I was so impressed that this is a chalet dealer that I drove the hour+ to have my chalet trailer serviced here. On the dropoff the staff were very courteous and helpful. I requested to be notified if the cost would exceed $ 500. I was told it would take a week to have the minor repairs completed. Three weeks later and $ 750.(without being asked if I would authorize the extra expense) I was informed I could pick up my trailer. The first reason I was given for the delay was that they had many«urgent» repairs, the second was that their sales department was very busy. When my husband went to pick it up, he said all the courtesy and helpfulness went out the window. He paid and left quickly. We will not again go out of our way for this service shop.

It’s been a pleasure to work with Southland RV. I worked with Brett and really enjoyed getting to know him and going over all of his RV’s. They have a great selection of Travel Trailers!

Wow. So, I’ve really had to re-think my position on pretty much every point about these folks. I took the Hugh Laurie in to have the generator repaired; it has an oil leak, and I don’t have the tools to pull it out of the rig. I checked with them to be sure they fixed Onan generators, before taking it in, and they assured me they did. Long story short, they kept the rig for over a month, charged me over $ 1000, and sent it back home with the exact same problem it went in with. A generator shop would do a total generator rebuild for $ 1000-$ 1600, and have it in and out in a week. So, basically, they held my rig hostage for a month and charged me $ 1000 ransom to get it back. Here’s the thing, I understand that sometimes problems show up during the repair process. Maybe it looks like a simple gasket replacement, and then you find out it needs more work than that when you pull it apart. Had they called me a week into the process, and said, «You’re gonna need a new oil ring. It’s gonna take an extra few days, and cost another $ 700.» No big deal. You do what you gotta do. Once the generator is out of the rig, you might as well finish the job. But, what I got was radio silence for weeks. I kept calling, hearing, «The part will be here Monday.»(Which I heard three times, for three consecutive Mondays.) Or, «The part’s here, but I can’t start on it until later in the week.» or «I’m going to the races this weekend, so it’ll be next week before I can get to it.»(When I heard this one, they’d already had the rig for a month.) They gave up on fixing it after a little over a month of me calling every few days to see how things were coming. I’d planned to sell the rig, and buy a bus conversion… but, it’s impossible to sell a rig that in the shop and unable to be easily shown or test drove. So, having it in the shop for over a month really messed up my plans. In short, these folks just don’t have the in-house ability to repair generators. They did the other work I asked them to do(chassis AC, and fixing a rattling from the exhaust system), for a fair price and it seems to have been done correctly, which gets them one star over the one star I’m tempted to give them for the awful generator experience. So, if you need basic RV maintenance, they’re alright. I had a good experience in the past, and I think the work they did on the other two tasks I took the rig in for was done well, done promptly, and for a fair price. But, don’t bother taking your generator to them. They won’t have the parts, won’t be able to get them in a reasonable time, won’t know what to do with them when they get them, and probably won’t be able to fix anything beyond basic maintenance, and they’ll take an astonishingly long time, and charge the high end of market rates for the work(RV repair shops are more expensive than many other kinds of shop; which is fine, but I wish I’d take it to a generator shop, who would have charged similar rates and actually fixed the problem). Now, I have to take it to a generator shop when I get to Texas. I’m not only not better off than when I took it into the shop, I’m much worse off, because I’m over a month off schedule and more than $ 1000 poorer. I also wouldn’t take them any engine repair work, since I don’t see how it’d be likely they’d be any better at fixing big engines than small ones.
