The Chocolate Room

Wonderful place w/​honest excellent quality deserts. They suggest wines Etc for each desert I wish there were places like this everywhere. Everything is homemade including the excellent whipped cream.

Desserts sampled in order of preference (as voted by a group of 4 ladies). I think the reason brownie sundae was the favorite is because of the warm brownie that accompanied the ice cream. A few of us actually ordered some to take home for our significant others. Otherwise the chocolate layer cake was moist and decadent without being too rich and heavy.
The custard and almond cake could easily be tied for last place. Even outside a comparison to the sundae and chocolate cake, these two simply would not satisfy any sweet tooth sugar craving. We all had different preferences — cakey, creamy, crunchy, sweet/​salty — and these two did nothing for us. Two misses from a menu with probably a lot more hits!
BROWNIE SUNDAE A warm, fresh brownie with your choice of homemade ice cream, hot fudge, and fresh whipped cream. Topped with a fresh cherry (seasonal), or a brandied cherry.
CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE «A luscious and perfect three-​layer blackout cake.» — O Magazine.
BLACK BOTTOM BUTTERSCOTCH A layer of bittersweet chocolate lies beneath creamy butterscotch custard, topped with fresh coconut whipped cream, and a chocolate wafer.
CHOCOLATE CHIP ALMOND CAKE Glazed in dark chocolate. Served warm with our caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
My drink of choice was the frozen hot dark chocolate. I needed to try it to compare it to another famous frozen hot chocolate drink, and I prefer the other. Next time I’ll try a hot drink.
NOT HOT (seasonal) A frozen version of our Classic or Dark Hot Chocolates blended with ice, and topped with fresh whipped cream.

Awesomeness!!! I expected the cake to be rich and dense; the cake was in fact so light, fluffy, with the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. The hot chocolate — just heaven! Complete overdose on chocolate! Worth it!

I was conveniently reminded today by Facebook that I visited The Chocolate Room about two years ago (circa May 2013) and it is still a highlight and recommended Must Stop of my trip to Brooklyn. My friend and I walked for what seemed like miles to get to this little bit of heaven.
I remember it was super dark inside and it was pretty loud so having a conversation wasn’t easy, but I think it’s nearly impossible to complain about a place whose business is amazing chocolate and booze. That’s it. Simple and sweet, quite literally.
It was hard to make a selection, but I ended up with a glass of moscato and the flourless chocolate cake, so rich and decadent. Served with raspberry framboise sauce, and topped with fresh whipped cream. I don’t remember what my friend had, but I want to say it was the either the pudding or the butterscotch and it was marvelous. I considered getting the chocolate layer cake, which Oprah said is: «A luscious and perfect three-​layer blackout cake.» — O Magazine, February 2007.
Before leaving, we also bought a handful of their beautiful chocolates. The Sophie (Marzipan lemon ganache) was by far my favorite! We enjoyed them the next morning on the long trade ride to the Newark airport. Again, this place was and has been a highlight from my trip to the area. Highly recommend stopping in! You deserve it.
It’s a little pricey (at least for a Midwest girl) but I see it as a place to treat yourself. Our waiter was also very knowledgable and helpful.

Omg, what can I say. The Chocolate Room is absolutely sinful in a great way. The chocolate ice cream, Phenominal. I had to go back and buy another. It was just that tasty and rich.
My chai tea, a tad different from my normal but overall, good.
I will be back for more.

I have been to this cute dessert eatery quite a few times after I have eaten dinner at Spice and I enjoy it every single time. The décor is lovely and I like the chocolate smelling aroma as I walk into the establishment. I have enjoyed their nice, thick and creamy strawberry milkshakes on a warm summer evening as well as their hot chocolate on a cold fall/​winter night. I have also tried some of the wine as they have a nice dessert as well as wine menu. Equally as enjoyable as far as ambiance are dining tables since they each have a cute candle and a flower on each of them. Great place to take a date or to take a group of people!

Service: 4 stars. Everyone was SO friendly when we arrived, allowed us to sit wherever we wanted because no one else was there, immediately started us off with waters and a complimentary chocolate. I was very impressed by how we were treated. We also ordered a hot chocolate to share and they were kind enough to give us two cups with two different marshmallows! This was very thoughtful and kind of them. The only reason it’s 4 instead of 5 for service is because we waited for longer than we wanted for a check.
«Drinking» chocolate: 2 stars. Sadly, this was not drinking chocolate as listed on the menu. This was hot chocolate. It wasn’t that far off from powder cocoa mixed I’ve had in the past. Drinking chocolate is basically thick melted chocolate, but this was by no means drinkable chocolate. The best part about it was the marshmallow for sure, which was definitely housemade.
Interior: 4 stars. There was natural light, marble tables, fresh flowers on the table, and an overall pleasing aesthetic. Also, my favorite part was that they had lovely bathrooms. This was not easy to come by in NYC, so we were super thankful.
I really wanted to love The Chocolate Room. In fact, we even made a special trip to Brooklyn JUST to try the hot chocolate there. However, despite the excellent service and cute décor, it fell short. I would definitely consider coming back in the future, but for one of the many other dessert items on their menu.

Friends, if I could live here, I would. I wish I bought every single item on the menu. This place will leave me dreaming about their brownie sundae for months.
Also, the staff is super friendly! Bet was amiable and let me chill out for as long as I wanted :)

Is surely a great spot to go when you need that chocolate fix. Revisited and had the spicy dark hot chocolate on a brisk windy day and boy did it warm me up quick.

Brûléed banana split? Enough said.
Dessert was tasty. Service was a bit slow.
The flavour combinations of their confections were very interesting and sounded like they would be good — raspberry-​cayenne, dark chocolate blood orange, etc. I didn’t get to try any unfortunately.
I’m not even a big fan of chocolate but it was still a fun spot to visit.

Got three desserts to go on Valentine’s Day. All were great, but disappointed that they don’t take American Express cards!

The chocolate Room.
Each time I hear this name I think of Willy Wonka. Trust me, this «room» is by far a more grown up version. Sort of.
I think it an ideal date spot even if like me you aren’t a fan of chocolate. The dinning area at the back is cozy and classy without an once of ostentation.
I was there with a male friend IT WAS NOT A DATE and I really tried to get into all this sweetness (the shop not the guy). Staff, from cashier to server was very obliging. We went in to get a takeaway box but ended up getting a table. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his cake and ice cream, both chocolate. He said it was out of this world rich and creamy and great! He kept making a weird noise with each spoonful so I imagined how good.
Like I said, you don’t have to be a chocolate fan to enjoy the ambience of this place. Feel free to bring your favorite novel and spend some time in this quiet, chocolate haven. I total recommend. Like totes.

I feel like the name is quite gimmicky, but it is what it is.
Upon walking in you see the case of chocolates and just want everything in it. The hostess greeted us and we asked to be seated since we wanted desserts. She led us to the back and we were seated by the window, it was really cozy there.
The waitress was super nice and gave good recommendations. We went with a spiced dark hot chocolate and the popular brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream. The hot chocolate was really good! It was thick, the way I prefer it, and the spice gave it a nice after kick. The sundae was amazing too. Should’ve gotten my own, but it’s not exactly cheap here so we shared.
Worth the visit, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

I must tell you about the brownie sundae I ate at the Chocolate Room.
I must tell you so you can order it immediately.
This is the kind of brownie sundae you’ll want to put your face in. The brownie is warm and soft, the ice cream is creamy and delicious, the cherry and chocolate syrup are on point, and all together it’s a gooey, dreamy mess.
The back dining room where we sat was also adorable.
I wish I could give a 5^th star but at a chocolate restaurant with a chocolate drink menu, I expect chocolate martinis/​cocktails — but they only serve wine and beer.
The staff was courteous overall but our waitress was a bit aloof.
Otherwise, a great experience and certainly worth the waistline damage!

Loved the atmosphere and the cute layout of this shop. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by a beautiful case of wonderful sweets and chocolates. In the back is where customers can sit down and order off their dessert menu. We got the brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream and the spiced dark hot chocolate with the homemade marshmallow.
Although the both were a bit pricey, they were really rich. The spiced dark chocolate had a nice kick to it that doesn’t hit you right away and the giant marshmallow made it that much more decadent.
The sundae was to die for. That brownie was so warm and gooey and the ice cream is not your standard vanilla ice cream. One could almost finish it by herself, but it is totally shareable.
This is definitely worth checking out to satisfy your sweet tooth. Even if it is just to pick up a few items to go.

Cute chocolate spot. We went with one person who doesn’t like to drink alcohol and prefers sweet drinks. Another person who does enjoy alcohol. The chocolate room it is! They serve both. And… The have spiked hot chocolate (Kahlua). The best of both worlds!
The drinks we got, the classic hot chocolate and the One and Owney spiked hot cocoa were good and very satisfying, but not amazing.
I got the impression that they were understaffed tonight as the drinks took a while to be served. Extra points to the server who gave us chocolate ganache to make up for the wait! Classy move.
They also sell local chocolate such as Mast Brothers chocolate. Nice!

After having dinner around the corner, my fiancé decided to take me to The Chocolate Room, knowing that I have a mind of a fat person and still have plenty of room for dessert after chowing down a huge, unhealthy dinner. I was excited, because the name speaks for itself The-​Chocolate-​Room! We walked in to a dark space with a decent line of people waiting to be seated and another line of customers hovering over the chocolate displays waiting for their take-​out orders to be taken. It was all a huge mess, with no particular order. When we were next in line (for a table), two customers who arrived after us were seated before us, leaving us cluelessly and extremely confused. Two other customers (one pregnant) also walked right in and seated themselves at the bar. After discovering this, a staff informed them that they can’t seat themselves and asked us whether we’d like a table or the bar. If we had chosen the latter, the two ladies who sat themselves down would’ve had to give up their seats to us. There was no way we would’ve asked a pregnant lady to give us her seat…
When we finally got situated, we found ourselves sitting in a rather tight space next to an arguing couple. It was uncomfortably entertaining. We were then handed menus by a sweet staff and went with the homemade sumatran coffee and mint chocolate ice cream with a dark hot chocolate. Neither of us were satisfied with the ice cream. I am not an ice cream connoisseur but it lacked the creaminess that good ice cream should possess. Moreover, the dark hot chocolate was so dense and concentrated, it tasted like a cup of melted dark chocolate. There was no way we could’ve drank it right then and there.
I didn’t leave as a happy customer.

My friend has had this place bookmarked for long so we decided to give a try as this was on our way back home (after a long lunch haha). Actually this is my first time coming to a dessert place which specialized in chocolate. From chocolate drinks, to cakes, and even beer with chocolate or float! Amazing.
Just to make sure we got the right order, we went with the signature chocolate sundae (they even have that drawn outside on the board!). It was good for share. You could also choose the type of ice cream (we got coffee and it mixed itself well with the cake underneath).
Their backyard was also lovely.

The only thing that bothers me is they bring you a sample chocolate almond cake contraption before you order anyhthing and its absolutley amazing. They just don’t sell it YET.
All in all great romantic place.

Chocolate room or room of chocolate? You tell me!
I shared the flourless cake and affogato. I’ve had affogato in Italy and I would say this place was pretty true to its name. The espresso was really strong, the ice cream definitely balanced out the bitterness. The chocolate cake was definitely sinful. It was dense and rich when it comes to the amount of chocolate in it.
They also offer free samples when you walk in. The front of the shop sells chocolates and the back offers a dine in seating area for desserts and drinks.
Definitely the spot to go to for dessert after meals or an afternoon pick me up.
