Walla Moving

I should have written this review over a year ago, but my cross-​country move was traumatic and I wanted to just forget everything about it. I’m ready to protect future customers now from head and heartache.
My move was from NY to LA. 3 men showed up and were overall good spirited and kind, however professional lines were eventually crossed, which I found out only later. My girlfriend told me one of the guys started hitting on her when I left to go get cash from the bank down the street. I wasn’t surprised because she looked really good and that happened often, but by hired help to be dogs behind my back was not right. There were also a few discrepancies with extra charges, but after some back and forth we got it ironed out.
Once the boxes and belongings got dropped off in Los Angeles, we were shocked to see the boxes all sorts of thrown around, crushed, many items broken throughout. The guys who unloaded told us they were embarrassed by it, but that it honestly wasn’t their fault, the two of them were hired last minute (it was their first job with Walla) because the original packer slipped off the load dock and broke his arm. My family is in the Moving business in LA and their guess was that our drop-​off was last. So when the back of the truck was full, it stayed tight and in place, but as other moves were delivered and the truck emptied, the boxes started falling and getting thrashed around back there.
We attempted to make a claim, but they said we needed to provide all original receipts of purchase for each item we complained about. We honestly did not have all the original receipts since some things were bought years ago… and it soon was looking like an uphill, losing battle. Example: A gorgeous iron lamp was destroyed and a gash was made in the side of a Tempur-​pedic bed.
Bottom line: i would never use or recommend Walla Moving. Friendly on the phones, but that doesn’t translate to your personal items and girlfriend being treated with dignity.

Agility van lines my original moving company who FYI told us they don’t sub contract to precision movers to this company all our stuff was broken my 1500 sofa broken in half all my wedding stuff ruined my glass ware all broken all our bedroom stuff broken 2 bookcases broken my sons bed broken ruined stuff everywhere ugh disgusting who these companies work all intertwined somehow also when this truck got here there was one guy Amair and he wanted and additional 1800 bucks in top of what we paid and what we agreed to pay !!! This was a NIGHTMARE !!! Get a U-​HAUL ITS CHEEPER LESS STRESS !!! Horrible LIARS THEVES SCAMMERS RUN DONT WALK DO NOT HIRE YOU WILL BE SORRY !!!

Had multiple things broken upon arrival. Tried to cover it up by leaving the moving blankets on the furniture that was broken. Also had a box stolen that had expensive video equipment in it. We’re not helpful at all on the phone.
DO NOT USE. LET THEM GO OUT OF BUSINESS

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a company in my life. They promised a date and didn’t deliver until over a week later. They finally showed and gave me all my things. The only difference between when I gave them to Walla and I received them back was that they were broken or missing. The price was almost double what I was quoted. So basically to sum it up. I have been completed robbed. I would have lost less money if I threw all of my belongings in the garbage. So to the next customer, when they show up at your house and come up with some ridiculous reason why your cost is going to be double and they no longer can deliver by the date they originally told you, make sure you tell them to go home. Take the loss on the deposit that they make you give them ahead of time. Just throw your stuff in the garbage. I guarantee you it will save you money. These people should be in jail.

Overall a bad experience, although the pick up/​pack up guys did a good job. The sales guy Mitch told me over the phone that the stuff would arrive in 4 – 7 days, so I made travel plans to be there in 4 days just in case. Then they come to pack up the stuff and those guys said 7 – 10 business days! Too late to change the other plans. I had to go almost two weeks with no bed, nowhere to sit, no dishes, etc.
Secondly, when the guy told me the cubic footage — what the price is based on — he wouldn’t measure it for me! I did my own math based on their written estimate and it should have been 540, but he charged me for 660, telling me it was much more but he would do me a favor if I gave him a great tip. I almost got a tape measure and measured it myself. I will never know if that extra $ 1000 was justified or not.
Thirdly, when they delivered, the driver did not want to take my check, which Mitch, 2 weeks ago when I hired them, told me to prepare. They delivered on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend so there was no reaching anybody. The driver insisted on cash. I was able to change it out for him (luckily!) but told him I would need a good receipt. He signed «$ 0» on the paperwork, as if paid in full, balance is $ 0. But that line said AMOUNT RECEIVED BY DRIVER. As if I had given him nothing at delivery! When my sister wrote «$ 1757 given in cash. Check rejected by driver.» on the paperwork, and asked him to initial it, that’s when he started freaking out. He tried to leave without giving us a receipt, although we had just given him a ton of cash!
Also, I was told it would be Walla all the way, no middle man, but the guys that showed up with my stuff did not work for them, so we had a problem. Either that or they really were trying to take the cash and tell the company I had not paid upon delivery.

I made the mistake of not reviewing Walla’s Unilocal page before using their service. I went with them because I thought it was a good price, I ended up paying a lot more for their services than I was anticipating. Walla’s back office people are a nightmare to deal with after they got my stuff. They broke a couple items during the move but with coverage of $.60 a pound it isn’t even worth pursuing, especially if it requires opening up a dialogue with them again.

Basically from the onset I should’ve realized it was going to be a shit show. While my estimator Diana was nice, everything else was the polar opposite (fyi, she told me they pay $ 75 if you write a review. I am pretty sure that’s only if it’s favorable. I will keep you posted.) So they day of my move comes, Dec 1. I have a 10 – 1130 window. I am up at 8 am and call to confirm because no one had called me. It’s a Monday, it can happen. Guy gets my information, says he’s going to check and call me back. He calls me back and tells me that yes, I do have a pick up scheduled and that’s my window. Great. 1215 they call me to confirm for Tues ¹²⁄₂. Um, no. That’s the day I fly out, no I wouldn’t have scheduled it then. Now suddenly this guy has an attitude and tells me that I had a window from 12÷1−2. Who the fuck schedules a 2 day window to move? He does not have a response for this. Says he’ll try calling people in, but if not they’ll come first thing in the morning. This ends up being the case. 3 guys come, which is pointless because the «foreman» spent the entire time bitching about his life, his company, etc. Actually tells me that he walked out on a customer the day before and left their shit there because he got into it with the boss. When he wasn’t complaining about that, he was telling me about every ailment he currently has. Then, he not only has the audacity to tell me to tip «it’s really the right thing to do» but actually tells me what that amount should be!
My furniture is scheduled to be stored until I get an address. Week 2 I call with an address. I am told it will be shipped the next day and I will have it by Friday or Saturday. Wednesday I call to confirm which it’ll be, and the same asshole I got when they screwed up the pick up informs me they don’t have an address for me and is not being delivered. Oh. Hell. No. Then, someone named David, very nice guy calls me to see what the issue is. I explain it all and he says they are loading it now, it’ll be here Dec 23 latest. I ask what address they have and he gives me the correct one which means the first guy was lying through his teeth. My stuff gets here Sunday morning. The guys delivering it are fantastic. They are friendly, courteous, nice, etc. I find out they don’t work for Walla. Of course they don’t, they’re professionals.
I begin unpacking. Several items in my «very fragile» box are broken, my bed is scratched up and my bookshelf pretty much destroyed.
Don’t use this company. Like ever.

Thank you Walla for moving us to a new place. The truck arrived on time, three workers wrapped and loaded all our belongings carefully and quick.
We have a lot of kitchen supplies especially china, glassware and gentle vintage furniture. Everything transported safely and without any damages! thanks!

You have heard of sociopaths but are there sociopathic companies? Yes, and this is one of them. Not only is this company set up to commit fraud and take your money, the sociopathic owner goes much further by insuring that you are dealing with a pathological lying sociopath on every level of your move. Behind that veneer of smooth-​talking glib and superficial charm, the pathological lying, conning and manipulations set in. You have to trust whom you hire to the job at hand and once you sign on with this monsters– you are doomed. These people «get off» on the con and ripping you off. They are proving that they are smarter than you, in control, in charge and there is nothing you can do about it. It is both a challenge (to pick your pocket and screw with you) and a game to them. To them, it is stimulating to con you and keeps them from being bored. Of course when the con is completed and you start to complain and freak out there is the utter lack of remorse and guilt and a callousness and lack of empathy that will astound and frustrate you as they give you the run around and outright lie. Don’t forget– this is a game to them and they are laughing behind your back and — all the way to the bank. There is a special place in Hell for devious clowns like this who prey on the innocent– so you will need to sit back and wait for their fate to finally overwhelm them.

had overall a terrible experience. they forgot to reserve our date of pick up, so i was left waiting for movers for over twelve hours, going into 1am on a sunday night. the movers themselves were very nice, especially after having worked a double shift and were still expected to clock in the next day at 6am. they talked about having to sleep in the truck, which seems inhumane to me. a gross way to treat your employees.
the cost of the move was almost a thousand dollars over their original estimate. what’s more, they kept saying that, after our stuff was picked up, that it would be «today or tomorrow» that it would hit the road, regardless of what day we called. if we checked monday, it would go out «today or tomorrow.» tuesday, «today or tomorrow.» wednesday, «today or tomorrow.» no one would give us a straight answer and by the end, i just never believed anything anyone from walla told me. as time progressed, our delivery date kept getting later and later for no apparent reason, leaving me without any furniture (including my bed) for many days at my new place.
throughout this whole process, no one from walla EVER called us. we always had to call them. unprofessional, untrustworthy, sketchy. at the end of it all, i was left just praying my stuff arrived and then i would never have to communicate with them again.

After I reported this company to the Better Business Bureau they responded angrily, calling me liar. Unreal, what slime balls these people are. They cried about me contacting the BBB and my review on Unilocal. Guess what Walla that’s just scratching the surface. I have also reported them to the department of transportation and several other business web sites as well other social media sites. My lawyer is also ready to file a law suit ASAP if this isn’t issue resolved to my satisfaction.

I worked with Joe at Walla. Joe’s a smooth talker. I described to him exactly where my stuff was going. Before I finalized the decision, I had a couple different options in play. Well Joe changed me for the most expensive option. When I called their billing to correct it, the guy came across as doing me a favor for reversing the changes. Yes, I signed it. I just didn’t realize I had to double check your guys’ shit. Thanks for the lesson.
And it just starts there.
I don’t have a lot of shit. The stuff they moved fits in a cargo van or a 5×5 storage locker. We’re not talking about a 3 bedroom move jobber here. We’re talking about some basic belongings. Kinda pathetic when you think about it for a middle-​aged guy.
They somehow lost a yoga mat. Fine. I’ll stimulate the economy w/​my middle-​class ass and get a new yoga mat.
They broke leg on an Ikea table. $ 20 w/​shipping. OK, kinda starting to suck here.
Oh, hey, look it at the busted serving plate. It was a wedding gift and I’m getting divorced. Fuck it, maybe they’re doing me a favor for not seeing it. But man I liked that plate.
Dunno what tape they used but it’s fused onto the filing cabinet something fierce. Can’t wait to goo-​gone that shit off…
I’m truly amazed at the quality of book bindings. A bunch of my books still have pages attached to the bindings. The bindings are all fucked up, but the pages are still there. Thanks for doing an A+ job packing books. They’re books for Christ sakes. Easiest thing to pack. Instead they looked like they were packed by a 5 yr old dropping them 20 feet up into the box. I can’t for the life of me figure out a simpler explanation as to why they looked that way when I unboxed them.
You know that behind-​the-​door shoe rack you actually did a nice job packing? Yeah, it’s kinda useless w/​o the top parts attached to the door back in Brooklyn. Anyone want a shoe rack?
Satisfied? Only knowing that I had enough karma points to cash some in. Because with all the glass that was just sitting around in the box, not wrapped or anything, just sitting at the bottom of box. I’m truly amazed those didn’t break. It’s not anything they did to ensure the glass wouldn’t break. So I’m assuming it’s some reserved karma points. I guess packing paper is getting expensive?
Walla? Fuck ‘em. Go somewhere else.
