Two Guys Autoplex

Went for emission test as my registration was expiring. He sold me some bullshit about gas fumes not coming out as some sensor is broken even though there was no check engine sign on and I have pretty new car. I came out of the shop agreeing to do the repair but then I checked Unilocal and went back to take my car for second opinion. He opened the gas knob and told me that the fumes are out and it’ll pass the test in another center but he cannot do it.
Can’t believe I nearly bought that bull shit. Won’t go there ever.

I find it ironic that out of 48 reviews for this den of thieves, all are 1-​star, with three others being 5-​stars and one a 4-​star. What does that tell you? Even with these ringers, Two Thieves Autoplex still only averages 1.5 stars… which basically means that they are the the crusty scum at the bottom of the barrel.
Stay Away! I repeat… STAY AWAY! Run, don’t walk. The only 2 star and up reviews are shills. Remember, one star on Unilocal equals 0 stars. In fact 1 Unilocal star means that a service business is a ripoff joint.
My regular inspection station was out of stickers and needed to have my other car inspected. Unfortunately I wandered into this place, like Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames wandered into the pawn shop. I knew that I was in trouble when they put it on the lift. I’ve never gone to an Inspection where the car was immediately put on the lift.
They told me that I failed because I needed new brake pads and rotors… and it would be $ 800. They told me that they had the parts in stock. Lucky me! I found this fascinating because I had just had brand new Zimmermann Rotors and Akebono brake pads installed two weeks earlier.
I lost $ 37 for a false inspection and consider myself lucky compared to everybody else who got ripped-​off by this shop.
And I just love the responses from some fake customer service woman as well as the questionable owner. Plus, the people who gave them 4 and 5 stars are obviously shills and plants… and should be ashamed of themselves.
Like others, it’s truly mind blowing that this place is still in business. Hopefully they have lost customers because of these Unilocal reviews.
What New York State has done is give this place a license to mint money by allowing them to continue to be a NYS Inspection Station. They are complicit in the crimes that this business perpetuates on the public.
Plus people are lured into this shop by a Groupon «deal». Some deal! Rule of thumb: Whenever you see a local Groupon deal, go automatically to Unilocal before pressing Buy.
Do yourself a favor and do some research… there are a few reputable Inspection shops out there. Ask friends for their mechanic’s name. This place is just a trap for honest, trusting people. Shame on them!

I wish I could give 10 stars to make up for all the bad reviews. I bought a Groupon to get an inspection. From the first phone call to picking up my car I had a wonderful experience. Jorge was professional and knowledgeable. My care wouldn’t past the safety inspection, needed breaks. Because of all the bad reviews, Jorge showed me exactly what I needed. By visual inspection I was definitely in need of new breaks. I price was good with a little extra thrown in. Happy to know there is a reputable auto repair joint in the hood.

I took my car here for inspection. They called me an hour after I dropped my car off and told me that the car had some «issues.» After quoting me $ 700 of repairs, I took the time to look through their Unilocal reviews and realized that their rating is falsely inflated by obviously fake 5 star reviews. Everyone who has actually been to this place rates it 1 star unanimously. I told them not to touch my car and I went to pick it up. They charged me a $ 37 inspection fee and failed my car. My car was also left parked unattended on the sidewalk with the windows down when I arrived.
I took the car somewhere else and it passed and was ready in ten minutes.

*AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS* (literally) this place is ridiculous I took my car in here for inspection and one of the guys started telling me I failed and needed a new everything not to mention with an attitude like it was my fault even though I just had the car checked out and it was fine I was just in need of an inspection he ended up quoting me over $ 1300 dollars for the repairs it needed to pass inspection I told him to save it and fail me but he mentioned I would have my license revoked if i drove it (not true) and ended up throwing my cash away for unnecessary repairs also as soon as I got my car back I noticed the engine light is on and i dont trust them to take it back there these money hungry crooks probably tampered with something to get more money out of me its a shame I didnt do some research first… dont let it happen to you.

If I could give less than one star I would. Save yourself and your wallet a trip because these guys are crooks. I’ve never left a Unilocal review before, but their horrible behavior and trickery were too compelling. Avoid this place at all costs!

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. SO awful that every time I drive by this place, which is a lot (since we live close by), I get the creeps. I have no idea how this place is still open.
Brought my car in for an inspection, over $ 1000 later I left, having felt completely ripped off and totally verbally abused by the owner. And on top of it, after getting FOUR NEW TIRES, I got a flat tire the next day. I told them and they denied any responsibility. Took the car to Subaru dealer and he said they installed it incorrectly.
Just a terrible experience all around. Please, save yourself the trouble. DO NOT GO HERE!

Incredibly dishonest, very rude
Dishonest in a criminal way. Tried to sell me a car that when I checked the carfax, it had 100k miles more on it than he was saying/​showed on the car as well as an active recall on the airbags.

Extremely rude! Owner was not at the place, but the calls route to his cell phone. He told me to come in, so I drove 40 minutes. He didn’t bother mentioning that Google has their wrong address 40 minutes from his new spot. When I drove there there was a line. When I called to complain since he said there was no line he literally cussed at me. Never again! Dude is a jerk!

Not much to add to the other reviews, very similar experience. Accidentally let my inspection sticker expire and went here because they were close by. The put it up on the lift, write up an estimate of over $ 1000 in bogus ‘repairs’ they say it needs to pass inspection. Try some high pressure tactics to try to get me to agree to the repairs. I’m no pushover and tell them I’m getting a second opinion. He gives me a hard time and won’t let me keep the written estimate (since he knows it would be evidence against him if I made a complaint). Didn’t charge me for the inspection either, which is shady because it means that either a) he didn’t actually run the diagnostic or b) he is such a stand-​up guy he paid it out of his pocket. Since I took it to another mechanic and passed the inspection with no problems, no repairs needed, I leave it to you to guess a) or b).
TL;DR — worst ever, don’t go here. I’d give negative stars if I could.

Someone should call the better business bureau because the amount of negative horrifying reviews are scary to say the least, from sexism, to tantrums, to straight up conning people out of their hard earned money. I went here three times to ask for repairs, the first time the owners were having a conversation with someone who looked like a possible dealer and they refused me service. The second time I went there the short owner told me he was full that day. Mind you I was annoyed from the last time they shooed me away, so I said but there’s no cars here, and that seemed to piss him off and he quickly ushered me out of there. Finally after being in a pinch, I forgot to get my inspection sticker this year, so in a rush I had to go back, they are right next to my apartment, but this final third time I went here they asked for $ 900 in repairs in order for my car to pass inspection, and spoiler alert, I refused to and took it down the block where it passed and not only that but the owner of the other place said there was NOTHING wrong with my car!

Douche city. The owner is a con artist (and a misogynist.) I came here for a new battery, somehow got conned into spending $ 600 on a new alternator (made of solid gold?) and they did me the favor of knocking off my rearview mirror AND ripping off my antenna for my troubles (and of course, insisting that the car came in that way.) Also got charged for an oil change that was clearly never completed.
Just thinking my experience at this place, though it was 8 years ago, gives me the creeps. Avoid this memorable experience if you can.

Brought in my car for an inspection. Was told I needed $ 1k of repairs to pass inspection and that my car was dangerous to drive. Took it to my regular auto mechanic (Blue Star Auto down the block) for a second opinion and was told the vehicle was perfectly fine.

Wish i had checked Unilocal reviews first! I had almost the exact same scenario as many other people here. Took my truck here in a pinch and got raped.
Full on professional scammers. They should be shut down.

Zero stars. The owner is very rude, overcharges and ultimately a scam artist. They should be shut down. He will be out is business soon with his poor conduct and cheap parts. The worst experience I have ever had and regret ever pulling into this business.

The guy who runs the shop is a poor businessman… penny wise, pound foolish. Even though I live a block from here and own two older vehicles– I will not take my cars here and tell friends and family to follow suit. Harry’s on Meeker is out of my way but those guys are the real deal.

I wish I could give this place Zero stars. If I’ve ever been to a place that deserves zero stars, THIS PLACE IS IT.
DON’T GO HERE! The owner the place is despicable. I had my car serviced here before a long, 10 hour drive home to Ohio. I had been a customer for 2+ years here and always had an ok experience, probably because I never had to deal with the owner during those years. I had gotten mostly routine stuff done to my car — oil change, wipers replaced, and car wash. I always had to wait but I appreciated being able to sit inside and the fact that they gave free car wash with oil change.
This time though I was going on a long drive to Ohio and wanted to make sure everything was ship shape before I left. They told me I needed a new muffler and various other stuff that just sounded like add-​ons to the layman, but I agreed cause I trusted them. BIG MISTAKE. When I picked up my car everything seemed ok but I live about 8 blocks away so I didn’t have to drive far in town. The next day while in the mountains of Pennsylvania I discover that my AC DOESN’T WORK (and this was over the summer in 80 degree weather).
I paid over 200 (can’t remember the exact amount) and I THOUGHT I had a good relationship with these guys so I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. But the day after I drove to Ohio with NO AC, I called and the mechanic put the owner on the phone soon after I told him the issue and the owner proceeded TO SCREAM AT ME tell me that I was wrong without even listening to what the issues were (there were other stuff too, but the AC was the main thing). And this guy wouldn’t let me get a word in. And finally after getting frustrated I said can you please listen to me, and that made him WORSE! He told to come in when I was back in NYC but that THIS WAS STILL NOT THEIR FAULT. Yeah, right buddy, I’m not bringing my car back to you when you’ve already made your verdict before you’ve even seen it and haven’t listened to me about my issues.

Out of the way, the trip that led me and a buddy to Two Guys
wasn’t planned — he had issues with his defogger and figured
that possibly a quick wash would do the trick. So we rolled into
the place and with the help of one of the techs, got the defogger
fixed quickly. This was without any previous appointment being
made (the dude actually said, ‘nah don’t worry about it, let’s get
this fixed up’.) They even noticed an issue with the brake fluid
on his car and after some quick discussion, my friend got it
fixed with no hassle. The entire trip to Two Guys actually took
45 minutes, which was pretty remarkable considering the wait
at other places. Not a bad pit stop indeed.

One star is being GENEROUS. If I could give them zero or negative stars I would. I just filed a complaint on them through the Better Business Bureau.
I had the same experience many of you had — went there with an expired emissions/​inspection sticker (my regular mechanic was backed up and couldn’t do it), was told I could not pass inspection because I needed new brakes and rotors on all four wheels and that my car was dangerous to drive. Estimated cost of repairs was $ 1,000. Plus they tried to charge me $ 39 and not $ 21 for inspection as per state law. I smelled the BS and said no thanks. My regular mechanic did some routine brake work for $ 250 a few days later but said I passed inspection just fine.
In summary: AVOID THESE SCAMMERS.

Here’s the long and short of it: Don’t go there for your emissions test.
I went in because my preferred mechanic wasn’t available that day. My car is old and not in the best shape, but I had to get it done THAT DAY. So I chanced it on this place.
Although they were friendly, polite and squeezed me in on a Saturday, they also tried to jerk me around with «you can’t pass your inspection without getting all new brakes and rotors». Uh, no.
My brakes may be getting on the old side, but that’s just insane. I took it to the Pep Boys instead, passed the emissions test with flying colors and got a broken tail light fixed (which this place missed and I knew about).
Bottom line: I know you got to make a buck, but this just hurts your reputation.
