History

Established in 2005.

Founded in 2008 by Matt Damon and Paul Shepherd, PHP began because of Matt and Paul’s desire to help a wider range of Maine homeowners save money, use less energy, reduce their carbon footprints, and live more comfortably. Matt and Paul started out by doing everything themselves, from energy auditing to installation work to bookkeeping. As their reputation has grown, they have added like-​minded employees with a passion for saving energy, to help the company succeed. Now centrally located in Bucksport Maine, PHP has a crew with over 30 years’ experience who travel throughout Penobscot, Hancock, Waldo and Knox counties, saving people money and Making Maine homes more comfortable, healthy, and energy efficient.

Matt D.

Business Owner

Prior to starting Penobscot Home Performance with Paul, Matt worked as an energy auditor in the low-​income sector. He spent 2 years testing and weatherizing homes in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties through the federal Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Before entering the home performance field, he was a carpenter, concentrating his efforts on high-​end homes. He is a Building Performance Institute –certified Building Analyst, as well as a Maine State Energy Auditor and a certified Lead Smart Renovator. Matt earned a B.S. in Zoology from The University of New Hampshire, and worked for many years on commercial fishing vessels in Alaska. Matt lives in Brewer with his wife Jessie, daughters Violet and Stella, and dog Jack. When not working to increase the efficiency of homes, Matt enjoys cross-​country skiing, skijoring, rock climbing, and competing in triathlons.
