From an employees perspective– what a wonderful place to work! Everyone is so friendly and truly want to help. I love being able to serve those who have given so much for our country. The store is a great place to shop for literally anything– clothing, snacks, drinks, gifts, etc. Starbucks is brewing on the ground level right by the elevators. Patient and employee wellness center is a rec room and gym on the 16th floor. Cafeteria is what you would expect. Perk– employees have access the Fort Hamilton. Here you can go to the huge gym, which offers a sauna and proportionally small locker room. There are other amenities such as a theater, bowling alley, and outdoor pool(expensive).

My grandfather use to come here many times. The hospital is very clean and the hand soap is amazing. Never crowded in the ER. Make sure to have all the information before stepping inside. Nice and quiet in the ER. Parking is never an issue.

My father went here and died here. He was a WWII veteran. For the exception of one good nurse, I felt the place was sub-par. If you are a senior citizen the staff pretty much expect you to die there. The phone did not work. My father had the opportunity to get into a clinical trial(given at Winthrop). My doctor friends told me that this could be done, and Winthrop concurred. I gave them all the paperwork and they kept putting it off… of course, until it was too late to enter. My dad had a fairly decent doctor at the beginning. After a couple of weeks, she was taken off his case and another doctor in that department was assigned. I could not understand what the new doc said partly due to his extremely thick accent and the fact that he spoke very softly and only used words a medical resident would understand. I wanted to transfer my father but he did not want to go through that. The second doctor only continued to give the same meds as the first hoping to get a different result.(What did Einstein say about insanity?) How did he get out of med school? Now, here’s the insult to injury… my dad, now on a morphine drip to ease his passage, is rudely moved and tossed about to change his bed sheets! The man is dying and in pain and they are changing his bed sheets… the nurses at night are nightmares! And try to get them to do otherwise, they threatened to make me leave. All this crap was before Obama was elected. The palliative care docs are so burnt out. They actually told me I should go home because I was understandably upset. Oh, the head of palliative care, if she’s still there… cold as ice and thinks she’s beyond any minor criticism.(you are there for the patients and their needs… don’t assume you know.)

My Dad was a veteran of the Army and used to let me tag along on his appointments when i was a kid. Everyone inside is kind and accommodating, but it’s a hard place to gain access to these days. They have a pretty fantastic gift shop inside and used to have a Burger King in the food court. Unfortunately you probably won’t be able to get in if you are not a vet, the bus doesn’t even stop inside like it used to back in the day. The one thing most of us in the neighborhood associate with the hospital is the giant red«tree» draped in lights on the front of the building during the Christmas season.
