History

Established in 1979.

Originally opened as Bowman’s String & Horn Shop on Haswell Street by luthier Bradley Bowman in 1979, the store became The String & Horn Shop, Inc. when Paul and Susan Rieger purchased the business in 1994 and relocated the storefront to the former Duke & Ayers (circa 1876) building in Historic Downtown Bryan. The String & Horn Shop has remained in this building ever since, being one of the cornerstone businesses that helped revitalize the now-​thriving small business district of the Downtown Bryan area.

The repair man is very nice and honest. He took a look at my friends flute, fixed the issue and didn’t charge us a dime! He recommended some much needed maintenance but was honest and didn’t pressure us to buy anything. I appreciated his honesty and kindness.

I love this place! My son is a second year tuba player. Last year I walked in here needing books (having no idea what I was getting) and the owner knew EXACTLY what we needed! This year we needed a tuba! My son has proven that THIS IS something that he is going to stick with. I never imagined that here, we would find a BEAUTIFUL vintage tuba. It was like it was waiting for my son to put it in his lap and play it. The owner and I sat there and watched him play, and we knew! THAT was the one! Everyone there is helpful and kind, but most of all, PATIENT! I highly recommend this shop to any beginner, novice or pro :)
