We Are All Brooklyn (WAAB), founded in 2001, works to strengthen Brooklyn and value its diversity by proactively uniting communities, building partnerships, and advancing the next generation of leaders.

History

Established in 2001.

In the wake of 9/11, Brooklyn’s community leaders recognized the potential for the hateful backlash generated by the attack to spread to the streets of their borough, prompting them to establish We Are All Brooklyn (WAAB). What began as a small coalition now represents more than 75 Brooklyn-based organizations. The WAAB Coalition has been at the forefront of enabling the borough’s diverse communities to jointly address concerns such as hate crimes and quality of life issues.

In 2008, the founders of WAAB established a Fellowship to train new leaders working for community, faith-based, government, non-profit, and private sector organizations in Brooklyn. The WAAB Fellowship is a year-long leadership development program entering its seventh year dedicated to advancing the next generation of Brooklyn’s diverse leaders and empowering them to become change agents to strengthen Brooklyn.
