Specialties

A commercial wholesale bakery now in our 21st year making one thing, an authentic key lime pie using only fresh squeezed key limes. A wholesale outlet space is provided for local «to go» purchases of key lime pies in three sizes (ten and eight inch pies and an individual serve four-​inch tart). We are one of only two commercial bakeries in the US using fresh key limes, no bottled mystery juice.

In addition, walk-​ins can purchase our Swingle™, a frozen Belgian chocolate-​dipped key lime tart on a stick. Swingle™ specials include the Raspberry, topped with raspberry purée then dipped in chocolate; the Raspberry Blonde is topped with raspberry purée then hand dipped in Belgian white chocolate. The LaVictoria is topped with a chipotle purée and hand dipped in Belgian chocolate.

Warm weather gets you a cup of ice-​cold key limonada, or New York City’s finest double-​filtered tap water. Fresh key limes are available for purchase.

We offer miniature 3-​inch «teasers» in a variety of ways for catered events, weddings and other affairs.

History

Established in 1994.

Hatched from a studio apartment on Smith Street, we started with one customer delivering three pies a week. Four years later, we moved into a legit bakery on Columbia street which we would outgrow in two quick years.

April 2001 provided an excellent opportunity to grow our business, and for the next 12-​years we operated from a large Red Hook waterfront space on Pier 41. With the opening of Fairway Market and Red Hook’s new popularity, our walk-​in business has provided us the chance for us to serve the public while still maintaining our status as a wholesale operation.

Fall of 2012 brought three-​feet of water through our 6700 square foot space, compliments of Hurricane Sandy. We suffered tremendous losses in inventory, materials and income, but Sandy also opened a few doors. On June 2013, we officially relocated to a new, larger «water resistant» location a few hundred yards away.

Steve’s Authentic continues to provide our product to the public.

I run a business that provides possibly the best key lime experience available, that’s it! I’m not in the entertainment business, although I can be very entertaining at times. Just don’t rub me the wrong way. I actually love dealing with the public, and there are enough anecdotal accounts to both my pleasant demeanor and my rudeness.

It all started on a Saturday morning when I got a ambiguous text from my cousin asking if I wanted to go get pies. He never specified where, just that he would come pick me up in 30 minutes. We were going to get pies.
45 minutes later, we were parking in front of Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies, which I had no idea even existed. We got in line and perused the menu, which is pretty simple and easy to maneuver.
I ordered the chocolate dipped frozen key lime pie on a popsicle stick. It was pretty good, the tartness of the key lime cut into the sweetness of the milk chocolate. It was a bit on the expensive side though.
We also had the Swingle, which I did not like at all. The white chocolate was just too sweet and didn’t pair well with the key lime pie.

Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies is a commercial bakery located on the Brooklyn Waterfront in Red Hook. As the name implies, their specialty is key lime pies!
The store is located inside a large warehouse, technically on a pier, which also houses a glass making business and a landscaping company. Posted on the door are some interesting signs, a particularly humorous one that states «All Pets and Unruly Humans Should Remain Outside, Preferable [sic] On a Leash.» Another signs says, «We do not sell coffee.»
Inside, there is a counter where you can place your order. The menu is simple with offerings ranging from a personal 4″ tart to a 10″ pie which can serve up to eight people. The pie is simple, graham-​cracker crust with a key lime in the middle, and is extremely delicious. The other popular menu choice, perfect for a warm day is the swingle, which essentially a key lime pie, served cold, dipped in chocolate which is presented on a Popsicle stick and is so delicious!
There does not appear to be indoor seating, but there are plenty of places outside to sit in the company of friendly cats and dogs. If you find your way out here, I must recommend that you stop by and pick up a pie!

If you’re craving some key lime pie and don’t feel like hopping on a three hour flight down to Key West, jet over to Red Hook, Brooklyn, follow the signs and end up at Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie.
This Brooklyn outpost is mainly a commercial bakery but they’ve opened their doors to serve visitors craving some lime goodness.
The shop is modest and eccentric. Scattered among tons of knick-​knacks and a lovable shop dog, there are a few signs detailing your order options. There are only a handful of choices, and they’re all mainly variations of one thing — key lime pie — you’re not getting anything else here so don’t try to ask. Be prepared to grab your pie and take a walk too. There aren’t any tables or chairs, but there is a scenic pier nearby that is the perfect eating spot.
In general, key lime pie doesn’t rank high on my list of favorite types of pie (hello apple and pecan). Steve’s may have me changing my tune though. It had just the right amount of tartness and sweetness, with a buttery graham cracker crust. These key lime pies are made from real limes and they’re the real deal.

The best of the best. Steve’s uses real key limes, and it makes a huge difference in the taste.
It’s almost better that they have odd hours, because when you happen to be in the neighborhood and catch them open, it feels like a treat.

Came all the way here for some keylime pop and it surely was worth a try. I love key lime pie and their pie was awesome. The only thing about the pops was that it was a tad bit too sweet for me. Other the that, it was great. I’d definately come back for their regular pies. BTW this place is bit hard to find at night since it’s located at a dead end.

Good pie, but so far out and difficult to get to. Also I’m not partial to dark chocolate, and wish they would do a milk chocolate or plain white chocolate version and dip it fresh.

What an adventure getting here, yet well worth the voyage I had the raspberry chocolate Swingle, which I preferred thawed and was definitely an experience in itself. The tender crust, creamy curd and smooth raspberry filling, all embodied in as the soul of a heavenly dark chocolate godsend floating on a stick.

Food: I tried the original key lime pie, I normally love key lime pies but this wasn’t my favorite. The crust was very nice and not overwhelmingly sweet, but the pie itself wasn’t very tart. I usually like key lime pies with more of a bite and kick. This pie didn’t really hit the spot for me.
Brew: free double filtered tap water, great! But they charge you for a cup and ice! not so great. After spending over $ 7 for a little pie, you would think water would be complementary. So as a tip bring your own bottle of you want to quench your thirst.
Tip: They have some tables out in the front, facing lovely UPS trucks but I suggest you forgo that and just walk down to the water about 3 mins away and enjoy your pie with the beautiful Statue of Liberty and one world trade as your back drop.

TL;DR: Get the classic key lime pie popsicle!!!
Tucked at the end of Van Dyke Street is the Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies. Along the way, you will wonder if you will ever reach the store. But don’t give up! Search for the big Steve’s Pies wall mural at the intersection of Van Dyke and Conover. If you see it, you’re almost there!
The store is inside a warehouse near the water. You won’t miss it. I got the classic key lime popsicle! It’s basically a small frozen dark chocolate covered key lime pie with a popsicle stick inserted into it. Best invention ever. Thank you Steve! Just the right amount of tartness to sweetness ratio and great for a hot summer day.
There are other popsicle flavors, but definitely grab the classic before venturing back for additional tastes!

Never set foot in here, on Unilocal it says open at 11 am, on google its 12 pm but in reality we were stopped at the front door by some dude (may or may have not been the owner). He said can I help you? (rudely). Then I asked ok so when do you open and he blew me away with his response which was «that’s a great question, I don’t know maybe 2 pm». What the hell do you mean you don’t know when you open? people have to go the the ends of the earth to find this damn place, sweat like a pig and end up walking back with nothing! Get a damn clue and call before you go.

Interesting idea… the pies were somewhat freezer burnt, so I was disappointed. They were also very sweet, even with the tart raspberry to balance out the pie. Novelty is great but quality is what keeps people coming back… not sure I’d visit again.

Frozen chocolate covered key lime pie. Need I say more? I found out about this place in the winter and went on a cheesecake binge.
I bought 4 mini frozen ones and they gave me the 5th free! The best is the dark chocolate covered on with raspberry jam. I dream of it

Juste à côté du parc louis Valentino a red hook. Ce petit magasin qui est spécialiste dans les tartes au citron vert et bien si vous êtes dans le coin cela vaut vraiment le coût. Les tartes sont vraiment très bonnes, le prix est raisonnable (5 $ pour une petite tarte).

Best Key lime Pies in NYC!
The place was a bit of a challenge to get to as there are not really any direct subways to get to the Red Hook Area so to get here we had to take a combination of Subways & busses + walking a few blocks to find the place. How ever once you do find the place, consider it like finding lost treasure as you are in for a treat!
The Key Limes Pies are of course their specialty and have that great distinct tarty lime taste. The graham crust was phenomenal and the pie i ordered was quickly scarfed down in seconds.
There is also a cool park which over looks the water which makes for a great back drop while scarfing down your key lime pie during those hot summer days. For those looking for a nice mini stay cation get away, make the journey using public transportation and check out steve’s key lime pies!

The swingle was certainly not the gamechanger I expected, but the staffer was so friendly and the original is great (get the $ 10 special mentioned on the counter if you must try both). Don’t be foolish like the people inexplicably using the benches outside in the shade when the pier in the sun was steps away.

I was on a search last year for a tart yet sweet dessert and heard about Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie right in Brooklyn? Go figure, but my taste buds were not dissapointed.
The consistency of the filling is really good with no artificial after taste so you feel there’s no preservative junk and the crust crumbles with every spoonful. Translation? FRESH.
The interior décor of the store front «shake» is an eclectic but don’t let that distract you too much. Getting to Steve’s is a hike if you’re not near the Red Hook section of Brooklyn – home to IKEA, Fairway Market, Baked and Hometown BBQ but its worth the trip on a nice excursion day.

Haters gonna hate.
Sure it’s not next to public transit or easy to get to, but do people who wait hours for some stupid fad (points to cronuts and ramen lines) still bitch about it?
Thes key lime pies are mighty tasty — super creamy and smooth with a nice bite to them.
My only regret from coming here was that we only got 1 pie. Get as many as you can fit in your freezer because they’re flash frozen and do travel well.

Yes, we made the crazy trek over here!
First of all, don’t even sample their tiny key lime pie, because you know it’s going to be good. Just buy their huge $ 30 pie. It’s absolutely delicious, fresh and I wish I bought two of those, because I finished the whole pie within a few days, nommm.
We also had their raspberry dark and white chocolate swingles. They were good, but it was too much raspberry for me. I’d just stick to the key lime pie!
I’ll have to return in the summer and get their drink, too!

We happened upon this after a trip to ikea. We were looking for the pier and followed the signs for pie.
Inside, I think, they were growing key limes? Also… There was one of the cleanest little aquariums I’ve ever seen. Just something I noticed.
As we weren’t planning on pie, we ordered the small one, which, I think was like $ 5. We wandered out to the pier which was absolutely beautiful.
The pie was pretty damn good. It was a good consistency and we ate it quite happily.
I also want to say I think the outside of the building was neat.

After eating at hometown, my friend suggested we head over to Steve’s to get some pie. At this point i was so full i could barely breathe, but a short walk sounded nice (even if it was freezing cold).
I stepped inside the small shop and you can tell it’s a small family business. I took a look at the prices and was a bit skeptical. $ 30 for a 10″ is like 24 blackbirds prices. But my friends said I’d enjoy it, so i bought one to bring home for the family to try. The man behind the counter (I’m going to guess Steve) pulled out a plastic sealed cardboard box containing my pie. He also placed a 3 in pie on top, which was complimentary. This is a really great gesture, especially since the pie is all wrapped up and i was blindly buying. I shared some of it with my friends before i took the last bite.
The crust is nice crumbly graham cracker crust that holds well as you cut and serve. The pie filling is creamy and light, without running. The flavor profile is refreshing, where it’s just sweet enough, not tart at all, but retains that lovely key lime freshness.
It’s well worth the $ 30 because they use freshly squeezed key limes. I also believe they grow their limes indoors (i think).
