Chris’ NY Sandwich Co

Chris’s is an unbelievable lunch spot. I have other places I like to eat lunch (The Filling Station, Amy’s, Globe, etc.) but this place is just a great, NYC-​style, soup-​and-​sandwich type of place.
Luckily, I work close-​by so I can make it there, dine, and back in less than an hour. Beware, it does get very, very busy sometimes. Take out is a quicker, albeit less enjoyable, option.
The first time I visited, I got a garden salad with a scoop of egg salad on top and basil-​lemon vinaigrette. I swear that dressing might be the best I’ve ever had. The egg salad, which is not normally my favorite but someone recommended, was incredible. They make it with pieces of olives– delicious! On my second visit, I had a piece of panko crusted fried fish with a salad and that amazing dressing on top. This is part of a special on Fridays when they offer a fish sandwich, fish taco dish, or fish salad.
You must have lunch here at some point. The meals are big, so take it easy (especially if you have to go back and work the rest of the day) and then bring some home!

NEW DOWNTOWN LUNCH CHAMPION
I’m pleased to announce the crowing of a new lunch champion in the heart of downtown Buffalo: Chris’ NY Sandwich Co.
The menu here is massive and everything sounded like it was right up my alley. It was so hard for me to decide on one sandwich that I actually needed to defer decision to my waitress (whom was tremendous but I didn’t catch her name). She told me that since it was Friday, I should go for the fish taco, and she made the decision seem so obvious. She even gave me her word that my «mouth would be dancing».
I trusted my lunch order with my waitress like I would have trusted my life in her hands (naturally), but even still it was hard for me to not wonder if passing up the panko-​encrusted chicken avocado club, or the jerk turkey burger with roasted red peppers was the right choice. I didn’t wonder any more when that fish taco hit the table, and seemingly simultaneously, my tongue.
All the food here came at a slightly steeper price than average, but the portions served reflected the price point, and the deliciousness levels blew it all out of the water. Any way you slice it, I doubt I could have gone wrong at Chris’ if I tried. And a word to the wise, if you’d like to treat yourself to some of the best lunch fare in the city, stop in at Chris’ NY Sandwich Co. on your lunch break, but don’t forget to pack your mouth’s dancing shoes.

Ommggg! Can I 1^st start off by saying that??! My job ordered from here and I was just blown back at how great tasting the food was. I ordered the 8oz black angus steak filet sandwich with gorganzola wedge, Cajun onion straws, baby argula, and roasted garlic mayo which was perfection! 1^st off all they won me with the onion straws!!! My fav. A few people order the Reuben and one ordered the ‘Slaw-​wich” But everyone came to the same conclusion: this place is Amazing!

I recently came here for lunch with two others. It’s a busy place, but we were seated quickly and our waitress was very pleasant. She told us the specials for the day and left us with menus. And very large glasses of water, which were filled without asking all through the meal. Love that.
It’s a large menu, but I went with one of the specials. A chicken chipotle sandwich which I enjoyed. Came with some sort of pasta side that I found inedible. Next time id get the sweet potatoes fries which a companion had and shared with us. Those were great!
One companion had a sand which he has whenever he goes there, which is weekly he said. The other had a burger that looked good and was clearly enjoyed.
I don’t eat at delis often, but I’d happily return here if someone wanted to come. They even have a parking lot, which is very convenient.

I’m a New Yorker (NYC, that is…) and am always sceptical of any out-​of-​town claim to that moniker. But, it was a business luncheon and my hosts recommended this place. What a delight. It was a busy lunchtime crowd. Service was wonderful and welcoming and well-​versed on their selection, especially for our one mate that had gluten and other dietary issues. Food was terrific. Highly recommended.

So the food here really hits the spot. My favorite lunch spot in Buffalo by far. Salads here are so tasty and filling. The Goat cheese turkey burger is my favorite burger ever. Crunchy outside and super moist inside.
The cookies they make are worth every extra calorie
Why it’s 4 stars verses 5 is the service. There a few waitresses that work there that are amazing (I will wait for a good one) but a few who seem annoyed by waiting on us. That and I called to pick up an order and the person who took the order seemed like I was troubling them with taking my order. These not so great experiences make me not want to go but the food is worth the not so great service.

DELICIOUS food but subpar service. Hard to cram into a generic 1 hour lunch break so our office orders delivery or pick up often. Unfortunately, our orders have yet to come out correctly. Delivery usually takes about 1 ½−2 hours. We’ve been compensated with discounts but still a consistent problem. The plus side to this is that I generally enjoy whatever I end up with — but know this could be a huge problem for some picky eaters and its often disappointing. Not sure if we’ll give them another chance.

Edit: We were compensated with some beverages and cookies for a missing item in our order, however when the order arrived. the walnut and goat cheese salad was missing its walnuts and goat cheese.

OK, just first time here so this is based on one trip. A friend I was lunching with recommended, and it was a great call! Service was fine and pleasant, just a bit slow. However, the Jerked Turkey burger was possibly the best burger in Buffalo! Wow. Totally delicious, and the side pasta salad was excellent too. I’ll definitely be back to Chris’s to try some other things (or have another Jerked Turkey!)

I’ll start by saying the food is delicious. Unfortunately, the rest stinks! I have been coming to this place for almost 4 years religiously at least twice a week. There used to be a very friendly blonde girl behind the counter who must have been the only thing keeping that place together. In the last month, I went there three times and each time got worse. The first time, I went with a coworker to sit down. We waited 30 minutes for a drink, the service was horrible (and our waitress was non-​existent because she was apparently «backing up the kitchen») and it took over an hour to get any food. The next time, same thing, we actually ended up having to take our food to go because it took so long. I went back to get take-​out which I called in at 9:30 am for a 12 pm pickup. I work across the street and when I got there at 12:15, they hadn’t even made my meal. I waited for my Take out for 30 minutes when I had called 2 and a half hours early. They need to get that girl back or get some more staff in the kitchen. I’ll go back again sometime in the future to see if they have figured their issues out and will change my rating if it gets better, but until then I will find a new place to bring my business every week.

Chris’ is a fantastic lunch spot on the Allentown/​Downtown border. I have only eaten inside once, and it was toward the end of their business hours, but I have heard it can get crazy busy and to order ahead of time.
The split level dining room is large, and was fairly busy even toward the end of the lunch rush. The waitresses had that charming old «this is a fast diner» attitude. Some may find it off-​putting, but I sort like that feeling for my diners.
I had sort of assumed that they just had a few speciality sandwiches when I drove past the place, not realizing the extensiveness of the menu. They have every type of sandwich under the sun, and it all sounds very tasty! I got a grilled chicken flatbread with roasted red peppers and a sauce that I am forgetting. Oh, and the portions are HUGE!
Prices weren’t too bad either. I can’t wait to go back, because I had had such a hard time deciding what to get the first time, so I can’t wait to go back and try something else off their extensive menu. And by the way, I learned after the fact that their sweet potato fries are, apparently, amazing… who knew!

Everything here is HUGE, usually enough for a second meal later on. Only open from 11 – 2:30 so get here before noon, after that, you’re gonna wait or not get a table for a long time. The sandwich combos are endless with many types of breads and topping selections. The salads are huge and always fresh. Great servers also.

My co — workers ordered salads I ordered a turkey burger. The cost was $ 11.50 with tax and delivery. Nothing else cane with it. This is my fault because I didn’t check before ordering. The burger was not good and I am now nausea. I wasted all that money and now I’m sick. Never again. Also the service via the phone was poor also.

Great good but the service is terrible… Waited around 50 mins for our food no one came to apologize or update us on our food… Not refills on water… We finally had to leave. Not the first time we have waited forever for our food… Average is 30 – 40 mins… Not the place if your looking for a quick lunch

This place is great– I went with a bunch of people who all got sandwiches that they were very pleased with, and I got a giant delicious salad. Someone got some strawberry rhubarb (homemade) pie which was delicious. There’s an outdoor seating but it’s on a main road so that part is just ok. The staff is super-​nice– cute older very charming ladies. Fast service too.

Great restaurant! Have not had a bad meal yet!!! Love their sweet potato fries!!! I had the Panko chicken & strawberry salad. Really good! Quick service as well!!!

Reasons I Love Chris’:
(in no particular order)
1. Sweet potato fries with honey to dip in.
2. Fresh fruit (fresh strawberries or pineapple) can be a side.
3. All of their spreads are made in-​house daily (I recommend the garlic mayo) and leftovers are donated to the Buffalo City Mission.
4. There is a picture of Ice-​T on their iced tea dispenser.
5. The hot carved turkey sandwich.
They also cater and my office has them in for lunch from time-​to-​time. Huge salads, big mixed sandwich platters, and all of their fabulous spreads.
Only open for lunch and always busy.
Only four stars because the sandwiches are like $ 9 and you have to specifically ask if there is an upcharge to swap out sides… otherwise you get a surprise when you get the bill.

This is a BUSY place, packed with office workers around noon, but if you hold off until a little after 1pm, you can get seated quickly. As a VEGETARIAN, I usually opt for the egg and olive sandwich, which you can get on a variety of breads (all of which are perfectly soft and crusty – something you sadly don’t get at every sandwich shop). On the salad menu are a variety of other great veggie options that I would highly recommend. Naturally, there are lots of nice meat options with plenty of toppings choose from (fancy cheeses, slaw, a variety of mustards, greens, etc.).
Portions are extremely generous; when our sandwiches were dropped off this afternoon, the server cautioned, «Lift with your knees – that’s my only advice.» Indeed, the sandwiches tend to run into the almost-​too-​big-​to-​bite territory.
MY big advice if you stop in here is to shell out the $ 2.50 to upgrade from chips to sweet potato fries. They are far and away the best I have ever tasted. Crispy and salty with honey on the table for drizzling. I’ve never left one behind on my plate.

Best sandwiches in Western New York. Delicous! Why 4 instead of 5 stars? This place nickles and dimes you on drink refills and does not honestly disclose extra charges. «Would you like more Coke?» — Sure. Why not? «Fries or potato chips with that?» These questions, the way they’re worded, imply that these are included with the meal and refills are offered. Before you know it – bam. your bill is double what you were expecting. They should better explain this by saying «would you like to order fries with that for $ 2?» or otherwise disclose that this is extra. I don’t mind paying more. Just be honest about it.
In the end i’ll come back… the sandwiches are that good.

This is a great place, but it’s hours are limited. The sandwiches and salads are huge, however there are two key negatives: One, is the service, which is lackluster, and two, you get up-​charged on so many typical toppings.
First, the service. When the weather is nice, I tend to sit outside. I have been here a few times with colleagues. Each of those times, the waitress (we had the same one each time) tends to forget about us toward the end of the meal. Three times I tried to get her attention for the bill. Finally, my colleague, sick of waiting, went in to pay it. Come to find out, the credit card machine was down. That would’ve been nice to know when we sat down. Fortunately, we had cash.
Second, the menu offers a variety of sandwich and salad toppings. Sandwiches comes with several side options. What isn’t clear, particularly when the waitress offers them to you, is that most of them are extras or substitutions. When I got my bill, all these various add-​ons were there e.g., hot peppers, choice of bread, pasta salad, which was offered as a side unbeknownst to me was an extra. Now, granted, I wouldn’t have changed my choices had I known that from the get-​go and it didn’t break the bank, but that should be made clear to customers right from the start.
I like the food and because of that, will continue to go to Chris’. While sometimes the service could make or break my choice to return, the outdoor patio and my love for NY Style sandwiches keeps me coming back.

WOW! Those are some GREAT sandwiches! Huge, fresh, and made with wonderful ingredients. And the salads, while I’ve never had one (yet) look pretty amazing as well.
I have eaten at this gem of a sandwich shop many times and it’s ALWAYS been great. Today I went over there at lunch-​time to grab a to-​go order for myself and a whole bunch of my teacher friends. You see… it was «Superintendent’s Conference Day» in the Buffalo Schools today and that meant that we teacher-​type people ACTUALLY got to eat a lunch rather than scarfing down a yogurt in the usual 10 minutes allotted between bringing students to the cafeteria, retrieving messages from the office, putting items in students’ folders, and then picking the kiddos up again. WOO HOO! Such an occasion when we get to sit together and eat demands something SPECIAL. And this lunch was more than special. It was AMAZING!
Our «lunch bunch» had all sorts of things… a «Walnut Encrusted Goat Cheese Salad» (garnished with fresh raspberries, strawberries, and orange wedges, served over mesculin greens, tossed in our homemade creamy fresh raspberry vinaigrette), a few «Apples & Crumbly Bleu Cheese Salads» (mesculin greens with sliced apples, crumbly gorgonzola, toasted walnuts, sliced red onion, & tossed in our homemade creamy fresh raspberry vinaigrette dressing), a couple of REAL turkey sandwiches, an «Assorted Sandwich (turkey, ham, salami & provolone), and my SUPER YUMMY SANDWICH: the «Hawaiian Chicken Salad Sandwich» (chopped chicken breast, fresh pineapple, walnuts & mayo).
Everything looked delicious. Everything was HUGE. All of us oooohed and aaaaahed at each others choices. And then, as we ate, a strange hush fell over the classroom. Although we had planned to use this precious lunch break to catch up with each other… we were so enthralled with our food that we (almost) forgot to talk.
