I had a question+ request and politely asked the owner «Ahmed». He was surprisingly rude, yelled at me like a psychopath he didn’t understand me obviously. Ahmed kept yelling for almost 5 minutes. You had a bad day ahmed! Dont storm out on me! Its unethical.

The lighting in the bathroom was dim. When I tried washing my hand the water came out all yellow and dirty !! I tried talking to the manager about it, he said he was aware of that yet he didn’t put a sign or anything! The owner is very rude and clearly doesn’t know how to run a business.

Love love love this place!!! Food is always great and fresh my go to when I have friends and family with me! Always hits the spot

I remember when this restaurant first opened. I was probably about 11 or so and the very first dish I remember trying was their delicious Zataar bread. Nowadays, I usually come here for the beef shawarma platter. Beef shawarma on top of rice served with a salad, hummus and pita bread. My absolute favorite. and if you have a sweet tooth the Knafe is an excellent choice. I like to wash it down with their Arabic coffee. The décor is nice and cozy and the waitstaff is always pleasant. This place is definitely worth checking out.

Great lentil soup. Pita is always fresh and tasty. Have been ordering from them for 10 years and always fast delivery and hot food. Falafel sandwich is a bit dry and so always order hummus with it. Would give them a 4, but the owner just decided to start charging $ 0.50 for additional hot sauce. Kind of lame, especially after being a customer for 10 years!

I usually order take out from Zaytoon’s but the few times I’ve gone to dine in I’m always blown away by how friendly the wait staff is! They’re very patient, helpful and knowledgeable.
I always get the falafel or some other non-​meat meza/​salad and it’s always fresh and tasty. I also love they have a BYOB policy! The only issue I have (well, I don’t have it, but the person who ordered the burger does) is that they use a very standard bread on their burgers. It’s almost as if it just came out of the freezer. With food so flavorful they should use the pita or a better quality of bread. Otherwise, I enjoy the food!

I have never had middle eastern food before, so I was a bit hesitant with choosing to eat here. You know, there’s a first for everything but not all experiences are good. However I was determined to try something new and went on in. I can’t remember the name of the dish I had or much of what it composed of, other than chicken, mushrooms and peppers. But what I can remember is how it made me feel. And when I left I remember feeling great, because it was great food for a great price!

I’ve loved this place 1x weekly for the past 2 years until tonight. Forgot half the order, refused to refund or send the missing items, hung up on me, then picked up the phone once I called from a different number and promise to deliver… and never showed. So rude, terrible service and took 70 minutes to show up.

I’m seriously heartbroken to write this review. Ten years ago, I got dinner from this location multiple times each week and would have sworn it was the best middle eastern spot around… Now that I’ve left the city, I miss it a lot so when we were near by for some shopping we got take out on the way home. Got home to discover the babaganouj and other salads we’d gotten were already rancid. Yuck.

Their food used to be solid maybe 3 years ago. Now food and service are terrible. Paid almost 10 bucks for a falafel platter with baba and hummus. Not only I was robbed of the hummus and only received baba, but there was no rice!!! Will not be going back there. I’m glad myrtle ave has better restaurants now! I’m only giving them 2 starts cause of their nice fresh pita bread, otherwise the dish blows.

Zaytoons food is amazing! Especially the shawarma. It it a casual restaurant so my boyfriend and I come for lunch most of the times. Love it

Disappointingly mediocre food, at best. Had a falafel platter (as take away) and it was pretty bland. Truth be told, the falafel tasted exactly like the hummus which tasted exactly like the salad. At least the pita was decent.

Yum! Service is a bit slow sometimes but the food is good and the price is right. Atmosphere is always cozy— great spot to warm up with friends in the winter.

I have been a fan of this restaurant for about ⁶⁄₇ years. Went to school at Pratt and we used to go or order from here all the time. In the last few years I have brought friends from all over to eat here. They all LOVE it! Great casual atmosphere. The back room is great for a party. It’s BYOB which is wonderful, but had to deduct a star since they now charge a $ 5 per bottle corkage fee that they only recently started doing and prices also went up a bit since I was here. I would avoid ordering the desserts here. Was not impressed at all and we ordered a chocolate moose cake that was still frozen from the freezer. Prices are still very good and the people there are very accommodating. All in all delicious food. I recommend the shwarma platter or the pitzas made with fresh pita. The pitas and hummus are to die for. Order the large. It’s so tasty you will eat it all up if you are a hummus fan! They also offer hookah at about $ 5-​$ 8 per person. If you are a hookah fan, they have some awesome flavors.

Great food — not-​so-​great service. Prices are great and nothing beats their Falafel platter and pita! They tend to close earlier than said time, which can be a little frustrating. Try to get there before 10:00 and you’re good.

I was so surprised to read any negative reviews! I love Zaytoons (enough that my phone doesn’t autocorrect it because I text about it enough!) I have been here numerous times with my boyfriend, who has lived in the Middle East, and we are both huge fans. I took my parents here too, and was a bit nervous as my dad has very high standards for middle eastern food. They both loved it, and said its the absolute best baba ghanoush and moujadara that they’ve had in years, with the falafel being high on the list as well (my top pick for falafel is the falafel king cart on 30^th in astoria). The servers are always very nice, although there is one girl who is always amazing and I’ve had one guy that wasn’t so good at being a waiter, although he was sweet.
Overall — cheap, good food, byob, and a really pretty atmosphere makes for an awesome date night spot! Go!

Good atmosphere, Good service. Every time I’m in Brooklyn I make sure to visit. You won’t be disappointed. Fresh pitas made to order. My wife had the salad combo platter, couldn’t finish, yay for me!

I am reviewing three items on their menu list ive tried throughout time.
–their falafel was ok. it was dryish and not salty enough. too much pickles!
–tried their chicken swarma, that was actually pretty good. chose to have no pickles nor tomatoes this time.
–vegetable kabob sandwich– bland and watery and burnt. there were black bits in my food or literally on the cut up veggies. maybe they burnt it and tried to save it by adding water. it tasted burnt too. no sauce or anything and eventually i felt it was weird to eat cooked veggies on a pita bread. Plus i forgot to have no pickles. bland veggies and sour pickles didn’t work. so i took the pickles out and ate it bland instead.

I admit, I hadn’t visited Zaytoons because Black Iris is my go-​to neighborhood Mediterranean spot. After a month of mixed veggie plates at Black Iris, I finally decided to try something new and check out Zaytoons.
What I discovered was a mixed bag.
First, the space is really odd– there’s a tiny seating section in the front which is nice because you can watch the endless flow of people down Myrtle Avenue. But that space is small enough that once people are smoking hookah, the smell can get a little nauseating.
When we arrived, the front was full and the host escorted us into the ‘hookah lounge,’ essentially a party room at the back of the restaurant. At first, I was reluctant to sit in a dark back room far from everyone else, but I thought it might be a nice reprieve from the smoke. For the rest of the night, we were the only people in the so-​called lounge, and we were seated at a table that could have comfortably seated nine or ten. I enjoyed the privacy but it was also sort of odd to find ourselves in a dark, cavernous room alone. The other minus– the music is very loud in the back room– when we asked the host if it was possible to turn it down, he told us that he couldn’t because then it would be too quiet in the front.
The other odd thing about the back room is that we really felt neglected (the waiter joked «I’ve been ignoring you all night!» awkward!) — we would have to literally come out of the hookah ‘lounge’ with empty water glasses to ask for refills.
Most of what we sampled was tasty– and as others have noted, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Of the veggie dishes: the moujadarra was particularly good that night– filled with lots and lots of beautiful fried onions– although the temperature is a little odd (it was very cold!), and the baba ghanoush and hummus were both tasty, as were the falafels. I’d skip the fatoush (it’s very flat tasting, even the crunchy pita in the fatoush doesn’t give it enough of a kick), and the grape leaves (served at a bone-​chillingly cold temperature).
I think Black Iris is still a tiny bit better, even though it’s a pain that they are cash only. But it’s nice to have Zaytoons as an option, especially for take out.

Oh Zaytoons, I loves you. I’ve been coming here since 2003 and have almost always gotten the same thing — the spinach pie. Get it with mozerella. It’s like $ 7 and is good enough for two meals. Just drizzle it with olive oil and you’re good to go. The size has gotten smaller since 2003 but it’s still tasty.
Never had a service problem here, everyone has been nothing but nice!
