Mosby Winery

I am always happy to come here since this is the first stop on my personal wine tour. Lovely little wine tasting room, friendly vibe, and the coolest disco bathroom ever. (Check out the pics!) Always buy something, good reds and whites at reasonable prices. The album sold there «Let The Dog» decide is great, so check it out.

These wines are very unique. If you love Italian varietals like Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio this place is a nice change of pace from the standards of the valley — Pinot noir and Chardonnay. A great stop when touring santa Rita hills. Make it the first stop or the last stop depending on which way you go!

Rose was just ok, and their pinot noirs too. Pricey! Beautiful setting and great barn for private venues.

Excellent reds (Italian varietals) and dessert wines and brandies. The tasting room and grounds are beautiful and the staff is very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Would have loved to try a tasting, but we were turned away with 10 minutes before closing. Perhaps they should post what time tastings end. Obviously they have more business than they need!

Finally excited to make it back after 6 yrs and damn near walked back out but im a big girl and poor service does not make my day turn easily.
The swedish guys next to me got great service, all wines explained and regions.
I had to look at the bottle once he set it down to even see what he was pouring. Its all good I just drove 3 hrs to see you and 5 hrs more till home, I will figure it out myself. I dont need to relax or anything.
So thank you for eventually saying a few more words to me Chris, but I am not excited as much to visit again in the next 6 yrs, I will still consider continuing shipping my wine.

UNIQUE ITALIAN WINES (BOLD STRONG DEEP REDS)
Was here Oct 11^th 2014. It was our last stop of the day. After visiting three other wineries FOLEY, DIERBERG, LA FOND, it was refreshing to finally come across a winery that does not have the standard Chard, Pinot, Cab line-​up. Mosby’s specializes in ITALIAN varietals/​.
I only recognized one type of grape/​wine which was the Primativo. They have interesting blends if you are into the dark heavier strong deep reds. This happens to be my style. The Primativo was my fav just enough sweetness to interest me with this bold and balanced dryness which would be great before a BBQ.
Most of them were smooth and rich. Wine tasting is so subjective but if you read enough reviews of this place you will get enough of an idea that this place is unique and has different wines compared to the other places around the BUELTON/​LOMPAC area.
The lady pouring was friendly and enthusiastic. Just an overall pleasant experience. No one was trying to push their club membership on us like some places do. This has a mom and pop vibe,
It’s right off the 101 freeway which is convenient if you are just passing through to other places and don’t have the time to just wander though country roads. It’s tucked away under a thick canopy of trees, the tasting room is inside a maroon and blue painted barn. I bought the Primativo (only $ 27) and a coaster tile. The artwork on the bottles is pretty cool. I forgot to check out the cool bathroom I keep hearing about. I will be back here again.

3-​stars for the wine. The reds, particularly the Sangiovese and the Teroldego, were not bad. I didn’t particularly care for the sparkling wine Stelline di Cortese. Prices for most of the wines were $ 28-​$ 30, which seemed reasonable.
1-​star for the service. The gentleman pouring for us, seemed more interested in flirting and taking pictures with 3 younger ladies in another group. The only conversation we got was the name of the wine, and a «thank you» when we left.
Never saw the bathroom, I hear it’s not to be missed.

Loved Mosby! Wonderful tasting experience and we ended up going twice this past weekend to visit Chris there.

All grapes are Italian varietals, and we prefer deep bold reds, so we didn’t love the wines.

My husband and I had a great tasting experience here. I work in the industry and look for other places to send my higher end customers so they may have an enjoyable knowledgable experience and mosby was just that. Aside from an outstanding flight the gentleman behind the bar, Chris, had an exuberant amount of knowledge on the wines, varietals and history of what was being poured. I suggest trying the teroldego, ossessione, and sagrantino beautiful Italian reds. Visit and enjoy!

Stopped by today on our way back from Santa Barbara to Bay Area. We arrived at 10:30 as a few wine club members were leaving with their monthly bottles. We were the only people there so we had the room to ourselves. The person pouring was excellent and gave us great background on the winery and the wines. We tasted 6 wines and loved them all. The server, Ginny, told us the labels are designed by an 85 year old Italian gentleman who actually designed the Chanel Perfume bottle 65 years ago (I’m going to Google it).
The bathroom has some of the funkiest lighting I’ve ever seen in a bathroom. More appropriate for a Pink Floyd concert than a winery bathroom.
Overall it was a great experience. Great wine, eclectic venue, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I suggest getting here early as our hostess said it can get 3 people deep in the afternoon and would take away from personal touch.

Mosby specializes in Italian style wines and has the honor and distinction of having my favorite of all central California’s wine: La Seduzione. I thought it was a bit odd that I was charged a tasting fee after buying a CASE of it, but whatever, I still walked away a winner with all of my yummy goodness.
Absolutely not to be missed is the restroom. I don’t care if you don’t need it; check it out, or you’ll regret it.

I was introduced to this winery for the first time when we made a trip up to the Santa Ynez valley this spring and man, have we been missing out. The wine is beautiful both inside and out. The labels are painted by an Italian artist and are just stunning! The warmth from the crew at the tasting room is outstanding. Ginny poured for us at the tasting room and she was awesome. Knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth and funny. We had such a great time. I would recommend becoming a member here b/​c I have not tasted a bad wine and I’m happy to be associated with such a wonderful place.

Mosby was amazing! Just a great deal and you get to keep your glass. The sweet lady that worked there knew so much about every wine and showed us maps and a back stories on each wine we tasted. She went as far as recommending local places to get and marking them on a map for us. I definitely will be back!

Love this winery so much that I became a part of the wine club. Being part of the wine club includes 4 shipments a year and free tastings for two. So today we took advantage of the complimentary tastes ($ 10 each if you aren’t part of the club but that includes keeping the glass as a souvenir). I’ve been here a couple of times, and each time i’ve come, i’m wonderfully surprised at the different wines they have.
The tasting room is very unique. It looks like an oversized barn but when you go inside, the tasting room is quite small. It’s cute and quaint and workers behind the bar are super friendly and they love to talk, so you learn a lot about the wine, the grounds, the wine makers, the grapes, just about everything. This helps pass some time so you don’t drink too much too fast. Another thing I like about the pourers is that they don’t use the stoppers that give you a set amount of wine, they pour how much they want, so at the end of the day, when they’ve been tapping into the bottles themselves, they are a lot more liberal with the pours.
The wines vary. Some are very good, some, not so good, i guess it’s just the luck of the draw. Today, everything was good. The Cortese and Pinot Grigio were very sharp and refreshing, the Primitivo and Teroldego were my favorites.
The vineyard is right off of the freeway so it’s really easy to find and makes a good first stop as you travel to more wineries in the area. The grounds are cute, there are picnic tables if you decide to have one there but the freeway noise makes a quiet picnic impossible.

Mosby is an unusual winery, specializing in Italian varietals rather than regional vines. For the casual sipper, this presents a number of problems. Many of their grapes, such as the Sagrantino and Teroldego, are virtually unheard of in the United States. Adding to the confusion, the Ossessione is actually imported from Italy! So if you’re looking for an authentic taste of Santa Barbara County, keep driving down Santa Rosa.
That being said, there’s some stand-​out bottles here. I enjoyed a glass of Mosby’s Primativo over a rib eye at the Hitching Post, where it compared favorably to the ‘sacred’ Highliner. Grown along the Central Coast, the wine had a bold tartness and dry finish. Closer to home, I also enjoyed their Roc Michel – a deep syrah and mouverdre blend selling for an incredible price.
Sadly, the tasting bottles are on rotation, so I was unable to get any deeper into the menu. I was aching to try their homebrewed mead and slivovitz, but so it goes. At the end of the trail, when you’re sick of Rhôné-​style reds and finished with roussanes, Mosby is still worth a snort or two.

Mosby is one of the first wineries I’ve gone to in California that focuses on Italian wines. The tasting room is small and reservations are recommended.
They also press and sell olive oil. Unfortunately they’re not licensed for free tastes of food.
