The Little Pet Store

This place is so flaky. They say they open at 11:30 on their door, but today is the third time this month I’ve gotten there at noon only to be met with a closed door. I even hung around at a coffee shop for twenty minutes. They never opened. This happens all the time. It’s also super annoying that they don’t have an answering machine so I can’t call leave a message asking them to call when they actually open.
Also, they stopped carrying the litter we use. When we asked them why, they said they hadn’t discontinued it, it was just in transit. That was seven months ago. So they’re lying.
I really wish there were another option in the neighborhood.

I love this place, they are small and friendly and holistic. They only have the basics but it keeps your life simple, in and out without wandering forever through aisles, like at Petco (ugh). And no depressing caged/​farmed animals for sale. They have a cool tiger stripe shop-​cat that is pretty amenable to being petted!

Worst pet store in the area. The staff is unaware of what products they carry, putting my pet’s health in danger. Management is unreachable. Very disappointed.

Great pet store in williamsburg ! Recently move to nyc and visited them today, the owner/​groomer are very helpful and friendly she helps me find the perfect food for my picky dog and he loves it. They have a great selections of holistic pet food and they also does grooming, I’ll definely bring my dog there for a hair cut soon !

Nice selection of food for such a small place. Prices are about average. Will visit again.

My little Pomeranian is in love with the attention he gets here. They really do a wonderful job and take time to groom him just the way we like it. Unfortunately it’s some time hard to get an appointment since the girl doing the grooming is not always there :(

The first time I brought Diego my wire fox terroir, she, the groomer, did a great job. The second time I brought Diego my dog she gave my wire fox terroir a Schnauzer haircut. I had a cab waiting outside so I really didn’t look at my dog but when I got home I was shocked. I still can’t believe he looks as he does. I called the shop right away and told them how disappointed I was. The man who answered the phone gave me an appointment for Thursday, Two days later. I called on Wednesday to see if they might have something that day and he said no. 20 minutes later the owner/​groomer called me back and said that that’s how they cut wire fox terrier’s hair and if I wanted to come back I would have to pay again. I told her what a wonderful job she had done the first time and how disappointed I was with the fact that he looked nothing like a wire fox terroir the second time around. She repeated herself three times. «that’s how we cut wire foxes hair, if You want to bring him back You will have to pay again». My expectations would not have been so high or my let down so great if she hadn’t done such a great job the first time. It makes no Sense at all to me how or why the business owner/​groomer would not try to correct a mistake and show some kind of remorse for screwing up the haircut. She obviously knew what she was doing the first time. So what happened? This groomer/​business owner has no business being a groomer. In addition she has very poor business sense. Readers be warned.

Love this place !! nice little neighborhood pet spot, took my husky there for grooming, at first when i call they said they are not grooming dogs over 45LB, and my husky was 50lbs but he really need a groom, and i live around the corner from them, been buy dog food there regularly, so the groomer know who we are after i told her, and she is so nice to take my dog in. they did a great job, nice cut, and good price, didnt over charged like the other places, they are the best !! we will definaly be coming back here !!!

So earlier today I wrote a 3-​star review about the Little Pet Store. My only complaint being a lack of follow up from the current management about fulfilling a special order for me. Well, just as any good hard-​working local shop should, they pulled through.
For reasons outside of there control (shipment issues & employee changes) I had slipped through the cracks, but they realized the fault and successfully did what the could to fix the situation within the same day. It wasn’t the exact food I had ordered, (most likely better) but more importantly I appreciate the effort and the sentiment. THANK YOU for doing what you do guys!

Smelled like cat pee. Lots of cat pee.
Girl helping me was friendly, but did not know her product. She tried to tell me that one food was made the same as another, which I know was not true… it is owned by the same company (taken over over a year ago), but it is absolutely NOT the same food or food formula!!!
NO PRICE TAGS. It sucks. I want to know prices where i shop… would you go to a grocery store and just grab whatever? and what consumer wants to keep asking the price for every item?
same sweet girl also doesn’t listen. It’s ok that she had her opinion on things, but when I actually pointed out to her that the info she gave me on food was wrong (and pups with sensitive stomachs could greatly be affected by a switch in food BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT THE SAME FOOD), she kept trying to debate it. even if she thinks i’m wrong, which is her perogative, why did she need to debate it??? just quietly think in your head «f you, customer» and let it be. don’t try to start a debate!

other girl working there was sweet, and she had much better customer service skills.

These guys are great. knowledgeable, delivery is fast and they are just super nice.

This is a great pet shop.
I feel ilke a bastard. I don’t ever get the best thing for my cat. In fact, often times I’ll try to get the cheapest «decent’ food, litter, or litterbox. I kinda feel guilty, but I just dont’ think my cat who survives outdoors just fine needs the finest amenities in life. She’s a trooper.
Anyways, I was thinking the store owner would give me the stink face, or try to «up-​sell» me on something better; but no. He gave me exactly what I wanted: not the best, not the worst; and all of that with a genuine smile, while I was expecting a smile of derision.
Also, the cat in there is super cute, and super friendly. It started to attack my coat. Adorable.

The facts:
— Very small, but they have the essentials.
— The worker was super helpful and ridiculously friendly on my visit. He helped me pick out a bag of cat treats. I think he said he has a cat of his own, so that earns him extra bonus points from me.
— They are holistic.

If you love your dog do NOT bring him to this godforsaken place. I honestly could of took a scissor at home and of done a better job then she did on my Yorkie. He looked butchered. The cut wasn’t anywhere near even, some patches were longer then the other it was just a mess. If I told anyone that I’d just come from the groomer they’d think I was lying. I also asked for him not to be cut too short and that request was thrown out the window because she just shaved all of his hair off. When she brung him out i inmediately told her iI wasn’t happy with the cut her response was «it’s hair, it’ll grow back». I’m BEYOND disappointed. I’d rather pay a few bucks more and just take him someplace where they actually know what they’re doing.

I LOVE dropping by for my cat Dinah’s supplies. Yes it is small. But I use it sorta like a pet food bodega. The owners Steve and Alana are big sweethearts! Their prices are competitive and if you find something too high, just buy it somewhere else. That’s what I do.
As for April Dawn, she sounds like a nasty piece of work and the kind of snotty newbie to the neighborhood that is ruining Williamsburg! Honestly, who but a spoiled Trustefarian has time to write a 1000+ word review? And she mentions that she showed up in 40 mins after saying she would arrive in 30! You were late to the appointment then took an hour and a half to pick your pooch up! It is natural that the salesperson got worried because people don’t normally BOARD their dogs when they take them for a bath! Really people, don’t use Unilocal to write lies about businesses that you’ve disrespected! And especially don’t do so and describe your own bad behavior. It just makes you look stupid!
And when you drop in, make sure to hang with the adorable kitten-​in-​residence, Tiger! He is the best!

I’m really glad that I decided to visit this place more than once before I wrote a review. My yorkie, Frankie, has been here two or three times for grooming, his last (and by last I mean most frequent AND last as in never again) visit was last night.
I called for an appointment and was able to get in the same day, which almost never happens. They asked me to be there in half an hour. I told them I was on my way. Forty minutes later, I am a few blocks away, walking there, when I get a phone call asking where I am.
I leave my pup, confident that he’ll come out looking beautifully groomed as he did the last few times.
About an hour and half/​two hours later, I get a call telling me that he was finished. I told her I was leaving my chiropractor in the city and I would be on my way. It took me an hour and a half to get there. In that hour and a half, the girl (I think she’s relatively new, I’ve never seen her before) called me again and left me a very awkward and RUDE voicemail in which she was basically stating she needed to know if I was going to pick up my dog or not. Are you serious??? You really think I abandoned him? It was nowhere NEAR close to their closing time either. And the reason I didn’t answer the phone wasn’t because I was dodging calls to «abandon» my dog, it was BECAUSE I WAS ON THE TRAIN UNDERGROUND ON MY WAY TO PICK HIM UP.
Immediately upon hearing that message, I call the girl to inform her that I was on my way to get my dog, and I made no bones about it to let her know I was very insulted by her message; I found it to be unprofessional in the very least. She then explained to me that they charged $ 10 for every hour your pup was left there because «it’s not a dog sitting service; we charge extra for that». I informed her that I’ve never heard of this policy before and Frankie has been there one or two other times. She told me it was okay this time. However, when I got there, I was charged $ 55 instead of the standard $ 45. I hurried up and just paid it to get out of there because Frankie was whining and squirming something awful; i suspected he had to go to the bathroom very badly. On my way out, I asked her if they walk the dogs if they show visible signs of discomfort that they need to go to the bathroom; she told me no, because «it’s not a dog walking service» and «it is $ 15 extra if you want your dog to be walked». (Oh okay, so if my dog was to go to the bathroom in the cage and required another bath, would I have to pay double for grooming?) Given the incredibly SMALL size of the place and the way they rush people in and out, there’s no way he had such a HUGE number of dogs in there that he couldn’t walk a 4 lb yorkie to let him do his business.
Frankie looks great; I certainly hope they are kinder to the dogs than they are to the people.
That girl was incredibly awkward, smartass, and rude for no reason. She really needs some training in customer service; for her sake, I’m glad that this place isn’t in «the hood» in Brooklyn, because she’d probably end up getting smacked around. I have never EVER dealt with a groomer who made me feel more uncomfortable, awkward, rushed, and like a huge inconvenience to them. In fact, what business makes the customer feel like an inconvenience to them WHEN WE ARE THE REASON THE DOORS STAY OPEN?!!
Great grooming… piss poor people skills; no patience. Unfortunately for this place, the «people» are the ones who pay the bills, so maybe they should consider being a bit nicer to people willing to spend money with them.

So besides being less than the size of my bedroom, the selection is obviously pretty small. The employees were sort of awkward but attempted to be helpful none the less. The screeching dog downstairs wasn’t too reassuring of anything but if I’m ever too lazy to walk all the way to NYC pet, they definitely get the job done. A bit more expensive tho but overall good selection of food.

This little Pet Shop has very big prices! in my opinion anyway… I wanted to bring my dog in for some grooming but looks like they do not have the patience nor the staff to deal with my big black lab. A friend of mine did bring her little poodle and sorry to say that they hurt him while grooming him. Lucy Lucky Dogs take my big baby any day… and at a fair price!

I love this spot!
They make my smelly little monster pup into the glorious prince that he is! And they don’t laugh at me (at least not while I am still in there) when I pick out some dumb little bow that my dog all of a sudden «needs» to have in his hair RIGHT NOW!!!
I also got him a lion halloween costume last year and he wore it allllll winter as his coat. He is a weirdly shaped mixed breed so nothing ever fits him proper. This coat did and he got a million compliments on it and I added probably about 500 photos of him in it on my iphone. Too friggggin cute. They carry insanely amazing fashion-​y clothes for your pets and somehow you’ll fin yourself leaving with a plaid dog tie, a bomber jacket, a dinosaur pajama set, a rainslicker and/​or a bed shaped like a giant animé strawberry. With sparkles.
