpful and there does not seem to be an information booth. They stated online they have live music on Fridays but no one was performing.
Once in the maze some people had maps and some did not. We never were here before so we did not know to ask for one. The staff in the maze were not trained and were just as lost as we were. The female staff member we asked to help got us lost after 5 minutes of wandering around with her map turned all directions. She asked me to read the map for her and then had me get help from a 10 year old who stated she knew how to get out.
If the staff were better trained and informative it could be a good experience. Hopefully it is just a bad start to the season and it will get better.

I find myself becoming that curmudgeonly older guy who hates what everything costs these days.
Inflation will always be a part of a progressive economy, but it seems as though prices have jumped exponentially over the past decade. Simple foods such as hamburgers have increased dramatically. I spent over $ 14 a few weeks ago at Five Guys for a double cheeseburger, fries and a drink. The new burger boutiques are right around $ 12 for just fries and a double burger (no drink) and some places in town charge $ 30 for a burger… a BURGER! (Almost made me cuss just thinking about it!)

Ordering a soda while out to eat cost as much as a happy meal did when I was a kid. Some places charge $ 2.99 or more. Don’t even get me started on gas prices, youth sports leagues and people who expect a tip for a take out order. Seriously? You handed me a bag of food and maybe gave me a smile and I must now tip for that?
So to come to a corn maze and pay $ 14 per person ($ 1 more than 2013) no matter the age, is… well, preposterous! Or pay $ 22 per person and you can also walk their haunted forest which means a family of four will pay $ 88 for two or three hours of fun running through a field of corn. *Scratch that… the rules clearly state «no running.”*
THE EXPERIENCE
The goal of the maze is to find 6 stations w/​clues throughout the maze. A nearly impossible task unless you pick up the map available at the maze entrance or scan the QR codes @ each station to receive a text for directions to the next station. I must admit that’s pretty cool. I thought the trail was designed well to get the most out of the corn field.
Once you’ve complete the maze you can take a 20 minute hay ride included in the cost of admission. Or you can check out the pumpkin patch, pet a few of the animals, take a pony ride (additional cost) or have fun in the corn box. Seriously, I had no idea corn was so comfortable to lay on. We buried ourselves in corn and had more fun here than in the maze! We were picking corn out of odd places for days… LOL
The Haunted Forest was fun and particularly scary at night if you have a phobia for clowns and chain saws. One of the kids in our group LITERALLY ran right out of his left shoe when the hockey-​masked chainsaw guy and the creepy clown guy gave chase! Ran completely out of his shoe I say! Bwaaaahahaha! It was hilarious.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall we had fun, but then again our group would’ve had fun anywhere. I firmly believe this corn maze is too expensive! BUT, it is a quality experience. I hear tell they have bouncy houses for the kids during the day (we came at night), live entertainment on the weekends and karaōke on Friday nights. There is also a concessions area with boiled peanuts, candy, hot dogs, drinks and other goodies for sale. I would highly recommend you pick up a bag of home-​made deep fried BBQ flavored pork skins. They are thee best I’ve ever had!
Buford Corn Maze is a lovely (and pricey) family experience that only happens late October through mid November. So don’t try coming here in the Spring or Summer months because there will be nothing here. However, they do have Christmas trees for sale after Thanksgiving :-)
I was torn over giving them 5 stars for the family friendly fun or 3 stars for the exorbitant touristy prices. I chose 4 stars because it really is a lot of fun for the kids. But if they raise the price again next year, they can definitely count on our family not returning. There are plenty of places that offer FREE fall activities and many have just about everything offered here except the corn maze.

This place was pretty alright. Unsure why the reviews make it appear to be worse. I mean. When I arrived, the massive crowd deterred me since I was afraid they were going to be a spoiler for the corn maze and haunted forest. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
The lay of the place has many areas. There was a small selection of pumpkins already pre-​picked. There was a concession stand selling apple cider, hot chocolate, and the typical fall drinks. There was also a corn store (?) in the area as well. There were some areas for pictures (hay patches, a tractor, funny character faces where you poke your head through a wooden board).
The prices for the corn maze + hay ride was $ 14. The price was the same if you wanted to do the haunted forest + hayride. I would highly recommend the combo package since the haunted forest lasts about 10 minutes. The price for the combo package was $ 22.
The corn maze took about an hour if you try to find all 6 clues. The thing was that each clue post has a clue. You have to string the answer together to create a phrase that you provide when you exit the maze. Post #5 sucked. Let me just say that since we were about to give up. Oh. And there are two lookout posts (in case you get lost and need assistance – or to supervise) so don’t get confused if you’re using that as a landmark. At one point, our group literally made a circle around one of these posts. The employee was like, «I was going to tell you, but that would not have been fun.» :\
The haunted forest’s line was about 30 minutes of wait time (?). I don’t remember exactly the duration, but I know the wait time was longer than the actual forest. You are literally led through the beginning parts of the forest, and it lasts about 10 minutes. This wasn’t scary as I’ve built an immunity to these «haunted» houses, or forest in this case. Lol. I mean. I did get startled and screamed, but I don’t get frightened anymore. At a few parts I was laughing. Now doesn’t that say much… For a small establishment like this, the haunted forest was unique and different. It was super scary so don’t count on that, but decent enough. The ending was unique, but then again, haunted house goers can already guess…
The hayride was pretty neat since they take you through the forest. There’s a lover’s area or something like that where the tree branches made an arch. The guide even turned off the lights for a few minutes for privacy. Lol! The majority of the ride was through the forest, and so it was pitch dark. A pretty interesting ride. I suppose the vibe would be different during broad day light.
Overall, this place is pretty cool and okay. Parking sucked. Let me just say that. I was lucky to have found a spot right in the main area as I pulled in, but most folks parked along the side or had to drive to the back of the place to park alongside the trees.

Absolutely a total rip off. They want to charge $ 10 a head to not even DO anything, then charge another $ 22 a head to do the corn maze, haunted forest and hayride. Someone needs to tell them they’re not Six Flags. Not paying over $ 100 for my famiky to ride on the back of a tractor and walk through corn. Pass. Save your cash and go someplace else like Corn Dawgs or Jaemor which is drastically less and much more fun.

My husband and I took my parents out for a fall night of fun. Lots of fun! Loved the corn maze/​hayride and caramel apples!

This is the third corn maze that I’ve checked out. It was really close to my church, and I wanted to take the youth group (6 kids). I had driven past it several times and my husband I kept thinking that corn would only come up to our shoulders. The kids didn’t want to drive any further, and this was really ideal for Friday night– so, we ventured out.
I was pleasantly surprised that the corn was at least above eye level for 90% of the maze and even had a couple of small sections that were about a foot taller than me (I’m 5’7″). You couldn’t see over the corn to know which way to go or anything– and it was comfortable for someone who was supervising several 13 year olds.
This is also THE CORN MAZE to go to if you have never been in one and you are scared you may feel claustrophobic in a corn maze.
It took about an hour to go through the whole thing. The kids really enjoyed it. Half of the kids wanted to go into the haunted forest. There wasn’t much of a line and the haunted section only took about 15 minutes. That was nice as I was entertaining two others while the kiddos went through that with my husband. They enjoyed it– talked about it quite a bit. Some were scared, and some weren’t.
Drinks were reasonable. I think it was $ 1 for a water, sports drink, or hot chocolate. The sports drink may have been a couple of bucks, but for a place like this I thought that anything under $ 3 was reasonable.
We also went on the hay ride. We didn’t have to wait very long, as this corn maze wasn’t very crowded. It was a nice set-​up, and we went back through the woods (not the scary part).
We had a very pleasant experience. Great for a group or a first timer in particular.

If you’ve never seen corn you’re in for a treat, but if you’ve ever been to a corn maze this one was a major disappointment. I could see every landmark and my family members over the too short corn. My grandmother laughed for about 20 minutes when she saw it. Skip it!
