Howard Johnson Buena Park/Near Knott’s Berry Farm

Stayed at this hotel for only one night and it was horrible. Check in was fast and easy. The people at the front desk were nice. The room was a nice size and that was the only nice thing about it. My room was facing an ally and could hear everything that happened in the ally. The beds were the worst beds I have ever sleep on. They were hard and lumpy. The only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast other then that I will stay at the knotts berry farm hotel when I’m in town going to Knotts berry farm.

This was some BS. The room was so old and dirty. We stayed because my kids were already sleeping. I booked through a 3^rd party so I already knew I wasn’t going to get the greatest room .but when I arrived I was told to take a room up front instead of the king suite I paid for. No way this shit he is worth the $ 130 they are charging me.

Pretty good! Nice breakfast in morning and free coffee. Could be a little more updated in room and bathroom but besides that nice.

I rented two rooms here. Shower was broke, microwave and fridge in both rooms were broke. When I told the front desk they really didnt care. You would think they would have offered a discount considering the fact that the room wasnt functional as promised. I was told they would tell maintenance for the next guest.
The continental breakfast was good and had a nice variety. The rooms were clean and there was no weird smells. This is basically one of those places where you get what you pay for. Dont let the Howard Johnson name fool you. Its really low budget. I dont think I will be returning here because I feel I should have gotten a discount for the shower not working.

It was a little noise. But it was very clean and we still got a good night sleep

We stayed one night– the front lobby was beautiful and clean; however we were quite disappointed when we got to the room– room dark, not well cleaned. Toilet paper and tissue was down to last ply. Towels were worn thin and stained. Killed an ear wig in the bathroom as well.
One of our two room cards didn’t work.
Disappointing.

Like the room but I have killed 3 spiders/​bugs in my first 3 hours here. Room is bigger than I expected, hoping I was just unlucky to get so many bugs. Will update after the trip is over.
Update: woke up on the second morning with a bug bite and haven’t killed anymore spiders but have killed a handful of gnats.
This would be a four star hotel without the bug issues because you get a lot for what you pay for but the bugs killed it for me.

Stayed here once and hated it. The only reason why I stayed here was because the knotts berry farm hotel was all booked. The people at the front desk were friendly. The room was a little small but had a mini fridge. The beds were the most uncomfortable beds I’ve slept in. All night I kept hearing people from the other rooms and there kids. So much for a good night sleep before going to knotts. The only reason why I gave this place 2 stars is because the breakfast. My bf and I did not have to go anywhere for that. I’ll never ho here again.

They have bed bugs! My wife got 2 bites that swelled up and stayed for a week, to make up for the problem they said they would refund me what i paid for 2 nights but they only refunded one night. I’m never going to use them again.

This hotel was better than what I expected for the price in this area. It is 10 minutes from Disneyland, which is great, but does not offer a shuttle if that is something you need. The room was supposedly newly renovated, but it definitely wasn’t anything special. It felt pretty old, but it was fairly clean and I felt safe in the room. The continental breakfast was kind of disappointing, all there was were waffles, cereal, and stale bagels. Also the people who work the desk were pretty rude. Every time I tried to call to talk to them I was interrupted multiple times, and when I asked for more towels, I was put on hold for about 5 minutes and then told I need to come up to the front desk to get them myself. So the service wasn’t too great, but again, you’re 10 minutes from Disneyland and right down the street from Knotts, so you can’t expect too much for this price.

We been coming to this hotel for the past 4 years at least twice a year, never had an issue, great price for the location. Rooms are clean, comes with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, safe. Free WiFi, Contientenal breakfast, HBO in the room. Free computer access in the lobby. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Some of these reviews are ridiculous, if you’re expecting 5 star service and accommodations, pay more and stay somewhere else, like a 4 star hotel. My family and I only use the room to take a shower and to sleep. We will definitely be back!

I spent 3 days and 2 nights here. I woke up early on the second day to get some of the continental breakfast. As me and my daughter walked out with our plates a lady almost walked into my daughter and gave her a dirty look. Then she tells me in a raised voice that the next time I get food from the continental breakfast I have to eat inside the room where they serve the food. I didn’t not know this and replied with an ok. She begins to yell at me asking me what room number I am staying in. I was pretty shocked because I have never had a stranger yell at me like that. I asked her why and she just continued to ask me what room number I was in. I just continued to ask her why. This went back and forth a few times and the whole time she is yelling at me. She wasn’t wearing a name tag so I wasn’t sure who she was. I asked her who are you? Why do you need my room number? She then yells at me and says she works there and again asks for my room number. I felt very uncomfortable and to be honest a little scared because of her yelling. She was also scaring my daughter. At that point, I told my daughter let’s go and we walked away as she just continued to yell at us. This encounter with this employee really upset me and my daughter for the rest of our stay.
Not only that, on our last day there, we found a roach in our room.
I have stayed here on 2 separate occasions before this and have never had a problem and always enjoyed my stay. But after this experience, I will never return. This employee was very rude, unprofessional and very intimidating. And the roach didn’t help matters either.

I wish i could give NO STARS! First off, customer service at this Hotel was absolutely horrible. The guy in front was very rude. The rooms are disgusting, carpets have huge dark stains, blankets smelt horrid, the pillows were gross. i took off the pillow case cause the smell was so bad an the pillow had huge yellow stains. The bathrooms are moldy an the toilet smelled like piss. The chairs in the hotels had a huge hole, like as if the padding from the chair was worn down. Couldnt even sit on the chair. Let alone, room service was irritating as well. I called for extra towels an they asked if i could walk to go get them myself. Very disappointing stay, along with a very uncomfortable one.

It must have just been purchased by HJ because the remnants of the old Travelodge were still very present. We were deceived by the web site when we booked the room for our Disneyland vacation as they had renovated one or two rooms and that is what the photos showed but when we arrived and checked into our room, it was not what we had expected. We specifically set out to stay in a room that had a kitchenette as we were in need of saving a few dollars and thought we would do so by cooking for ourselves. That plan was busted because the hotel offers no type of utensils or cookery etc… in their kitchenettes. So our food budget would have been spent on something to cook with and on and we just couldn’t afford both. The room itself was filthy and even though you don’t spend a lot of time in the room while at Disneyland, you do want to feel like you have a clean place to recoup. I needed a shower after I took a shower this place was so gross. The beds were not comfortable and the pool and spa were closed. That was a HUGE let down for the kids. The location of the hotel is fair and they didn’t charge extra for parking but I will look for any place but this hotel in my future expeditions.

The price is good, and it is centrally located to most Orange County attractions. However, it is LOUD! There are rooms being remodeled directly next to us. Having a tired two year old baby with us, with the constant BANG BANG BANG of the hammered right next to our heads has been brutal, and not like a vacation AT ALL! I called the front desk, but they couldn’t really care less. Don’t expect a quiet place to rest your bones after a big day if you book this hotel.

Horrible hotel. We had booked 5 rooms, and received a confirmation with the total price before taxes and when we arrived they tried to tell is that the price was just for the 1^st room. Then we also requested a roller bed and even called ahead to confirm it would be in the room. Upon arrival we were told that the bed isn’t available because housekeeping was gone! I had to sleep on the floor!!! If I could give them zero stars I would. Then when we asked to speak to a manager the receptionist wouldn’t call because it was late. Never bringing my team here again!!! Avoid at all costs!

Honestly, the reviews for this place are too harsh. I think for a 2 star hotel close to all the amusement parks and attractions in Buena park, you can’t get a better deal. I’ve stayed at quite a few motels like good nite inn, so I was expecting something similar to that since I paid $ 60. I was surprised that the rooms were so accommodating. I checked in for me and my boyfriend. Generally we would find ourselves with just one bed, but two were provided. There was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, ironing equipment, and Free wifi and parking. There’s a pool and BBQ station if you want to really enjoy your stay. And there’s a free continental breakfast. I don’t normally get this type of package for paying so little for a room, so all of these perks were unexpected. I was thoroughly pleased with my stay and would definitely come back.

My family and I ended up spending the night in the car. Thanks Priceline and Howard Johnson. I will NEVER use you again.
The people who work here are about the most unhelpful staff I’ve EVER encountered in my life.
I had booked a reservation at Howard Johnson yet when I arrived at the hotel, it was closed… so I figured this HAD to be a mistake. Calling Priceline was useless so I called all the Howard Johnson’s in the area to see if perhaps I had made my reservation there! Or to see if perhaps I could get a room since my original Howard Johnson hotel was supposedly closed.
These people had NO desire to help me. First I asked if I had a reservation there. They looked it up in their system and said No. I asked if it was possible for them to see in their system whether I was booked at another hotel and they said No. I asked if they had any vacancies and if I could book a hotel for the night and they said No. I asked if they knew where the nearest Howard Johnson hotel was and they said No.
I mean, WHAT DO YOU KNOW if you are a Howard Johnson hotel and you don’t even know where the next nearest Howard Johnson hotel is?
Keep in mind this was at 3:00am after driving many hours with 3 sleeping kids in the backseat and nowhere to sleep for the night yet they did nothing to help me locate my reservation. The least they could’ve done was offer any suggestions for accommodations to help make this any easier on me… of course they didn’t.
If you want useless horrible service, call them and see what happens.

Since I don’t expect five star service out of a $ 60/​night hotel, I’m willing to give them three stars. By no means is this place fancy but it serves it’s purpose, which is to give you a place to sleep, shower and move on with your day at an affordable price.
I checked in around 1 a.m. Despite the late hour (we had just returned from a concert in Hollywood), the front desk clerk seemed alert and helpful. The only hiccup came when she thought she had given me the hotel room key and I didn’t recall receiving them. I’m still not sure what happened to the keys but she gave me a new set with no further issue.
Our room seemed relatively clean and featured two double beds as well as a mini fridge and microwave. The A/​C unit was mounted to the wall and wasn’t the quietest. It kicked on periodically throughout the night and woke us up with its loud humming.
The bathroom was okay but the shower curtain rod seemed to be about to fall off the wall. The towels felt like they could use some fabric softener.
On the plus side, the complimentary breakfast was nice. It included a waffle station, two types of cold cereal, bread and bagels to toast, oatmeal as well as apple juice, orange juice and coffee. The only thing missing that I like at continental breakfasts was yogurt.
The lady at check out was very friendly and invited me to leave a review on Tripadvisor. I told her I was a Unilocaler and would be leaving one here instead. :)

I had originally avoided booking this place because of the bad reviews, but like an idiot I did one of the «secret hotel» deals and got this anyhow, I was furious considering the reviews… but after staying here I have to say that it was not nearly as bad as I was led to believe. It is an older hotel but good for the price.
Pros– Rooms were clean
Had small fridge and microwave
Free breakfast
Nice BBQ and picnic area
Clean pool (although didnt get a chance to use it)
Free Internet (not super slow either)
Cons– Breakfast was on the skimpy side (toast, cereal, orange slices, waffles, juice
and coffee).
No extra pillows available (but did offer blanket u could roll up)
One of the lights was broken (worked but bulb laid sideways)
Overall its okay. Ive stayed in better for the price and much worse for the same.
