St. Francis Animal Hospital

I went there because where I got my dog recommended me, I have to say the staff and doctor where on point, but when I took him it was suppose to have been a free Viste, anyway I got home hours later I get a phone call telling me they forgot to charge me, I was shocked they gave him a liquid for heart worms which he already got. I wish they would had said I was going to be charged for it. So they ran a test, got called back he needed more medicine, which where I purchase my dog, and they took care of the bill. To make a long story longer I had to go back to the vet to pick up more medicine when we got there we where asking questions which they had to go back and ask other vet for the answer they had to go back about four or five time to ask the vet, I couldn’t believe he’s was not able to come out and talk to us. OK that was number two that I was already annoyed with them left there was told I have to start giving him the rest of his medicine after 21 days, so I called wanted to ask how much of the medication I have to give him since he gained weight, they didn’t have the info on him kept saying he has tables I said no it a liquid it went back and forth, I told them that’s it I will never take my dog there again. That was strike 3 and your out. For me that was very unprofessional.

It’s expensive here but they fixed my dogs ears. He had an ear infection for years. I adopted him. I took him grooming here once too. I’m giving them 4 stars cause they fixed my dogs ears. If not I would give a 3. They referred me to a emergency hospital for my dog and that hospital is not good at all!!! (BluePearl)

Dr. Steven Brigande and his assistant Paul were very inviting and explained the health issues my cat had. They really took the time to make sure my cat was comfortable. I didn’t wait long for them to call my cat and I in. I would recommend this place even though it is a bit costly but very well worth it. It is hard to come across caring, knowledgeable doctors that will take the time in going in depth and explaining whats best for your pet.

I love Dr. Brigandi and all of the staff. Always friendly and helpful — answering all the questions and more. I had two of my previous dogs with them and now I have a new one and she is one happy Chihuahua :)

I’ve been using St. Francis for over 10 years for my two dogs and both Dr. Battiato and Dr. Brigandi have been very nice, very professional, and excellent at diagnosing any health concerns.
Sure, they’re pricey at times and every so often they can be a little alarmist, but I think that’s true of a lot of vets in NYC.
I don’t mind paying the fact that they’re a bit more expensive than some other places because I know they are excellent vets and I trust them to take care of my pups.
They were also so sweet and gave my family a glowing recommendation when we adopted our new puppy from NSAL last year – I’m not sure what they said, but whatever it was, the shelter seemed quite impressed and the adoption process went by easily enough.
So if you have the cash to spare and want a quality vet, make sure that you go to St. Francis Animal Hospital!

Very informative, caring vets. Not cheap but efficient and knowledgeable. I needed to get my dog vaccines updated and though i waited 30 minutes to see the vet, it was worth it. Highly recommend and will be seeing them again in the future.

We couldn’t be more grateful to Dr. Battiato. He is a talented vet and he actually enjoys being able to help people and pets.
We found a huge mass on the back leg of our cat, Herb. Herb was 14 years old, but in good physical shape otherwise. We thought he was going to lose his back leg as this is usually the remedy for cancer. Dr. Barriato did a careful surgery and was able to remove the cancer. We took Herb home that night and he ran out of the cage and sprang up on a chair hours after the surgery. It’s six months later and our now 15 year old cat is still in great health.
One of the things I wanted to share on here was Dr. Battiato’s amazing attitude. When we went to pick Herb up, Dr. Battiato showed us pictures of huge mass he removed from Herb’s leg. When we asked what we should do if it comes back, he hopefully said that he thought he got it all. He had such joy in his eyes because he was glad to have been able to help our cat.
We feel very lucky to have Dr. Battiato as our vet.

I’ve never written a review for any service in my life but needed to share this one with all pet owners. We took our new addition, a miniature dachshund for her checkup and for one of her shots when she was 3 mos old. They did the usual checkup, sent us home with a heart worm pill and we needed to wait for the fecal test results. When we got home we noticed the heart worm pill had expired 6 mos. ago!!! A few weeks went by and we never received a call from the vet for the fecal test and presumed the tests were negative. A month later we took her to another vet (personally recommended by a friend) for her final shots and checkup. They decided to run a fecal test again since St Francis Animal Hospital never faxed over the paperwork after several requests. We got a call back 5 days later horrified that the fecal tests came back positive for Giardia. We personally went back to St Francis to get copies of her last appt and test results. When asked why we were not notified about the fecal tests. We were told «We only contact you if the tests were positive». Clearly in black and white the paper read «Giardia (ELISA) POSITIVE. What kind of people are employed at this place? People who do not know the difference between POSITIVE and NEGATIVE??? Obviously not Animal lovers and should not work at an establishment such as this. They do not care about your pets. If you love your pets and treat them like your family member do them a favor and do not subject them to this type of «care» or «lack of». I would never recommend this place to anyone. Please don’t believe that having a Saints name means they will do the «right» thing by you and your pet.

Dr. Orgello is excellent. My wife and i have chosen him to exclusively take care of our two and a half year old Shih tzu who has some allergy issues.
He’s patient with the whole process, which has been playing out since she was just a few months old.
I trust St. Francis with my dog’s well being and i’m glad i have them close to me. All the workers know my pup by name and really make her feel comfortable in compromising situations.
They definitely are expensive and theres nothing we can do because pet insurance doesnt cover a dog with a pre-​existing condition. I love my pup so i don’t let the steep price bother me, but it’s something to keep in mind if you are looking for a vet/​hospital.
Money aside St. Francis is excellent.

With all my heart and soul I am going to share with all my thoughts. St. Francis Hospital has been there for me and assisted me for many years, first with my wonderful cocker spaniel Alliee, who I had to put to sleep after 17 wonderful years on March 6, 2007. My Maltese I named Bachi that I rescued in June of 2008. He was 7 years of age when I rescued him from the people who did not want him any more which to this day I will never understand. How can you give up your pet after 7 years! They just woke up one day and said, they did not want him anymore. Sad to say, Bachi was neglected. On 9÷26÷2010 I received the unfortunate news that Bachi had prostate cancer. I had to help fight this ugly disease for my Bachi since no one really cared enough for him to begin with. He and I would take drives to NJ every two weeks for his chemo treatments. We did this for 3 ½ months, rain, snow and sunshine. It is unbelievable how he was such a trooper during this process. I really thought it would have worked I was determined to fight this cancer for Bachi and make it work. It was so sad and unfortunate that it didn’t. So with the wonderful help from St. Franicis during this time we kept Bachi comfortable till the end. On March 12^th, 3 years and 6 days to date, I had to make this heart wrenching decision again to put my Bachi to sleep. With Dr. Thompson by my side she gave me her strength I so needed as she did once before to help me through this very hard time. With the help always from Doctors, Brigande & Batatio, along with the support always with the help of their staff, who understood always what I was going through. They have been there for me in happy times and not so happy times. I know in my heart I will one day get another friend and I wouldn’t have to think twice where I would bring my pet, it would be to St. Francis Animal Hospital. I hope no one has to make that decision I had too, but unfortunately we have to for our friends who we don’t want to see suffer. I never put a price on my pets health EVER. I find it amazing that I would not think twice when it comes to my pets vet bill or how much the cost but for me, I would think twice before I would spend $ 100.00 dollars on a pair of shoes or something I wanted to buy for myself. And the money I spend for my pet? It always finds its way to me. My pets are my children. Please remember, they have no one to speak on their behalf but for us. Thank you for taking the time to read my review today. I hope it helps you think about the love you have in your heart for your pet. What works for me I hope the same will work for you. Don’t put a price on the best and remember, rudeness can go both ways.

I moved out of the neighborhood where this vet is located, but my parents still live there, and we all agree that the convenient location of this place is not worth it for them to go to with their dogs. I know one of my parents chief complaints are the prices, but I believe they also had other, more serious, complaints.
My story: A few years back, I was in a tight spot because my older cat was not reacting well to a 6 – 8 week old kitten I’d found abandoned outside. I took him to St Francis Animal Hospital and this is what happened: a) they spelled his name wrong (I named the kitten Havoc, which they spelled Havik), b) they overcharged me, c) they misdiagnosed him as a female instead of a male (by two separate personnel– the vet and the vet assistant), d) they failed to realize that the kitten had two types of parasites instead of one type that they’d started treating him for, and e) I noticed a sign they had that said an unruly pet would warrant a $ 10 fine from its owner. So obviously, my older, stressed-​out cat would not be making a trip to St. Francis, and I decided to find another vet that could treat both of my cats without being fussy and erroneous about it.

I bring my pup here for routine checkups with Dr. Battiato.
The good: wait time is usually minimal, Dr. Battiato is awesome (my dog hasn’t seen the other docs yet), clean exam area, appointments seem to be readily available.
The Cons: The vet tech staff and front reception people can be a bit rude. This varies though because the first time I saw the doc here back in 2006, the vet tech was super sweet and really helpful.
Prices are bit more than other places but in my opinion, worth it because the doc is thorough.
In summary, Dr. Battiato is thorough and I would continue brining my dog here for his yearly checkups. I also like the Humane Society of NY (Manhattan) for more afforadable dental checkups and surgeries.
