King Condrell’s Candy & Ice Cream

This place is absolutely the best hidden secret of all of our great city buffalo ny I have been coming here since 1986 and the place still looks and tastes the same and that’s a good thing! You instantly become incelen depended the moment you step inside! Price customer service and options are all amazing the toppings are anything you could imagine on your sundae from Oreos to fishsticks they have it all! And this place is easy on the wallet as it is on the eyes as well do your self a favor and bring yourself here you will not be.disappointed.

Been going here since I can remember. Great ice cream offerings. My favorite is the hot fudge sundae with coffee ice cream and whipped cream in a bowl.
Don’t leave without getting some meltaway fudge from the candy section. It is amazing. It is the recipe from Drescher’s for those that remember that ice cream parlor/​candy store on Fillmore. The owner here has kept that special treat going.

So I’ve heard and read a lot of reviews about this place, and when I went there with my husband, I really wanted us to be friends too. we were kind of in a rush, plus the place was pretty busy with just a few empty table scattered around., So we each got a Sundae to go. The girls behind the counter are super nice, very friendly, and we’re very helpful since this was her first time. However I noticed that as they were making our desserts they were pulling out she Tupperware from a deep freezer that was filled to the brim with the toppings. This leads me to believe they must miss produce the toppings beforehand. Because of this, you really don’t know how fresh the toppings are. When they were finished, they put them in large Styrofoam cups which was pretty cool. By the time we got home, which is about a five-​10 minute drive, everything was still frozen and we were ready to experience King Condrells. Expected the toppings didn’t see 100% fresh, everything was acceptable. There was a decent out of ice cream and a decent amount of toppings. We will probably go back, but we Won’t be expecting five star ice cream. The next time we will know what we’re paying for.

Came here on my birthday with hopes of defeating the «Brain Freeze» Challenge (10 scoops of ice cream, toppings, etc). I placed my order only to be told a few minutes later that I could not order it because the place was closing in 45 minutes and that they wouldn’t let me try the challenge because of that. I told the waitress that I would know if I could finish it within the first 25 minutes but then she said it would be too much work to clean it (inconsistent reasons).
In the end, I ended up getting a regular sundae for my birthday, which was quite delicious but a let down because I had been preparing myself for the Brain Freeze. I guess I will have to come back in the future.
Note, definitely join their rewards program. They give you a free sundae for your birthday.

Love the pistachio ice cream and their chocolate caramel covered pretzels! Found their sponge candy to be surprisingly average. It stays open pretty late which is great for the late night sweet tooth.

Love this ice cream shop, I wish I would have known about it before! So many selections it’s hard to choose a sundae. I got cottons caramel crunch. I was so good, the roasted cashews were perfect on this sundae.

Stopped here for dessert after dinner on part two of our date night. Our date had raved about the huge portions and delicious combinations. We seated ourselves and waited a while for some menus and wow way too many options. We placed an order and it took forever to come out… The girl waitressing was about 16 and seemed very out of it. She brought the first ice cream of our order and it was wrong so we sent it back. The rest of our desserts came out about five minutes after another. Now the ice cream wasn’t anything special to wait so long for and spend $ 7 on each two scoop sundae. Eh, a Unilocal Kinda Yum.

Condrell’s is known throughout Kenmore as the old school ice cream shop. Pick your seat, be offered a teeny tiny glass of water, and be given a HUGE menu of all sorts of deliciousness. Condrell’s has a ton of sundae options and you can also create your own. They are very willing to customize your order. They offer «queen» and «king» sizes. Queen is 1 scoop and King is 2. Queen is definitely enough though especially if you get all the toppings. It hasn’t been updated in a VERY long time and, frankly, it doesn’t need to ever change.

I’ve heard people rave about the ice cream here, and I finally got the chance to try it this weekend since it was the only ice cream place we could find that was opened past 10pm. I am certainly glad that this is where we were lead to.
You can order at the counter or they have table service, so we sat down so that we could take a good look at the menu. Wow, I didn’t expect the list to be so extensive. I knew I wanted a sundae, but there were so so many to choose from. I decided on the queen size turtle sundae. Vanilla ice cream, caramel, homemade hot fudge and chopped pecans. It was absolutely delicious and the one scoop sundae was the perfect size.
Not sure if I should be happy that I finally tried this place or sad because there goes my summer waistline, I will definitely be back!

My mom grew up in the Kenmore/​Tonawanda area and she always talked about this place. I’m sure she took me here as a kid.
Ever since I moved into this area 2 years ago I have been wanting to check this place out.
Well, today was the day! I had a bad day and my fiancé wanted to surprise me with a little date night. I was super excited when he pulled up to this place.
When you walk in you kind of feel like your going back in time, but in a good way. To the right is all the delicious fudge and chocolate. Amazing. To the left are tables and the ice cream! You walk in, pick a table you like and sit down. Someone comes over to give you the biggest menu of treats I’ve ever seen. They kindly bring you water to go with your ice cream.
Now the actual ice cream, amazing! I got the peanut butter banana sundae. It was vanilla ice cream piled high with peanut butter sauce, peanuts butter pieces of some sort, bananas and home made whipped cream. It was just sugary and amazing. My fiancé had something similar but instead of bananas, he has small brownie pieces.
The service was amazing, everyone was so kind. I highly suggest checking this place out!
I will certainly be back!

Nothing to complain about here at all — a good friend of mine and I often grab «dinner» here after bad days at work — something about a cinnamon sundae with homemade hot fudge and pecans just washes all those workday worries away! The menu is chock full of different sundae choices and specialty coffees and frozen drinks. I like to make my own sundae creation which they allow, too… They’ll basically make whatever you want!
I’ve purchased chocolates and candies here as gifts and have heard nothing but rave reviews. In addition to chocolate, they also have a fair number of varieties of prepackaged candies as well as a rather large loose tea section.
They also have a newer rewards program too — I’m halfway to my reward of a pound of melt away fudge. Guess I’m gonna have to keep stopping in for «dinner» to rack up some more points!

Here for the week from Massachusetts. Stopped in for some desert with the kids after supper. Everything was great. The service was quick and the menu was great. The kids all liked what they got. A must visit if you are here from out of town. We will definitely stop by next time we are in town.

I used to live in Buffalo and it is one of the places I *always* visit when I am up there and have friends send me food from on occasion.
It is a cute shop and though I have enjoyed teas and such I never had the ice cream, but what I can tell you…
is that the candy is *the best*. Their sponge candy is wonderful, great flavors, such cute boxes, and I’ll put them up against anymore. I love their various chocolate goodies, but my favorites are the «marshmallow sticks” — a marshmallow covered in chocolate, colored sprinkles, on a stick, wrapped in plastic, and waiting for you :)

Amazing ice cream. Love the homemade whipped cream! Such a treat to go here :) Also great milkshakes, candy, etc. In a perfect world I could go to Condrell’s everyday and never gain any weight ! :p

Condrell’s is my favorite place to go for sundaes in Buffalo! I have never been anything less than thrilled with their ice cream or chocolate.
You can either order and pay at the counter or sit at a booth or table and get waited on. Their menu is quite extensive, for an ice cream parlor. They offer about 30 flavors of ice cream. They always have seasonal selections as well. They also have a very impressive menu of sundae toppings and every sauce you could ever think of.
The menu has a great variety of suggested sundae combinations. You can also choose to build your own. My favorite sundae is the «Sponge Candy Sundae,» which is two scoops of vanilla ice cream, sponge candy pieces, hot fudge and their homemade whipped cream. It is divine! This is the only ice cream place (that I’m aware of) that offers sponge candy pieces as a sundae topping. They are SO GOOD! Tip: Their hot fudge is okay, but their warm french chocolate sauce is much better! I would definitely recommend that substitution.
In addition to the ice cream options, the other half of the store is a chocolate/​candy shop. They make all of their chocolate at Condrell’s. It’s a great place to go to purchase gifts! They are happy to gift wrap your purchase for you.
The walls of Condrell’s are covered with classic advertisements and pictures of candy. It’s a really adorable place to bring friends or family!

This spot is SUPER CUTE. Located on the Hertel strip of stores is this really old fashioned candy store with some really top notch ice cream!
After reading the rave reviews of other Unilocalers, I decided to check out this spot to grab some ice cream on the go. I opted for 2 scoops since it was only about 60 cents more than one scoop ($ 3.85) total. I asked for it in a cup since I was on the go. Here i was thinking im going to get a tiny little cup of ice cream, but Man i was So wrong! They filled up a huge coffee cup (about 16 oz size) with way more than 2 small scoops.
I opted for the mocha cookie dough, and butter pecan. The mocha cookie dough was beyond amazing, chocolatey with a hint of coffee and chunks of cookie dough. It was heavenly without being overly chocolately. The texture was also very creamy and satisfying. I was slightly dissapointed with the butter pecan, as It was not as rich, and lacked the «buttery caramely» flavor of butter pecan.
I can’t wait to return and try their enormous sundaes! Great ice cream, amazing portions and a spot that preserved its old fashioned authenticity– whats not to love?!

Wonderful… had great sundaes, happy server, we had great ice cream and a good time. The best shop in Kenmore. I will keep coming back, and again and again.

What an amazing place! Despite living in Kenmore for years, we didn’t realize Condrell’s also had ice cream; we thought they were just candy.
We’ve been in for ice cream ever since. The prices cannot be beaten and there is such a variety — — a full menu of ice cream! Don’t be fooled, one scoop is HUGE! It’s great to sit in the old style ice cream parlor, which feels like yesteryear. The staff are incredibly friendly and the variety of candy and chocolates are diverse and delicious!
We used to go to Anderson’s for ice cream, which is also good, but we’ve found our new ice cream place at Condrell’s. We will be sure to stock up on chocolates for the upcoming holidays. We were sure to get an assorted batch of their sponge candy. You can taste the quality!

After hearing great things about Condrell’s, I was so excited to try it. Unfortunately, it was a pretty big let down. Although the selection looks amazing and they do have some pretty awesome sugar cones on display, I decided to go with a classic hot fudge sundae. The hot fudge was just not good. I don’t know if it was sort of old or what, and it was definitely not hot. The actual ice cream itself good, but just average. I usually try to support local business and avoid chains, but in this case, I think I’ll stick with dairy queen :-(

This is a really cute place! They a HUUUUUGEEEE selection of chocolates and ice cream. The ice cream menu is slightly overwhelming at first but the selections are good. When I visited I opted for a milkshake and a coffee, and it was good! They use real cream here, no joke.
Their selection of teas was nice, especially giving the option to sniff before you purchase so you have a better idea of what you’re buying.
The décor is slightly dated but I don’t mind it. There is a ton of seating and they have evening hours, which is good for groups and families. Service is friendly and prompt.
Parking is easy in this area, which is nice since with other candy places you really have to hunt to find a spot!

If Snoop dog ever swindled Dr. Dre and LL Cool J, would that be known as «King Con Dre & LL? If so, then we know how this place really got its name, rather than what my original review said.
Edit: having taken all things into consideration, it’s honestly more of a 3 than a 4.
Since I went here the first time, I’ve been back and tried a muy delicioso milkoshako, and as sure as the day is long and the sunset is an off-​pink magenta-​y color, I liked it. But I didn’t adore it… it was huge, and slightly north of $ 5, but wasn’t anywhere near the best shake I’ve had in town. Very sweetl. The ice cream here is good but not my fave. And the sponge candy is far from my fave. So although it’s a high 3, Condrell’s stays as a 3.
Original review:
The name of this place is actually based on a Mexican fantasy movie. The movie was about an imaginary meeting of the great Martin Luther King and the infamous Dr. Dre, 200 years in the future. Directed by Ridley Scott of course. The movie was in Spanish and was called «King Con Dre» which means King with Dre. It wa so successful that they released a sequel (King Con Dre II), and opened an ice cream shop to promote the sequel (King-Con-Dre-II’s). However the translation was messed up and the hyphens were removed, so the name of the place is King Condrell’s. Nobody realizes that the «L“s are actually the roman numeral 2.
A lot of people say this is the best ice cream and best sponge candy in the region. I disagree. Alethea’s sponge candy is by far the best I have ever tasted, and Antoinette’s ice cream is one of the most amazing parlors I’ve ever been to, and everything about their ice cream is perfection. But King Condrell’s is definitely good, it’s not amazing, although a lot of people think it is… but it is good.
I went there on a hot summer’s day and was annoyed that Unilocal wouldn’t let me check in (easy, tiger!) because I had been to so many places in a short space of time. The girl behind the counter was super nice (and super cute) and let me try three different ice creams before making my choice. Really, really good customer service.
I tried coffee (which was good, but not amazing), salted caramel (which was amazing), and chocolate (which was also amazing). I couldn’t choose between the last two, but I went with chocolate. The small is HUGE. That’s not actually a good thing… I started feeling ice-​cream-​full after eating half of it, and then had to throw the rest away :(But if you like enormous portions, you’ll be happy with this.
I think one of the reasons people love this place is the massive variety they have — enormous menus with enormous amounts of choices of teas, hot drinks, cold drinks, milk drinks, ice cream drinks, candies, ice creams, and things like floats and sundaes and the like. Definitely an amazing selection, and a really lovely little place with a really cute exterior and interior.
The sponge candy (which they are famous for) is the make or break item. With two such good ice cream choices (although I have to say the chocolate chips in the chocolate ice cream were not over the top good), then it all came down to how good the SC tasted. And I have to say, it was one of my least fave sponge candies. It didn’t taste quite as fresh as I’d hope… the chocolate was kind of bland compared to Antoinette’s and nowhere near the standard of Alethea’s. It was closer to Tops or Wegmans bulk sponge candy than the refined deliciousness of Alethea’s.
So all in all I give it a 4, although next time I swing by I am going to probably get a scoop of the salted caramel ice cream, because the sample was so good.
