This place was great. The shared table concept was slightly awkward but very cute. The portions were a little small but still had great flavor to them :)

I agree with the 3−½ star average rating. It’s a very, very small place. There are no separate tables here, there is one community table and a few side areas to sit at. They do not have heat, at least they did not have heat when we were there, so it was very cold and uncomfortable. You will probably be in and out of here in 45 minutes. It is BYOB. It’s not the greatest ramen place, but it’s okay if you are looking for a quick meal and not any kind of dining experience. We paid about $ 38 for two people(two ramens, one dumpling appetizer(not very good), tax/tip. As others have noted, the meat had a lot of fat on it. The corn in the ramen tasted like canned corn. You can find better in a real Japanese place. This really just had a waiter and two guys in the back cooking up your stuff.

The atmosphere is very cute and quiet and it’s BYOB. The pork dumplings are amazing and the ramen was really good, but wasn’t as hot(temperature) as it should’ve been so the toppings came out kind of cold. I loved the Mabo Ramen because it came with practically nothing in it which is perfect for someone like me(very picky eater) so for once I didn’t have to pick all of the toppings out of my ramen or move it over to the side. There’s also a section of the menu to add on toppings if you want more. I also loved having the large bottles of water on the table so we never ran out and the container of chopsticks and soup spoons in case you happen to drop yours on the floor or in your soup. I wasn’t a fan of the tiny diner style napkins though. Oh and it’s cash only.

No. Just no. The one star given was for the BYOB. Otherwise this place pretty much, sucks. 1. Spicy is not spicy. Even the chili oil«infused with chili, roll eyes* is NOTSPICY. Veggie tan was basically too thick, whole wheat noodle soaked up all the ‘broth’ before I could finish, aka NOTEDIBLE. Cabbage was not chopped and I was literally eating cardboard veggies. No. Their signature Shinobi was hugely lacking in flavor. The pork given mostly consisted of mostly FAT. No. Seaweed salad was so poorly made + presented. No. My guess is people who come here either never had good ramen from the other side of the L train, or never had ramen in their life? Instant ramen would’ve tasted better. It was also incredibly loud, aka good for nodding at your uninteresting date. Guys, just get pizza instead? Yes.

I eat here all the time. Fast, friendly service. BYOB is a nice change of pace, and there’s 2 shops right near by with great beer selection, as well as a wine/liquor store just down the street. The only thing making this a 4-star review instead of 5 is that, sometimes, the meat seems pretty low-quality — sometimes a piece will have more fat than meat on it, or there will be a tough, inedible chunk of cartilage or something. Still, it’s affordable and, by-and-large, delicious. I’ve eaten there at least 5 times in the last month, and I’ll be going back soon.

What a fantastic take-out meal! I went here tonight for the first time and ordered the Super Miso. It was a fantastic mix of noodle, broth and pork, complimented with garlic, egg and corn. I was in and out in 5 minutes! I’d highly recommend this for anyone who loves Asian good, and I know I’ll definitely be going back!

Love this place! I already loved it for the hot ramen and I just tried the cold summer ramen and it was delicious. They are BYOB and the seating is very casual, cafeteria style, so it’s a good place to go for something quick and easy.

Shinobi ramen is a hole in the wall, really. BYOB and don’t overstay your welcome. The ramen is good, get it spicy! It’s not the most flavor filled ramen you will ever have but it’s perfect for those cold winter nights or when you are feeling sick. Bring a friend, some beers and slurp up!

The veggie cold ramen was good: very flavorful and unique. The portions were good and the price is reasonable. We went during Bushwick Open Studios so the place was very crowded and chaotic.(I don’t know if this place is always this busy.) The host let us know it would be a 45 – 60 minute wait. We were starving so I asked if take out was available and if it would be less of a wait. True to his word, takeout took less than 10 minutes and we were out of there with our food. It would have been a better dining experience if we could have eaten there and the wait wasn’t so long. I’d like to go back and eat in during a less hectic night.

I love this place. So much. They have lots of vegetarian options and the food is delicious. My boyfriend is obsessed with the pork buns. Shrimp dumplings are also amazing with that spicy mayo. Big portions. Decent prices. BYOB which is great. Especially since there’s a wine/liquor and beer spot in a block radius. So good. So so good. Wish it wasn’t cash only, but I’ll deal.

I am never disappointed when I dine at Shinobi. The food is simple, flavourful and really hits that ramen craving spot. They’re broth is very clean and not too salty. The noodles always taste very fresh and is never over filled in your bowl. Service is also always great, the gentleman that works there is probably the most calmest host/waiter I’ve ever seen work in a restaurant — especially for one that’s almost always packed. //CASH ONLY // Bring: a bottle with you, since it’s BYO Order the: Shinobi Ramen Skip: the line and get in right when they open at 6, grab a seat at the window and enjoy the Bushwick people watching with your noodles.

Shinobi is the coolest little ramen place. We ended up grabbing beers from the grocery around the corner and bringing them in because it’s BYOB but I loved it. It’s the perfect place to hit with a few friends in the cold/snow for some incredible ramen and warm/cozy ambiance. It’s communal seating which I love because you can actually be social and make friends. Service/guys who run the place are a blast and make the experience that much better. Hands down incredible place.

Teeny tiny place with not a whole lot of seating, so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors. No personal space here! On a recent visit, we ordered the Shinobi ramen($ 12.50), with all the fixings. The toppings were good, egg and noodles were cooked well, and it was a decent portion. Not so small that I left hungry, but also not so large that I felt bloated for the next week. Perhaps just a little overpriced for what we received, as I’ve had much better ramen in the city for under $ 10. And the broth… oh my god it was bland and in desperate need of salt!!! I loaded my bowl with chili oil just to get some flavor out. I’m not sure if this is how it usually is, being made with chicken broth and all, but please add some salt or at least put it on the counters for us to use! I’d come back because this place is conveniently in Bushwick, but not because it was great ramen.

Pretty good ramen, though I do prefer when the broth is made from pork bones and not chicken etc. It isn’t the best around but it is close to where I live and it’s nice to BYOB. There is one waiter who always seems to be working when I come and he is really great. It is a little drafty in the winter by the window, so dress warm.

This place has rice noodles! Finally! Your gluten-free ramen dreams have come true! Loved the spicy broth… loved the toppings you can get to customize your bowl. Teeny tiny space — I’d recommend take out on a busy night.

Recently treated myself to dinner at Shinobi. Sat down in the small dining room and ordered the Mapo Ramen. It was served up within a few minutes, during which time a few other couples sat around me at the communal table. That said, I felt no stigma dining in the dimly lit room by my lonesome. The ramen was delicious. The broth was rich and a bit oily, but as I stirred around the tofu and forked out bits of spicy pork, my nasal passage was cleared and my face doused in the lovely steam that transcended from my bowl. I lapped up all of the broth, leaving quite of the few almost al dente noodles in the bowl. The waiter offered to package it up for me, but I quickly paid and bustled out into the early fall evening. What a satisfying meal.

Mabo ramen & pork fried dumplings. Pork fried dumplings were tasty and crispy throughout each and every bite. The dipping save was thicker than the standard dumpling sauce that I am use to but I liked it. It paired very well. Mabo ramen has mabo tofu place on top of ramen. The broth was very flavorful and the mabo added to it brought an extra kick of spice. They seem to portion out the right size of noodles and broth for me. So that when I was nearly done I wasn’t overly stuffed but was still full. The waiter they had for table service was polite, pleasant, friendly and provided apt service. All things I love in service. Too bad I did not catch his name. I enjoyed the food here and will be returning shortly to try something else. Being that this place is close to where I work so i will visit often especially when winter comes. Small restaurant so not really great for large crowds and it is cash only!

Every time I try Asian food in Bushwick, I’m always disappointed and this place definitely doesn’t change my mind. If you’re trying to find an authentic ramen shop, this is not the place to go — please just make the extra effort to take a trip into Manhattan. The bowls of ramen here are a complete joke to the rest of the ramen shops I’ve been to. They give you barely enough broth and the portions of everything else are a bit on the skimpier side. I have heard that they give you extra noodles for free if you ask and this restaurant is BYOB. Also, the service is pretty good — the guys that work here are really nice. That warrants the 2 stars.
