Summary: took our deposit money, jacked up contract price, then refused to refund us when we cancelled contract. The proprietor took our $ 7k deposit for a $ 14k exterior siding job he estimated, cashed it immediately late on a Friday (9÷4÷15). He promised to start the next day with his own professional crew (one of the reason we gave he the job in the first place because we wanted to do it soon). Next day, he delivered about $ 1000 worth of wood siding in the morning then disappeared for the rest of the day. After repeated calls from us, many unanswered, he scrounged up 2 random people from craigslist late afternoon. They had no tools because he promised them there were tools on site, so they could not do anything. At the same time, before any work is even done, he claimed that the job is bigger than he estimated, should be $ 20k and demanded another $ 3k or he can’t start work. We decided to cancel the job and asked for our deposit back. He refused and claimed that the sloppy receipt he wrote us for the $ 7k, with no terms specified and no signatures by him or us, is a binding contract we cannot back out of. We will now have to pursue legal means to get our money back. What he did is basically stealing and fraud. Check past Denver BBB complaint against him, he has a history of doing this.
