The Gallery Players

this is a not so well kept secret in Brooklyn. I have seen many shows. It is a tradition to see a show here each year for mthers. This mothers day we saw evita. The actors were top notch as was the staging etc. A great broadway experience without the broadway pricing.

Small company that shows off-​broadway musicals. We went there to see Next to Normal– it was a very intimate experience.
It was full yet we were around 80 ppl. I’d highly recommend Next to Normal and the tickets are $ 18 per show.

I recently came to see the «Pajama Game» and although it’s listed as «off-​off-​broadway» the production and experience was definitely not. Although it’s small, the Gallery Players make you feel like you have been welcomed into their home to see a show and be one of the family for a few hours. The space is creatively used, and although it reminded me of high school, it reminded me of the good things of that time. Looking forward to another show at the Gallery Players.

Well, shoot. Just found this book marked at the bottom of my list and its a darn shame that I have forgotten about reviewing The Gallery Players…
{Wayyy back last year!} the hubs and I scored free tickets thanks to Unilocal {BK Edition} and attended a performance of A Raisin in the Sun. While it was a little out of our way, it was still easy enough to get to being just a short walk from the R or F trains.
First impressions were both of us exchanging looks saying «are we in the right place?» I had read that it was a school (or former school) but I figured they’d upgraded a bit. Nope. After standing outside for a few we were welcomed by a staffer who invited us into the smallest vestibule ever. And I guess when I say vestibule I mean landing. Because if you took 3 steps in either direction and you were headed up/​down stairs. Once our names were checked off we headed downstairs to the actual theater and found some seats. There was no assignment, no seat #‘s, its a first come first serve kind of thing.
After scoring some sweet aisle seats about 2 rows back we settled in. The show ended up being amazing! The actors were phenomenal, each character coming alive on the stage. You can absolutely tell that these actors are truly dedicated to their craft and because of that I’d definitely come back {free tickets or not!}.
A few other notes:
— Intermission lasted about 15 minutes or so and a concession stand is set up in the corner serving up drinks (bottles of water, etc) and snacks.
— The theater room is small. So there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.
— With all those people in one small room it got pretty warm pretty quick. Wear layers if you can.

Very enjoyable! Nice little theater in Park Slope. I saw Company and A man of no Importance there. Well acted and so reasonably priced. Go there if you can!

I too scored tickets from Unilocal to Wonderful Town and since my daughter is a musical theatre major, it was a great mommy daughter event for us. The vast majority of the actors were fantastic, very high energy and engaging and the songs were really well done. The set was great despite it being a pretty small theater.
We would definitely go back to see more musicals here.

A cozy little community theatre tucked in the basement of a building that looks like a school (or that it was a school) The Gallery Players were a plucky bunch of guys and gals that put together a good show.
Thanks to Unilocal,I saw It’s a Wonderful Town at this theatre and was transported back to my days in high school musicals. The cast was earnest and did a great job with the resources provided them. The pit orchestra was well conducted but the talents varied; the trombonist was particularly gifted but the man playing the woodwinds/​flute was often out of sync with the small group and sharp. I loved some of the songs, but the play often dragged. Some of the dialogue and cultural references were very dated and the director chose not to update it.
The stage itself is quite small but the actors chose to break the fourth wall and mingle among the audience. One old lady in the front row had the most adorable freak out at some of the dancers. It was worth coming here for that.
There’s stadium, bleacher seating with painfully uncomfortable folding chairs lined up. Every seat has a good view, since it is such an intimate space.

I love independent theaters and this exuded a lot of personality. It is a small theatre, but so so genuine. I felt like I was back in high school, about to watch «Bye Bye Birdie.» The seats reminded of bleacher seats at an indoor gym, but they were comfortable!
They also have a concession stand to get drinks, chocolate, coffee and tea.
I really enjoyed the musical! High caliber singing, acting, dancing and entertaining. I like that the actors also used parts of the seating area as the stage, it made the musical very personable and you could see everything clearly.
I will definitely be coming back for more shows. What can I say? Brooklyn rocks!

The productions here are creatively done and a consistent feature is the keen eye to details. Given the intimate size of the space, casts and crews are in their creative element as they maximize every inch of floor, wall, and air space of the theater. The result is entertaining productions that preserve the ingenuity and inventive spirit of New York theater.
The tickets are more than reasonably priced ($ 18!), making a show at the gallery players a viable family or date night for just about anyone, and isn’t accessibility what off-​off broadway is all about?
In other words, GO! You will not regret it, and you are likely to find a special new cultural escape for yourself without the high maintenance feeling of Times Square.

Location wise, The Gallery Players can be a blessing or a curse depending on where you live. But for a small fee ($ 18) the commute is well worth the time as this theater will prove itself as a top contender among quality shows that you think you’ll only find in the city.
I’ve came here twice to see «Oliver Twist» and «The Little Dog Laughed» and both time my experience was absolutely amazing! Given the fact that this intimate theater is located in the basement of an elementary school, the production was anything but. In fact, the stage was very well designed and the actors were surprisingly talented and captivated the audience’s attention.
It’s general seating so it’s pretty much first come first serve, but being that this is a small theater any seating will suffice especially since the distant between actors and audience isn’t much. Personally, I prefer it this way because when I was there, it allowed me to really see the subtle expressions that I would normally not see on a larger scale. All in all, this small production company is a definitely must as it delivers ongoing top notch seasonal shows that are memorable and that are seriously well put together.

This is an unassuming community theatre in Park Slope. My parents saw a play here years ago and are still on the mailing list. They bought my boyfriend and I tickets as a present (only 18 bucks each!). We went without high expectations but we left loving this place. Everything has a kind of budget feel to it – like you’re going to a play in some tiny town where all the church ladies volunteer to take tickets and bake food for intermission. We saw Reefer Madness which was completely amazing – singing, dancing, choreography, all excellent. Giant brownies at intermission were two bucks each. It was a completely affordable afternoon and we’ll probably be back to check out new performances since it’s within walking distance of our place.

Good stuff! I found them years ago when I was called in to audition for their production of VIOLET. I didn’t get the role, but I had a really nice time working with their staff and was introduced to a space that I wanted to work in. So I’ve kept after them over the years and have seen multiple productions.
They provide quality entertainment at a decent rate. They also offer some really awesome raffle options for audience members.
The theater itself isn’t in the easiest location for most folks to commute to… but it’s worth the trip. Just make sure to arrive early since seating is on a first come, first served basis. They won’t over sell and don’t have any obstructed viewing seats… but you may have to split up your party if it’s a full house and you try to squeeze in before curtain time.
This is also good to note since they don’t mic the actors. They’re usually really awesome about casting people with projecting power. But the closer to the stage you sit, the better to ensure hearing everything.
Also make sure to hit up concessions as soon as you arrive. They offer a decent spread but with limited quantities. So get it while it’s hot!
