I went into Skink Ink with an extremely limited knowledge of printing and found Brandon to be incredibly helpful and informative. My print looks absolutely stunning and to have it executed so quickly and in such a friendly manner was unexpected for a first time experience. There was a hitch with my final price as it compared to my initial quote… not only was Brandon quick to correct it but he also waived the price of one of my proofs. I think it’s safe to say that I will be returning to Skink Ink for ALL of my printing needs. THANKS GUYS!

These guys did a phenomenal job with a portrait I drew for my mother’s 60^th. I wanted to make copies of the original for myself and for my two siblings, so I walked on into this conveniently-​located and SUPER cool workspace and was promptly helped by one of the employees here. Explained what I wanted done, chose my paper stock, and was out the door having paid in 15 mins. Got email proofs later that day, walked in to confirm, and had my copies within 48 hours. Not a huge or complicated job, but executed well nonetheless.
The result was fantastic and the recipients of the copies (myself and my sibs) are all very happy with them! Looks just as good, maybe better, than original b/​c I bumped up the contrast a bit in areas.
**ONE HUGE PROBLEM which I will say does not detract from the overall rating** b/​c it did not affect the result: the person who had been using photoshop to edit the original for printing did not do a good job at all IMO. When I came in to review the prints I was lucky to be in the presence of the owner, who edited his employee’s work to my satisfaction and that made the results what they were. MORAL OF THE STORY: be very vocal about what you want if you think the proofs are less-​than-​satisfactory. Don’t be afraid to take up their time — they are happy to help you and want the results to be the best possible. I’m very glad I spoke up because it made all the difference.
Bonus: great hours, great turnaround time, amazing local art all over the walls of the studio.

As a rank amateur, I can’t believe how far Philip and his team went to help me. The print came out great, was done in blazing speed and they were very patient and helpful through my multiple iterations and changes. Since the print was too large for them to mount, they even recommended and called a mounting company and shipped the print to them. They are even accepting delivery of the mounted print back at their shop since I won’t be home to have it delivered. I don’t know what the pesron that had problems here was thinking (or smoking) but these guys are amazing

I recently started painting again and putting my illustrations on instagram. There was this influx of orders that I was not quipped to deal with. I’m a graphic designer so I know about printing processes and paper quality and knew what I wanted if I was going to print anything. I’m extremely picky.
I researched forever, not wanting to work with a big company because I wanted them to care. I completely lucked out with Philip and his staff. Daisy has been great btw. If I make a mistake or am unhappy with the print for any reason (my fault) they work with me to fix it right away. The turn around is wonderful, max a couple of days.
I live in Harlem but willingly travel there a couple of times a week to pick it up. I can’t say enough nice things about them. I’ve worked with other print shops that couldnt care less, so Skink Ink is a refreshing change.

Working with Skink Ink was a breeze! Prints look great and Phillip was very transparent about everything. Read some of the bad reviews and they all sound like personal issues to me.
For the record I really enjoyed phillip’s frankness, council and attention to detail!

I cannot believe how ugly Philip Riley can be when he deems customers unworthy of his services. I’m truly shocked. How any small business person thinks they can conduct business by behaving like a petulant child, hurling petty insults at prospective customers, is beyond me.
All I needed was two prints. That’s all, very easy. I stopped by the studio to deliver the digital files, and even left samples of both images on the very paper stock I expected the new prints to be done on. Phillip was not in, but his assistant was very nice and I left with a good feeling about them.
Next day or so, I get an email. My proofs were ready. I call ahead as requested. I arrive, no Philip. Again. Assistant hands me the proofs. They’re perfect, I say, but they aren’t on the correct stock. May I see a sample of the stock? No, sorry, she says, but Philip can answer my questions. I say, okay, I just need to confirm because Philip has been quoting me «Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Natural,» but Hahnemuhle doesn’t make a ‘Natural,’ only ‘White’ or ‘Bright White.’ Okay, she says, «Philip can answer your questions but he’s out right now. I’ll have him call you.»
I never got a phone call, but I did receive an email informing me that my prints were ready along with an invoice for a WILDLY inflated figure that was more than $ 100 over the quote. A stream of back and forth emails follow in which Philip gives me some BLAH BLAH BLAH about why the price was off, admits he printed on the wrong paper stock (if only he called me!), and never answering the burning question: IS IT ‘WHITE’ OR ‘BRIGHT WHITE’? Obviously, all this silliness gives me the gut feeling that I should ditch these people and find another printer who doesn’t play games.
Here’s where I freely admit that I stalled for a few days. I contacted other printers but got nowhere. I changed my mind about the order a couple of times. Plus, the idea of having to make another trip just to see a piece of paper which they should have been able to show me during either one of my previous visits just burned my butt. In the end though, I decide to give them a chance.
Philip responds by declining my business. He cites the ‘back and forth’ and all his other work as reason for refusing to print my photographs. I laugh out loud at the part about not wanting to create ‘bad feelings,’ Apoplectic and driving over the Verrazano Bridge (i do not recommend), I call him to register my outrage and am taken aback at his antagonistic and downright b*tchy attitude. Unfortunately, I realized later that he still has my sample prints, and since retrieving them in person was out of the question at this point, I email him requesting that he mail them to me. Here’s the exchange:
Me:
«I left sample prints of my photographs with Daisy on my first visit. I’d like them returned. Can you please confirm that they will be mailed out before you leave the country? Address is…»
Him:
«We do charge for shipping: $ 6.50 for USPS and $ 10 for FedEx
because that is what it cost us to send things. If you really want them shipped I’ll ask you for the shipping cost. I don’t expect you’ll to want to do that and why would you for prints that must have cost $ 2.50 to produce.
And if you won’t then why would we?»
I mean, really. Was that response necessary? I don’t think so.
In summary, there are plenty of other businesses that do exactly what Philip Riley does, and they do so professionally without insulting customers. In fact, San Francisco’s Photoworks SF is one of them, and they produce incredible work at reasonable prices. I highly recommend you work with them or any one of the number of other printers in the NYC area. Just steer clear of this one.
UPDATE: Philip Riley’s response to my review is awesome. «They’re hiding my imaginary good reviews and only publishing bad ones!» Riiiight. Clearly, Philip Riley has an ax to grind. He needs to wake up and understand that he can’t mistreat customers and expect that it won’t result in bad word of mouth. I’m not the only Unilocaler to publish Mr. Riley’s exact words, and that’s because they speak loudly and clearly for themselves. Also: in his response, Philip Riley tries to pull the «small business» card; the very reason I chose to patronize Skink Ink, as well as many other businesses, is precisely BECAUSE they are small businesses. I will choose a small mom-​and-​pop over a box store any day, because it’s been my experience that small businesses value each customer and provide more personalized, friendly and attentive customer service. Petty, childish and unnecessary insults like the ones quoted above prove that Philip Riley and Skink Ink do not value their customers.

Skink Ink is a very professional printing shop and did a wonderful job printing a piece for me that was a part of a show at the Society of Illustrators. Philip, the owner, was very helpful throughout each part of the process, and made it a very quick turnaround. Although I have experience printing pieces, I did not have very much experience framing pieces and he was able to give me a couple tips in this area, even waiting for me to get a frame before he printed the finalized size. He took great care of my artwork and was genuinely invested in the print looking awesome.

I had a great experience printing here. Philip is very nice, helped me pick out the perfect paper, and turned the project around quickly. The prices seemed reasonable, and I’m very happy with the quality of the final product. Can’t complain, would definitely print here again!

Skink Ink rules. Philip, the proprietor of this shop, is super helpful and the turnaround for the job was very fast. I emailed him my files and I was able to pick up my gorgeous looking giclee the very next day. Prices are very reasonable, and he didn’t require a minimum order, which I found a lot of print shops wanting. I will definitely be using Skink Ink’s services again and will recommend it to all my friends!

I’ve used these folks twice now and have had great results both times. one was a stretched canvas print of a photograph i’d taken in Montana. I was surprised how well it enlarged given that the original image was only 10MP.
The other was a series of large prints for the walls at our wedding reception that were foam-​core mounted. They all looked great and were delivered on time (and when you’re planning a wedding you become incredibly grateful to vendors who actually finish things when they say they will!).
would definitely use them again.

Discovered Skink by chance. I was looking for his res 16×24 prints that would be made from smaller collaged pieces that contained many small images found on the internet. My original book was 7″ x 9″. I was very skeptical about the quality that i could expect. Philip Riley turned these little pieces into exquisite prints that I am now reconfiguring agin with drawings. the prints are almost too beautiful to mess with, but I will because I have to. And if I screw up, I’ll just have him make another because his prices are very reasonable. Five thumbs up. Not to mention how easy and pleasurable it has been to work with him.

Skink-​Ink is a small, one-​man operation I stumbled upon in my search for a Brooklyn-​based giclée printer. Philip-​who runs the whole thing-​is attentive, patient, and knows what he’s doing. An artist himself, he’s easy to communicate with and understands where you’re coming from.
The service is amazing-​hard proofs are standard, prices are good, turn around is fast, and questions are easily answered. Having dealt with many printers before (I’m an illustrator/​designer), I can hands-​down say that this was the most pleasant experience I’ve had thus far. No misplaced files or stupid mistakes. No damaged prints or missing pieces. No bad attitudes or extraneous charges. Just a set of fantastic prints from a friendly, very competent printer.
