Ted Rothstein, DDS PhD

Dr. Ted and his staff have always made us feel comfortable with the treatment plan, and we have seen results already. He offers Sunday appointments which are super convenient and is always available for questions, concerns etc. He seems genuinely interested in his patients and treats teeth like artwork. In addition to getting braces, my daughter had the gum removal surgery and says this about her experience, «I recently had the laser gum removal surgery. Right now my teeth look great. The process itself didn’t hurt Dr. Ted and Brian were very careful constantly making sure I was alright. My gums did hurt and bleed during the recovery process yet once healed which took about a week they were fine and look much better than before.» We are very pleased with him and the office!

Dr. Ted did my braces 12 years ago and my teeth still looks great today. He did such a great job, I brought my 13 year son back for his braces. Excellent service as usual. Very thorough and he made my son very comfortable. Thanks Dr. Ted!

Beware. Very disappointing experience. I went to Ted for minor adjustments to my teeth years ago. I wanted to straighten out a couple of teeth to perfect them but I had no major defects. I went with metal braces because they were less expensive and I was told that they would be faster in straightening my teeth. He didn’t complete the job on time. And I was so horrified with his rough technique it didn’t seem worth it to keep going and he said they were good enough.
Yes he is eccentric which is absolutely fine. My issue was how painful the whole experience was. He told some story about people suing him on the first visit during the consultation. That should have alerted me at that point but he was in the neighborhood I spent time in. Why would a good Orthodontist tell a story of these people suing him??? I did have a problem with his ancient style of straightening my teeth. He used metal Ortho bands around my molars for the metal braces which resulted in major dental issues flash forward years now. I have recessed gums from the bands he used digging into my gums. I had trouble brushing completely and flossing in and around my teeth. It’s an on going issue now with my current dentist who does treatments to limit now all the sensitivities I am having not to mention what a recessed gum line now looks like… not impressed.
After I signed his contract to complete the treatment and pay in full or not complete the process and still pay in full, Bryan (I am convinced is the peace keeper in most of his patient encounters) said to me as I walked out the door: Just to give you a heads up. the doctor isn’t that gentle when he works on your teeth. no joke! He said that after I signed this bogus contract! Young and foolish. And so he was rough and it was an unpleasant experience. He works on your teeth like he’s angry with your teeth. Live and learn.
When I was finished almost 1 year later he made my teeth impressions and night time retainers but for only the top and bottom front teeth. Every Orthodontist I saw after that was confused by this methods. I was told that the retainers should cover the entire top and bottom teeth and so there was some shifting. Some teeth have slightly larger than normal gaps between them. Nothing noticeable visually but when I eat I get food trapping and then more problems. Slowly over the years I have been having work done to change these issues.
The result??? My teeth are straight for the most part. I have more dental problems now though. I have one tooth that was not turned before now turning sideways and I still wear my retainers every single night. The paper says after 3 years wear them 2 nights per week for the rest of your life or they will turn. Not true.
The final disappointment was that he charged me somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 6,000 for metal braces for approx 1 year. I found out later that invisalign would have been cheaper and most Orthodontist even today don’t charge that much for metal braces. Again, my teeth were relatively straight.
Anyway shop around.

Dr. Ted delivered a great set of choppers. My daughter’s teeth look beautiful. Thank you to Dr. Ted and his friendly and very accommodating staff (Brian!). You always went above and beyond.

I had Dr. Ted put on my braces in 2000. The treatment lasted one year, and he removed the braces in 2001. Dr. Ted made retainers for me that I wore regularly (they lasted over ten years each; Brian in his office made me new ones recently). All these years later, my teeth are as straight as ever!

My treatment started in July 2013 and on Thursday June 12, 2014 I had the braces removed! The process went smoothly and it feels like time flew by. Having metal braces in your mouth are never fun but wax always saved the day.
If you are looking for an orthodontist that cares about what you have to say please see Dr. Ted and his team. They are such an amazing group. Dr. Ted, Brian, Tiana and Jennifer made me feel very welcome and were so helpful. Their customer service is above and beyond! Brian is just awesome! I can’t say anything more. I have never met anyone that is always in a good mood in a doctor’s office and is willing to go the extra mile to help.
Every time I came for my visit Dr. Ted would always tell me when I had to return and what would happen in the next visit. All my questions were always answered thoroughly. They were also very flexible. Thanks to this I was able to go after work for most of my visits. I can’t tell you how helpful that was. Overall I had an amazing experience. You need to listen to Dr. Ted and follow the directions. Only once did I have a bracket come off and it’s only because the new glue they had used didn’t work as well. They replaced it and it never came off again. You also need to make sure to keep your teeth cleaned and not eat things that will eventually cause your brackets to come off. I also had to do sanding between my teeth. Of course it wasn’t the best thing in the world and I never looked forward to it but Dr. Ted was very patient with me and I couldn’t ask for more. My teeth were crowded and I didn’t mind because I knew it was only for the best. I now have straight teeth and I can finally smile thanks to Dr. Ted and his team.

I have always needed braces but my parents could never afford to get them for me. After getting a steady job it took me a while to do it but I finally decided I wanted invisalign. I was so tired of having severely crooked teeth! From my very first appointment, Dr. Ted and his staff made me feel like I was their only patient. Dr. Rothstein, Brian and Jennifer are easygoing and great to talk to. There were a couple issues with getting my invisalign started on time, but that had more to do with invisalign and their process.
From the start of the invisalign procedure to the end, everything was explained to me and I always knew what was going on with my teeth. This office is SO flexible with payment arrangements I couldn’t believe it. If you are having hard times, or you want to pay more or less one month then just ask! They are so accommodating. They are usually able to fit you in whenever you are available and if you need an emergency appointment they make sure to make themselves available.
I just got the buttons for my invisalign taken off and my smile is basically perfect!!! My results were apparent halfway through the treatment and now they just look like a hollywood smile. You wouldn’t believe the results if I showed you the side by side. All in all in took a year and a half and 25 trays and what a lovely experience it was! I would do it all over again with Dr. Rothstein!

I would highly recommend this office. Dr. Ted is great and so is his staff. I mostly worked with Bryan and Jennifer and they were very helpful especially when it came to all my insurance questions. My only thing is I do wish Dr. Ted was a little more gentle when it comes to things like sanding the teeth. Not sure how much more gentle it could be but that was my only minor issue.
I found Dr. Ted when looking for a dentist who does lingual braces. When I went in for a consultation he informed me that Invisalign would be a better option for «hidden» braces and would work just as well or even better. In top of that they were almost half the price of lingual! My initial set of aligners were for 11 months so I was happy I would be wearing them for less than a year. Within 5 months my teeth started to straighten out and I already saw a huge difference. I did get a case refinement that added on about another 4.5 months. This was just to make some little tweaks to make my teeth perfectly straight and now they are and I’m very happy.

Back story: Last year I wanted to get some gum work done. After shopping around and getting ridiculous quotes of up to $ 3,000, I followed a friend’s recommendation to Dr. Ted. He’d done her braces (and her siblings’ + cousins’). Not only did he do my gum work for less than ¹⁄₃^rd of the previous quotes, but he offered to do more laser surgery than originally agreed upon, for free.
Brian is also really great. Very helpful, kind, and personable. I’ve been meaning to send them a Thank You card…

Our son just got done with his braces, and we are very pleased with the results. I was at first surprised that he got them at the age of 9, thinking it was a bit early, but two years later he has beautiful teeth, thanks to Dr. Ted. His retainer had to be changed twice because as his gum swelling subsided, the retainer got too big. There was no additional charge and it was done quickly.
The office staff is indeed extremely nice and helpful. The doctor was able to see us in the evening, as that was the only way we could get our son there since we both work. Yes, he’s a bit quirky at times, but he knows his business. If he didn’t, he would be out of business by now!
We were able to use flex spending as my insurance doesn’t cover braces, and the payment plan Dr. Ted offered was very accommodating and helpful. Overall, we had a very positive experience.

Certifiably loopy guy!
Going to this Dr is surreal for an adult. There are many things that make me question Dr Ted’s ability as an orthodontist. Let me begin…
I went to him for invisalign. Again I am an adult patient. A 20 month projected timeframe winded up taking almost three years and results were a only 50% of what we were going for.
In the beginning I thought he was a nice guy. An eccentric, seemingly hippy-​type throwback (complete with white hair pony tail) who likes to listen to TV programs in French as so he can keep fluent.
Somewhat awkward in his actions. He seemed slightly scattered in his thinking,. but sometimes ultra intelligent/​talented professionals are this way, as they are always thinking in the analytical world as opposed to socializing.
As time went and the projected 1 ½ years time-​frame went to there years+ I saw a lot in that office. Here’s my experiences only:
— One of my first visits he needed me to help him with his pc to properly show me the invisalign animation of my case. In other words he couldn’t work his own pc to show me my invisalign customized video of my treatment. Not too big an issue but if I didn’t takeover the pc I would of missed the whole initial animation intro phase of the treatment. Felt a little unprofessional, but hey I didn’t mind.
— He often seemed extremely distracted and disconnected at times after first year… I deemed he was either going thru personal problems OR he was reevaluating my cash price that I was paying as it felt like he was having «service quote remorse» due to my case doubling in time-​frame. This of course was his mistake on quoting.
— He used as a log of treatment, a generic photocopied page of teeth within a mouth to keep track of my adjustments and history. BUT, twice actually made a mistake with notes! Once, honest truth, I actually had to stop him just in time before he was going to sand down the wrong side of my mouth due to his sloppy notes and reading the paper upside down!!. This is where I began losing respect for him and his skill set. What would he of done to a patient that wasn’t paying attention?!
— CREEPIEST MOMENT: One time I had to run thru three blocks of pouring rain as there is absolutely no parking accept for paid lots. When I walked in soaking wet he gave me in a pouty cutesy baby voice: «Poo’ baby. Aww yoo got all wet.». Freaked me out a little as I wasn’t sure staff was there yet. But if I was giving him the benefit of the doubt,. Maybe he’s used to talking to kids??? I dunno.
— All in all, by the time I was «finished» with treatment he was melancholy at best with me with no eye contact at all. He was upset about the amount of treatments he had to service me with as compared to his cash price quoted. I understood that I was having some issue with the invisaligns fitting my teeth properly and couldn’t always wear them throughout the whole day. Sometimes I had to remove them during day and put them back in later. Especially when eating. Note: YOU CAN NOT EAT WITH INVISALIGNS ON, no matter what he tells you. Ultimately, this combined with him not monitoring my tooth movement properly and incorrectly telling me to «go to the next» plate was what made us have to go back to the midway point late in the treatment. Frustrating to say the least.
For someone who was so scattered and behind in his computer know-​how Dr Ted is very up on his internet marketing and online exposure. I imagine because that’s what brings in the moolah. So I would think will see this review and respond in a contradictory fashion.

Horrible dentist! I had this dentist many years ago as a kid. My brackets kept breaking, even randomly without eating. He made me think I was negligent and didn’t take care of my braces well. A little over a decade later and as an adult, I have braces again! My brackets do not break at all with the new dentist. If he had been a better dentist, I would not have to be revisiting a dentist again during adulthood. Avoid at ALL cost.

Well, it looks like I’m the only one that doesn’t like this guy.
I had braces with Dr. Rothstein for 6 months… a looong 6 months. (P.S. – it’s not my first time having braces)
So where do I begin? In no particular order:
1.) I had been home for a grand total of 1 hour the day I got my braces on. In that time, 3 (YES 3!!) of my brackets fell off. You may have wondered what I was doing – eating jolly ranchers? chewing gum? eating sticky caramel? Nope. Nada. Oh, and can I add that throughout my 6 months I had at least 3 – 4 more brackets fall off. And I followed the braces rules to a T (hey, this time it was out of my pocket, not cheap and I’m not a 7^th grader anymore!) As a middle school aged kid I never had a bracket fall off the first time around… and I wasn’t too good with the braces rules back then – hence, here I am. (Wear your retainers, kids!)
2.) The whole pain factor… I would dig my fingernails into his chair and it didn’t even occur to him that I was in pain… even when I told him.
3.) My one tooth is STILL crooked. Nice.
4.) And here’s the best one of all. Throughout my braces process I had to get this «sander”/“saw» like thingy stuck in between my teeth, and moved back and forth to create space. I had some crowding, and he said this would help my teeth be able to move so they could turn into place. Painful as hell, but I understand why you’re doing it. Fast forward to 6 months after I get my braces off. I go to the dentist to get my mostly straight teeth cleaned. My dentist takes bite wing x-​rays and happens to find this weird backwards «L» shape notch under the gumline on one of my teeth. (That was NOT there 6 mos. previously when I had gone to my annual cleaning). To make a long story short, after lots of thinking and many questions we (my dentist and I) figured out that it was damage caused by the «sanding» Dr. Rothstein had done in between my teeth — he had gone too high while sanding and my dentist says that Dr. Rothstein had accidentally sanded down my tooth above the gumline (hich can eventually lead to cavities, etc.) Now I know why the tooth sawing sessions hurt so freaking bad. Okay, fine. I was pissed, but everybody makes mistakes. My dentist called Dr. Rothstein, sent him the x-​rays, and Dr. Rothstein has the BALLS to say that he «NEVER SANDED IN BETWEEN MY TEETH AND HE HAS NO RECORD OF IT IN HIS SYSTEM». Are you freakin’ out of your MIND??? How else would I know about this tortuous sanding procedure?! Seriously!!! And he gets angry at ME, sends me a nasty, defensive voicemail and DOESN’T EVEN OFFER TO PAY FOR MY TOOTH TO GET FIXED. I’d also like to add that he says that he couldn’t even «see what your dentist was talking about» on the x-​ray. If I’m not a dentist and can see it, why can’t you?!
The one positive? Brian, his dental assistant is AMAZING. Love him!
Enough of this. I could ramble on about this man forever. RUN, RUN, RUN!!!

Dr Ted is a great orthodontist. ive had invisalign for less than a year and my teeth went from being horribly crooked to straight! Dr Ted is funny and goofy and not for uptight patients!

Braces can be a daunting thing. The thought of having metal wires in my mouth for almost two years frightened me but it had to be done. This is where Dr. Ted and his staff came in. I was referred to him by my dentist and called in for a consultation. The consultation was thorough as with all his educational material during every step of the process of having braces. They are wonderful at providing you with all the information you need and being open to questions. In terms of appointments, my personal schedule made it easy for me to make appointments around lunchtime and I had never had to wait on line, not once.
I’m going to be honest here. Living with braces were at times pretty painful especially the occasional loose wires poking into the side of your mouth. Fortunately, it was easy to make a next day appointment with them for those situations and even if Dr. Ted is out of town, there is always someone there to assist you. The staff is very professional through the phone as well as face to face. They also remember my name. I know that sounds trivial but it makes a difference. I am guilty of being too excited during my food adventures and ended up breaking a few brackets. They were fixed shortly after a quick appointment.
I’d like to mention that they went above and beyond when I mentioned to them that I was going snowboarding one season. I was concerned that I may break them during one of my runs. They suggested that I could buy a mouth guard and Brian shaped the mouth guard so that it would fit properly at no extra charge. It worked very well.
My braces are now out. I have a beautiful smile and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been told that it’s so perfect that it looks fake. I’ll take that as a compliment. Highly recommended. Thank you very much Dr. Ted Rothstein and staff! Keep up the excellent work!

If anyone deserves a 5 star rating, it’s Ted Rothstein.
Dr. Ted is not just an amazing orthodontist, but he is an amazing person. My family has been going to him for years, and I am the last of my siblings to be under his orthodontic care. Needless to say, they have amazing smiles because of Dr. Ted!
His assistants, especially Brian, are equally fantastic (and knowledgeable.) When you walk into his office (conveniently located near downtown Brooklyn/​on the promenade near many subways stops), you are treated very respectfully and personally by everyone there. You never just feel like a run-​of-​the-​mill patient, which is important because dental work can be a daunting experience, especially for an adult!
Dr. Ted available around the clock if you have any ortho issues, and he encourages his patients to reach out to him especially by email which is so convenient. He also makes special appointment times outside normal hours if a patient really needs it.
I have only had my braces for a month and a half, and my teeth already look amazing. I swear he is doing genius work on my teeth! I also have no problems with my brackets because they’re on pretty sturdy. I feel like Dr. Ted really knows and cares about what he’s doing. He is definitely a pro, and even helped me transition when I tried invisalign for a while when living out of state. Him and his staff also went above and beyond when they had to do a lot of legwork getting all of my invisalign trays shipped to his office.
He also whitened my teeth last year, and they looked so naturally white. (I swear he does it all!)
I’m not a huge Unilocaler so if I’m Unilocaling it’s because I had a really awesome or really bad experience. In the case of Dr. Ted, I always have an awesome experience. All of his patients love him. Seriously call the office now for a consultation if you’re looking for an orthodontist, you won’t be disappointed.
In fact, I can’t wait for my next visit!
