Wasp Poster and Print is a custom design and print company specializing in high quality stationery for events, businesses and individuals. We are primarily a letterpress shop utilizing vintage and antique equipment to produce stationery with a tactile quality. We are happy to work with you from concept to finished product or just produce something that you have designed yourself. Please send us an email with your idea or design.

History

Established in 2011.

We craft posters, art prints, stationery, business cards, wedding invitations and just about anything else that you can imagine being printed. Utilizing both hand set type and the most current digital to photopolymer technologies, WASP celebrates tradition while expanding the possibilities of the world of printed objects. We are also dedicated to expanding the craft of letterpress and supporting artists through the publication and printing of letterpress editions.

Business Owner

Nicholas Hurd received an MFA in Printmaking from the California College of Art in 2010 and a BFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004. He has worked professionally as a letterpress printer for 10 years and has taught Letterpress in both California at the Kala Art Institute and in New York at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. In addition to being a printer and designer he is also an artist, maple syrup enthusiast and gentleman gardner.

Nick is amazing and affordable to work with. He’s extremely communicative and professional with fast turnaround on quotes & proofs. I designed my wedding invitations, but he executed the printing perfectly even with a somewhat detailed illustration.

I was referred to Wasp Poster and Print by a friend of mine and my experience was top notch. I am a Sr. Art Director in NYC with very high standards and decided to design my own wedding invitations, which can be a nerve-​wracking experience. I worked closely with Nick who is very professional, patient and explains everything clearly. He walked me through the various samples and gave me a very clear idea of what the end result would look like. Based on his recommendation, I opted to go with a gold foil print and letterpress – no regrets! In addition, I needed these printed fairly quickly and he ended up delivering them way earlier than the date we agreed upon. My family and I are so happy with the final result! I almost cried tears of joy. The invitations were wrapped beautifully and the trim on each invite was so crisp, clean and precise. This was by far, one of my highlights of the entire wedding planning experience, it was fun, easy, and surprisingly stress-​free, thanks to Nick! Also, I had received quotes from other vendors and Wasp is very reasonable.
This is officially my new go-​to printer. 5 stars all around!

Nick at Wasp Poster and Print was amazing to work with on our wedding invitations. He met with us and showed us around his print shop (super cool), showed us samples of his work (tons of wedding stationery and plenty of variety), and talked with us about the aesthetic of our wedding and what we wanted our invitations to look like. He provided us with multiple rounds of proofs and took our input at every step. We ended up with beautiful, unique, high quality invitations that not only reflected our taste and wedding but received countless compliments from our friends and family.

I was provided a steep quote by our invitation makers that exceeded our budget tremendously. Frantic, I started researching other reasonably priced printers around NYC. I am so glad I found Nick and Wasp Poster and Print! I mentioned to him that I was on a very tight schedule; to my surprise, he was very laid back about it and had proofs ready in a matter of two days, as well as had the invitations ready in four. I just received my amazing new business cards from Wasp Poster and Print. Having just started my own business, it was really important to me to have cards that stand out. I designed my own graphics, but I know Nick also designs really beautiful cards, stationary, and business cards. Either way he took my design and made it workable and well layed out on the tiny surface that is the business card. Everyone I have given my card to has asked where I had them made. Seriously worth the expense — these are hand crafted gems that stand out against any cheekily printed business card and have customers remembering who you are. I love them!

My (now) husband and I had the pleasure of working with Nick on our wedding invitations, after being referred to him by a friend after seeing the impressive wedding invite he created for her. We had researched a few other options for the vintage-​style, letterpress look we were going for and found Nick’s pricing very reasonable in comparison. We are so happy we chose to go with him (as opposed to an online printing company or a local store like Paper Presentation) because the experience was not only stress-​free but very personalized from the start! Nick took the time to do a detailed consultation with us in his studio right down to selecting the exact colors we wanted to use. He came up with a half-​letterpress/​half-​digital printing combination that fit our budget. Best of all, because my husband and I are both artists/​designers ourselves, we came with some pre-​existing ideas and drawings for what we wanted and Nick was able to incorporate them and come up with something better! He was also willing to revise the design several times to make sure it really matched our vision and was very flexible and open to feedback. In the end, all our guests raved about the invitations and two people even gave us framed invitations as gifts which we now proudly display in our home!

I’ve now worked with Nick on 2 projects recently. The first project was cards for my newly started business. First of all, Nick’s calm demeanor made the process smooth and easy. His artistic background was invaluable in the design process. It was great that he approached the look of the cards not only from a graphic design standpoint, but as an artist/​illustrator as well. And finally from a technical standpoint he had great ideas that I never would have thought of when it comes to how to physically create the cards. I couldn’t be happier with the end product and the cards definitely impress those that I give them to.
Based on this experience, I am now in the middle of the design process with Nick for my wedding invitations. I think that statement alone should go a long way as a major endorsement of his work. The design has turned out great and we are looking forward to having the invitations pressed soon.

I got some letterpress show posters done by Wasp a while back so this review is long overdue. Nick was very easy to work with even though I’m all the way in Chicago. He always emailed back quickly and there was no confusion as to what the final product would look like. Nick and I bounced some ideas around and I was given clear and helpful insight on how my design would interpret best into a great letterpress poster. From the beginning stages of the concept to the proof and the final product I was a completely satisfied customer. The final product which was amazing, securely packaged and arrived in a timely fashion came out exactly as we discussed. I would definitely get work done with Wasp again. Even though I’m a major city away the quality, comfort and care which went into the work weigh out the shipping costs any day.

Working with Nick on our wedding invitations was a true pleasure, and quite a bargain given the quality of the work.
As someone who once dabbled in letterpress, my fiancée was absolutely set on our having letterpress invitations. A dear friend of ours designed the invitation and Nick brought his keen eye and unparalleled artistry needed to create the invitations themselves. He kept us informed every step of the way and got the invitations done very quickly. When it turned out that one of the colors I’d chosen just wouldn’t look good, Nick let us know right away and suggested alternatives. I got a particular alternate color in my head and Nick was able to perfectly match that color from a dress of mine. The invitations that Nick produced perfectly captured the vision we had for our wedding.
To this day, we still get compliments on our wedding invitations and look forward to working with Nick again in the future.

Nick provided exceptional quality custom letterpress work for gifts I sent to my clients. After an initial consultation he prepared a sample/​mockup. Once everything was in production he worked quickly and had the product ready a few days ahead of my deadline. I’m on the west coast, and working remotely with Nick was easy-​peasey. He was communicative and easy to reach. Shipping was prompt and fast.

When I was planning my wedding, I knew I wanted one-​of-​a-​kind letterpress wedding invitations, but I didn’t know where to start. Enter WASP Poster and Print! My (then) fiancé and I met with Nick and just starting throwing ideas at him — colors, fonts, graphics, etc. We knew how we wanted the end result to feel, but had no clue how to get there. After showing us a lot of samples (which really gave us an idea of the endless letterpress possibilities), and just chatting with us about ourselves and our wedding, he was able to glean all of the key elements from those conversations in order to create something incredibly personal and unique. The design was so perfect, that it became a sort of jumping off point for the decorative theme of the entire wedding. My (now) husband and I couldn’t be happier with all of our custom wedding stationery and would recommend WASP Poster and Print to anyone looking for impeccable craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. We can’t wait to have the chance to use them again. Who knows, maybe it’ll be baby announcements next!
