Specialties
Voice Journey Sound Center (VJSC) offers a diverse & cross-cultural array of workshops, webinars, private lessons, community events, and sound healing services to empower your creative expression and enrich your health & well-being with the sound of your own voice.
Sing to FEEL GOOD! Singing to «sound good» often feels like an unattainable goal. Judgement and pre-conceived notions of what «good» sounds like has rendered far too many people silent! Singing to *feel good* can happen instantaneously and open the way for your voice to blossom beyond your wildest dreams.
Our offerings encourage you to think of your voice in a new, empowered context and use your voice in ways that can literally change your life — reduce stress, energize the body, increase mental clarity, improve mood, enhance communication, develop leadership skills, enrich relationships, and boost creativity.
At VJSC, every voice is honored for its uniqueness and helped to grow in the ways that are most beneficial. The accessible tools we share open a path for you to free your voice, refine your self-expression, and promote personal & collective growth.
History
Established in 2013.
Voice Journey Sound Center (VJSC) founder Stephanie Rooker moved to New York City in 2004 and she began her career as a soul-jazz vocalist & composer and private music educator. After years of working with singers of all experience levels, Rooker noticed that certain issues & impediments were surprisingly common among professional vocalists as well as people only beginning to explore their voices. Something fundamental was missing from the approach of teaching & learning about singing.
In 2011, Rooker completed the NY Open Center’s Sound & Music Institute (SMI) Sound & Music Integrative Practitioner Training. Through sustained involvement with SMI and continued study & collaboration with pioneering practitioners in the field of sound healing, Rooker developed the Voice Journey approach for all people to be led by their voices into new realms of creative expression & holistic well-being. VJSC was launched in Aug 2013 as a vehicle to facilitate the multiple dimensions of Voice Journey.
