Food is great but staff are nasty and bunch of stuck ups. Walked in to place an order for take out… the face of the cashier was priceless and her attitude was beyound nasty. It was 9:40 pm on a sunday and they were closing in 20 minutes. So if 20 min is not enough to prepare and order to go for your customer and decide to have a face than why be in business. Disappointing. Never eating there again!

I ordered teriyaki chx rice instead sushi this time. It was really good except the rice was too hard. I recommend to try the miso soup, it’s delicious. If you go there in a nice day, don’t miss the backyard! Yes, they have a backyard dinning area.

One of the few sushi spots where I always have peace of mind that my food will be fresh and prepared in a clean environment. Too many restaurants in Brooklyn are outright dirty or have workers that are uneducated in the laws of personal hygiene. But at Shobu, not only do I love the staff because they’re friendly, but I feel comfortable with ordering anything off the menu because the workers and restaurant are clean. The salmon always tastes fresh and whether I dine in or order delivery, I am never disappointed. All sushi and rolls that I’ve tried have been excellent! The only two things I don’t like here are the gyoza and mango bubble tea. The dumplings are too bland for me and the mango bubble tea always tastes watered down; might just be that I’m used to strongly brewed tea!

Consistently fresh and always pretty tasty for a small neighborhood sushi joint. Much better than most similarly priced/sized places Service is very attentive and the prices are pretty standard. I come here a lot and am never disappointed so will continue to choose this place over the other sushi places in Bay Ridge.

This review is based on my take out experience. I’ve ordered before fairly regularly, and everything has been good. Not great, but good, and even though it’s a little expensive compared to other sushi places I always felt like the sushi was fresh and if there’s one thing you don’t want to cheap out on, it’s sushi. However, the last time I ordered, everything went wrong right from when I got my food. Or didn’t get it, I should say — the delivery estimate was 30 – 45 minutes, and my food came 30 minutes late. My hot app — ice cold. And the delivery guy couldn’t be bothered to get out of his car to ring my bell, then demanded money even though my order was pre-paid. And my soup was missing. When I called the restaurant, their answer was they would give me a credit on my next meal. Of course, there was no receipt for the credit, and why should I pay for(a) one thing that I never received and(b) one thing that arrived cold and inedible. The manager refused to budge on the«credit» on a future order, which is bogus. They could see I was a regular customer. Shouldn’t I have been afforded the courtesy of at least a refund for food I never received? I guess the assumption is that I will order from them again. But now I won’t. Grub Hub gave me a credit, which I will use to order from somewhere else.

I’m a huge fan of omakase style of dining but that can get really expensive really quick so I like to order delivery from Shobu whenever I have a craving for sushi during lunch while I’m at home. I haven’t had any of their rolls since I prefer ordering their nigiri sushi. Their fish is fresh but they can definitely improve on the seasoning for their rice. For a neighborhood sushi spot this place is pretty great.

When I think of the words«unique» and«sushi», this is the spot that comes to mind. For starters, the sushi served here was simply amazing. Every roll I had ordered, were both delicious and filling. I am rarely in the neighborhood, or this would be my everyday lunch spot. The staff were very well mannered, and had no problem allowing me to take my time to order. I dined in. I was offered a collection of unique sushi dips(along with the standard soy sauce and mayo), which I was skeptical of at first. One of the dips was a peanut butter dip. I was hesitant to try at first, but I dared myself and it turned out to be surprisingly amazing! My check came out to $ 37.55(before tip) for 3 sushi rolls and 3 pcs sashimi. Ordered the«Out of Control», Shrimp Tempura, and California rolls. For sashimi: Eel, King Crab, and Sweet Shrimp. Was very much worth every penny.

First off I’d like to say that the service here is spectacular and very attentive and friendly The place was clean and atmosphere was peaceful We got a couple of appetizers and three special rolls I feel like the food was a little bland. None of the rolls stood out in flavor or taste and appetizers were okay. The menu had a good variety so we’d like to def. come back at least once more to try food from the kitchen.

I may have found my new go-to spot for sushi with this place. While the outside of this place may have came across a little dark and gave off a hole in the wall kind of vibe, the inside was clean and well taken care of. The waitress was amazingly nice and helpful. She came to check on our teas multiple times and constantly refilled us without being prompted. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The prices were decent and were a tad more than our other spot but in my opinion, it was worth it. We tried the dragon ball just because the pictures intrigued us. We weren’t disappointed with the taste and freshness itself but it did appear a lot smaller than it did in pictures. Go figure. I ordered the chirashi. Usually I’m on the picky side when it comes to the types of raw sushi I’d eat just because I’m scared of the fishy, unfresh after taste… but nope! All the fish on my plate were delicious. Compared to other places, they don’t serve their chirashi in a bowl, but instead the fish and rice are just arranged on a plate. Overall, fresh sushi, clean restaurant, attentive waitress and reasonable prices. Like I said before, new go-to sushi place.

This place is the epitome of the phrase«don’t judge a book by its cover.» I’ve passed by this place many times, but never thought to enter. I was not expecting the interior to look so nice due to the dark exterior. The servers are super friendly. Triple Tartare– I love the presentation. Chunks of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with mustard soy sauce. It was so flavorful, I want more!($ 12) Beef Negimaki– I’m usually not a fan of this dish, but the ones they serve at this place are tasty and have great texture.($ 9.50) Seaweed Salad– Yummy!($ 5.50) Spicy Kani Salad– I love that they use apples in this salad. It has a pleasant spicy kick.($ 6) Sweetheart Roll– Heart designed spicy tuna rolls. They look adorable and taste delicious.($ 13) Summer Roll– My favorite! Salmon, spicy scallop, king crab, avocado, and mango. I love having mango in my sushi. It was very refreshing.($ 13) Christmas Roll/Million Dollar Roll/Fantastic Roll/Volcano Roll– These rolls were great!($ 13) Shrimp Udon– It was pretty good.($ 13) I’ve been to other sushi spots around Bay Ridge and this is one of my favorites. The sushi doesn’t break apart easily. It also doesn’t get soggy when you order for take out.

Bay Ridge has a perennial favorite in Shobu… The servers recognized me and my lady upon our second visit even though it was months between visits… In Brooklyn that is some feat… The sake flows like water and attractive rolls are garnished in fried leeks and tobiko, not heavy mayo based sauces. I am impressed with the attentive service… The big three tuna, salmon and yellow tail are always bright and fresh. The only fault I have found here is that they are not as generous with the portions of fish as I would like.

I’ve ordered take out from here several times. I’m not a Japanese food fan, so I always get the pad thai because they’ve always done one of the better versions of it in the area. Until tonight, it’s always been very tasty and well made, but tonight, it was completely tasteless. Not very happy, I don’t know if the Sunday chef is different or if it’s just laziness, but I’m leery about ordering this again from here.

I tried Shobu Sushi about six years ago and I was impressed. The food was okay and the place looked okay. Recently we ordered from here and I was very impressed with their super fresh sushi. It was delicious(as good as my go to sushi place — Hana Sushi on 86th Street) The food was delivered fast as well. I ordered the Naughty girl — well worth the extra $. I also ordered the shrimp tempura roll which was was also very good.

Hands down, best sushi I have ever had in my life. Small place located in BayRidge right next to the R train, last stop 95th St. Clean, contemporary, sleek décor. Nice warm ambiance, great lighting. The server is absolutely darling-very thorough, welcoming and friendly. The Edamame is fresh and flavorful-The peanut avacado roll is delicious with honey roasted peanuts-Yum. The Sweet potato is fresh and warm. The mango Kani salad is to die for-sooooo delicious. My absolute favorite is the coconut shrimp with mixed vegetables-Thai entrée-has the perfect balance of coconut with a slight spice-oohhhhh hello new favorite sushi spot-Finally we meet

This is the best sushi place in Bay Ridge, hands down. Sushi is always fresh, the presentation is never sloppy, and they don’t drown the taste with sauces. It is quiet, especially if you sit on the back porch during good weather. The waitresses are very attentive and pleasant. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this place. I will keep coming back.

First time ordering from this place and it went well. Delivery was fast and when the food came, it was still hot. A bit expensive but the food was good. I got the Beef Teriyaki Bento Box, Beef Pad Thai, and the Crispy Calamari. Beef Teriyaki Bento Box: came with white rice and side salad. The beef was was delicious. Beef Pad Thai: Fulling. I only finished half of it. It could be a bit more spicy but it was good. Crispy Calamari: Everything about the calamari was good. The sauce was good. The calamari wasn’t chewy and it was still crispy by the time I got my order. Would I order from here again? Yes. Definitely going to get the crispy calamari again for sure: D

I was hoping to eat some slightly better sushi than the usual sushi places in Brooklyn since it had 4.5 stars as of 4÷28÷15. But it was just okay. The décor is casual. Not modern or hip like some sushi places in the area. We were a party of 6 and a baby. It wasn’t busy on Saturday night when we went and they were able to arrange a spacious table for us. Note that this place is not that big. I got to try a variety of food and it was decent. They not only have sushi, they also have thai and chinese style food. So it’s more of an Asian fusion type of place. Good choice if your party wants to eat different cuisines. Although I came for the sushi and the fish was average. It didn’t have that soft, delicate texture. That gives it a smooth bite. I had the Sushi Deluxe that came with 10 pcs sushi and tuna roll for($ 18). It came with the usual salad or soup. I can find the same quality of sushi at a lower price in the area. Since they don’t have any specials like buy one get one free or buy one get one 50% off. The service is really good here.

After someone I knew found a picture of me at on Unilocal at Shobu from over 4 years ago, I decided to pay this place a little revisit to see sow they managed to uphold a 4.5 star rating. I came back with my old sushi partner in crime, and unfortunately we did not have a 4.5 star experience. I can say the waitress put on a 4.5 star show, she was very friendly, courteous, and receptive to my green tea needs, but she was also borderline sarcastic which slightly put me off. After i finished my seafood soup, I had a weird taste in my mouth, which sometimes happens when i have mushroom soups at sushi restaurants. My sushi receptors went all haywire, and I really could not enjoy my rolls. I tried the three rolls for $ 10.50, lunch special, the naughty girl roll, and a eel hand roll. I was disappointed with all three choices. The three rolls i got as part of the lunch special were filled with too much crunchies, and had very little fish. They were not even AYCE caliber rolls. They were rather tasteless as well. The naughty girl roll was doused in way too much sweet sauce, and the fried onions on top were pretty sad and didn’t really feel like they should be added to sushi either. Lastly, and my most surprising disappointment was my eel hand roll. The eel was so overcooked, it was like jerky. I don’t know if that is supposed to be the real way of preparing it, but I’ve never had it like that before and I was little disgusted by it to the point where I was very close to sending it back. My seafood soup also tasted more like mushroom soup, and even that was a bit unexciting for seafood soup. I really felt like nothing was of good quality here, and I have no idea why this place has such high reviews. My experience was extremely poor. To top it all off, As I drove away, I saw the chef outside in front of the restaurant in 12 degree weather smoking a cigarette. I find it so nasty when sushi chefs smoke, because they are using their hands to prepare my food, and tar and sushi is not my favorite combination. Sorry Shobu, you are highly rated but are nothing more than less than average.
