I tried to contact Philip Henn several times about a listing of his. He did not respond initially, but when he did all I got was an e-​mail that said a single word: «Rented.»
So incredibly rude. I would never pursue an apartment opportunity with someone who clearly has no respect for his customers. When it comes to something as excruciating as looking for an apartment in New York City, one should show a little more compassion and care in dealing with prospective renters.

I moved back to New York after several years. After looking for a rental in several neighborhoods and speaking with multiple brokers from Corcoran, I would rather throw up in my mouth and then gargle with it than use Corcoran to find an apartment.
I spoke to three separate Corcoran brokers – thanks to their flooding the Craigslist «no broker» section with their listings. I was reluctant to hire a broker because of the impression that they don’t actually do anything but show an already vacant apartment while providing no value to either tenant or renter, and then collecting 10−15% of the yearly rent. Corcoran’s brokers confirmed this impression of uselessness and greed.
Specifically, Liliane David (working out of the the 124 Montague office in Brooklyn) convinced me that brokers are horrible human beings whom you should avoid at any cost.
Liliane David was disorganized, incompetent, and misled me several times: I asked about a specific building she represented and she agreed to show me apartments in that building. When I showed up for our appointment, she had an assistant walk me down the street to a different building and fumblingly try to show me an apartment of a different size than I was looking for.
If you read her profile on Corcoran’s slick and useless website, you can understand from her failed grasp of English prose that she may not be able to avoid misrepresenting herself and the apartments she claims to offer. Rest assured: Liliane’s incompetence is actually a guise for convenient lies and misrepresentations: she will do anything to sell you shit real estate.
Corcoran convinced me to avoid brokers. If you must use one, just don’t use Corcoran.

Katherine McFarland is a five star Real Estate agent when market was down found a tenant for my Apartment for a premium price and when that tenant moved out she found even better tenant for replacement. She is super cool, extremely reliable, Proffessional, efficient and everything you expect from a real estate but you should be so lucky to have her on your side. Five stars and plus!

My partner and I were getting desperate (we had, like, less than a week before we’d be homeless, and the place we were going to rent screwed us) when I saw a great listing on Corcoran’s site and went, «ehh, wtf.» We got in touch with Akeba, who showed us the place right away. She was great – personable, friendly, not fake, and knowledgeable. And the place was HUGE – I thought the listing was probably BS, just because most are, but it turned out to be even better than the listing made it sound AND it was cheap. (3br for $ 200 less than the 1br we live in now? yesplz.)
We needed to move asap so I provided every last piece of documentation I could almost immediately – I’m used to things happening fast around here. Everything seemed to be lining up perfectly.
Then the landlord decided she wasn’t okay with my dog anymore. Apparently she had listed the place as pet-​friendly so’s to, I dunno, stroke her ego or something, and then came up with some goofy reason for refusing anyone with a pet. (She told me my very well-​trained Chihuahua mix who is roughly the size of your average housecat was «too big.») (I know this isn’t the broker’s fault, but it’s part of the narrative, or something. I was rejected almost immediately, is the important part.)
The broker then tells me, «It’s okay, I can help you look for other places.» Great! We have like two days to get this figured out so let’s go… and the next time I hear from her is about a week and a half later, several days after when I’d told her my lease was up, for one place that’s not even close to what we were looking for. The best part? Days after I’d been rejected for the original apartment, and after it became clear that they had no real intention of helping, they still charged my card $ 65 for a credit report. (Also, as a side note, making your clients write down their credit card number, expiration date, etc. and e-​mail it to you is super sketchy and not even really necessary.)
I hadn’t used them before because I was wary of their lack of offerings in my price range, and now it looks like this is a trend that may continue.
Honestly, it makes me sad that it turned out this way, because we had such a great experience at the viewing. Corcoran, I am disappoint.

Corcoran is big, but there’s a reason — they know what they’re doing, how to find a good place for your individual needs, and how to make the best of the New York rental market. Have had great interactions as a tenant with both Jeff Gallo and Lisa Sulfaro from this office — both have gone the extra mile in customer service.

Well, to start with, I have to say that my girlfriend and I are full time students with no credit. That said, I was always skeptical about brokers, especially in a city that is already reallllly expensive to begin with. But after working with Corcoran, I know that it was well spent!!! We were looking for a cheap studio or 1 BD in Brooklyn Heights, like the nicest neighborhood in all of nyc, and Jeff Gallo from Corcoran showed us some great apartments! He stuck with us while we tried to find a way to a way to obtain the apartment we found and fell in love with! I love that guy! Lol, he has a great approach to his business and doesn’t pressure you in any way to make the sell and get his fee. It was a great experience to work with him! If any one has a chance to get business from them, go with Jeff Gallo in the Brooklyn Heights office!!!

Wow, they have a lot of listings. I just wanted to say that Vicky at Corcoran was able to make my boyfriend a believer in the idea of having a broker help you find an apartment. On a search for apartments on Monday (granted, we weren’t like most people, we wanted to sign something in one day… which we did), we were browsing around and a little annoyed with a place we found earlier because the broker was charging too much (in our opinion… we found it on craigslist and he was in the Poconos). So, almost accepting defeat and, me, being very hesitant about Corcoran because of how HUGE they are, skeptically walked into their Brooklyn Heights office, originally intending to meet one agent to show us a craiglist listing. Well, she wasn’t there, and we were more than happy to be with Vicky! Being that we were cold walk-​ins, she got right on the case, asked us what we were looking for, budget, and she went to some searching. She showed us amazing places and told us all about the neighborhood (and she lives there). She was familiar with the places she was showing (unlike most who walk in and it’s their first time) and showed off every last detail.
Now, unfortunately, we didn’t go with one of the apartments she showed us (we got the broker to lower his fee on the original place a little), but I felt a little bad we didn’t because we really wanted to give her our business. The places we saw were just a little out of the «comfortable» price range. But, if you’re looking for an amazing, intelligent, personable broker, give Vicky a ring.
