Super dope. Super fresh. This place is amazing! Don’t waste your time on stupid bars, this one is REAL!

It’s surprising that a bar doesn’t carry cranberry juice! They were also lacking a lot of the food menu items(which is limited solely to cheese and olives). Overall the space is beautiful but the atmosphere and the service was a little lackluster. The cheeses that they did have were delicious, though!

We popped into Troost for a quick beer during happy hour while we were waiting for our laundry. They had decent prices on beer, but something about the vibe of the place just seemed off. It was an okay place to grab a drink, but I probably wouldn’t make it my only destination of the night.

First time coming here so I can’t comment on the revamp and seemingly tragic death of the daytime café setup. The outdoor seating is nice — kinda rustic, like you’re chilling out in a garden — but you also risk having ants crawling surreptitiously over if not near your food, especially when you order a meat & cheese board that includes caramel-drizzled apple slices. I actually killed one and didn’t feel bad at all about it. I got an IPA and it was pretty decent(actually wanted to try the Duvel but they didn’t have it on tap that day. boo). The downside to sitting in the backyard is being near smokers. So choose your table wisely. There’s a «no laptop» sign? I still saw a dude with a laptop sitting in the yard. I guess it’s not that strongly enforced.

Stop the bitching, everyone complaining about Troost becoming solely a bar. It is a business… not a place that is there for YOUR whim, and the owners clearly thought this was a better future for their business. There are PLENTY of places around the neighborhood to go work on your awful screenplay for hours while only spending 3 bucks on a coffee. Let me enjoy some live music, a dope backyard, and some fantastic drink specials(Gansett/shot for $ 6). This is a solid mellow little place. Love it.

My favorite daytime and nighttime spot… until…they stopped being a café in the day serving the most amazing egg sandwiches, La Colombe iced Americanos AND a bar in the evening, with happy hour starting at 4 and lasting until 7. The Golden Hours. I came here for years in the morning and for years in the evening. I wrote my book during the day and laughed with friends in the eve. I picked up my CSA here for godsakes. It was a true neighborhood gem with just enough mystery and candlelight to be a place you wandered into and would remember. I am saddened by the loss of Troost as a café. Somehow my moving out of the neighborhood was oddly timed with their departure into Just Another Bar Hood. Sigh. At least I won’t miss GP as much anymore – and I would, knowing they were open all day. It would be 5 stars but now it is 1. *sigh*

You broke my heart when you stopped opening your doors in the AM. I have worked hard to come to terms with losing my all-time favorite place to work and write, I am sure your reasons were just. But I simply do not feel you as a bar. Who you are really meant to be, deep down, is a daytime delight. And I would burst from all the joy I’d feel if you’d roll back your hours just a bit, even only for the summer, and let me bask in the glorious outdoors with a breakfast sandwich again. Until then, it will be fond memories and healthy distance.

I love the Gansett with a shot deal here, and I like the fact that they’re turning this place around to be more of a bar now. The«no laptops» sign makes sense since people would just sit in here for hours and not order anything while they wrote their crappy screenplays. The back yard rocks and the staff is nice. Dave is the best. Overall, great little spot in GP to grab some drinks and chill out in the yard.

Bugsy Siegel once said that stealing is a form of rape. Like Bugsy, I too had something stolen from me, my cold brew from TROOST. This comes at the decision of the owner, who feels that it makes sense to turn this café/bar into just a bar. Great. Another bar, just what Greenpoint needs. This place had an advantage over every other coffee bar in the area, you could get cold brew at any hour, no matter what the season. So, it is with a heavy heart that I must declare TROOST a dead destination. It’s now just another bar. End of story. RIP dear friend. It was great while it lasted.

Am I supposed to grow some insanely bizarre beard to come here. WTF? All the dudes here are so… hairy! 5 bucks for an average tasting latte. No laptops after 4pm and on the weekends. Really?

I come here all the time with my husband. The food is light and well made. I never feel as though I’ve over eaten. Though I’m not a coffee drinker, said husband loves their espresso drinks. The restaurant itself is fairly dimly lit. This can make it a little difficult to read if that’s what you’re planning. The back yard however, is very nice. There’s loads of seating and your surrounded by trees and potted plants. It makes for a very relaxing Sunday afternoon.

I bought the groupon because it was lose to home. Didn’t expect much but they surprised me with an awesome cheese plate and my favorite wine. Would definitely come back.

Don’t let their happy hour fool you! They advertise $ 3 drafts, but when you go in they pour you half pints. Doesn’t seem like happy hour to me, just a reasonably charged half pint of beer.

Things that I love: 1) the backyard — pretty big & beautiful; 2) cold brew coffee — it comes out of a tap; 3) soft boiled eggs — didn’t even know that was a thing & learned how to eat it here. Now, thanks to Troost, I will always have that memory & a new skill.

Love this place! I’ve only visited once but will be frequenting it now that I know how great it is. We dropped in after a long evening in manhattan to grab a drink and check out the space. It’s super cozy and has a good amount of seating. The staff at the bar were super friendly and nice. We checked out the back patio and I was so impressed by how beautiful it is! Kind of reminded me of Urth Café over on the west coast but of course with Brooklyn’s charm. There was tons of quaint seating with beautiful lighting and seating for either small groups or larger parties. We enjoyed our drinks(noticed the drink menu is extensive and definitely cheaper than other places) and were happy to learn they still served food. I had the manchego tomato sandwich while he had the brisket and both were delicious! Good portion sizes, top notch ingredients, and beautifully presented. I’ve been craving a place like this since I first moved to NYC4 years ago. Something quaint, good quality, friendly service, open late, and with few crowds. Troost makes me think I may have finally found it!

Baristas can be somewhat aloof but the food I’ve tried has always been fresh and seasoned well. Back garden is a lovely setting to relax and have a quiet drink. Hands down the best aspect of Troost and what really separates it from its neighborhood competitors? Their glorious, heavenly cold brew, which is ONTAP. And refills are only a buck. What a gem.

The place may look small, but there is a hidden patio out back and a welcoming vibe on busy nights – the mood guided along like Sherpa by the reasonable prices and the quality of the drinks. Not the best for a large group if you’re there when the patio is closed, but good for a group of 3 – 6. The food menu is simple and light, not your usually bar/pub fair at all. I order their sandwiches and appreciate that the size is reasonable(unlike most places in our country where they pile on meat and ignore the veggies – seriously, wtfm?) and they are served with a little green leafy goodness on the side. I had a beer and a sandwich and salad – all for like 12 including everything. Awesome.

A friend who lives in the area invited me by for a beer. At first I was impressed with the reasonable prices when then I got the tinniest beer I’ve ever seen. Crowd was iffy as well. I see no reason to go back.

This is a nice addition to the neighborhood, and for the most part a friendly staff. The guy behind the bar is always cool. Side note– they shut their wifi off at 5. I came to have a good beer and finish up some work and that was a fail. In the summer though an iced coffee in the backyard was perfect.

I enjoyed my time here. I was stuck here waiting for a friend for little while. The lighting was low and mysterious and in the evening they put out tea lights. The Wi-Fi has gotten better since some of the reviews that were posted. I was a little weary at first because of the bed Wi-Fi reviews. There are random extension cords with outlets hidden. You just have to look for it. They had tiny items whether it was snacks or drinks. I had ordered a cappuccino and pickled beets. The beets were nice and … Well, pickled. The cappuccino kept me going for a while. Everything is a few dollars here and there but it all adds up. They have a happy hour deal and some beers to offer.
