Volunteer run museum with one temporary exhibit and one permanent exhibit room. It is great to see this group tell the story of local and national African-American experience.

Very small museum, exhibit changes quarterly. I agree with kim d review, it could be improved, but it’s still a nice place to take the family to learn more about the area.

Is there a way to flag Greg D.‘s review as racist? Or at least as ignorant? «The simplicity of the Museum does accurately reflect that Africans lack of history when it comes to Architecture or creation of any…» Srsly? IMHO, the museum could certainly be improved(better curation of the standing collection, in particular, with more details on the African-American history in the Brazos Valley, i.e., school integration, contributions to local economy, etc.). Still, it’s a nice place to take your family and learn a bit more about the area. The folks who work there are very friendly. The space is clean and taken care of.

Have visited the Brazos Valley African American Museum when walking around in downtown Bryan and actually questioned why it exists? While the displays of African animals are sort of cool, they are simplistic and sadly represent animals that have been killed off by humans. The simplicity of the Museum does accurately reflect that Africans lack of history when it comes to Architecture or creation of any modern industrial solutions, at all. Something is missing though. What about Asian American History? What about European American history? What about Native American History? To disclude all those other folks pretty much shows a lack of accurate history There is no such thing as an «African American», the United States doesn’t colonize Africa. If born here you are an American, period. This example of government waste needs to be closed.
