Sheepshead Bay Fruits & Vegetables Market

This place got even more expensive than it already was… I know the average prices of most food items I buy, so if I go there, I only buy things that are not grossly overpriced, which doesn’t leave me with many options, sadly. Their conventional stem tomatoes were $ 3.99/lb last week, which is already over $ 2 more expensive than most Brooklyn stores, but today they had a new price tag for the same item: $ 4.49… Non-​organic apples were $ 1.99/lb and up, while most stores sell the identical varieties for $.99 or less.

This place is very expensive, I went in looking for some fruits and walked out with a $ 50 receipt. It was literally 3 – 5 types of fruits, nothing fancy or exotic. I think everything here is priced at least 50% higher than the average local store.
I know I’m never coming back to this place unless i lose my mind.

I love this store. Yes, their prices are higher than the supermarket but they have many things that you can’t find elsewhere. The fruit and vegetables are fresh and there is a good assortment of everything and a good bakery where you can get Juniors cheese cake. They also have delicious fresh bakery rolls. Also love that they are open ²⁴⁄₇. I do not find the staff rude as suggested in a few other reviews. To the contrary, they are very helpful. I have been looking for a specific flavor of Smuckers jam that no-​one has carried for years and even called Smuckers today… who told me that the closest place was in NJ. I was just told on the phone by the fruit market they have it. She (Sophia) even went to check the shelves tomake sure, Sorry I didn’t look sooner but never thought such a small store would carry something the supermarkets didn’t stock. Hope this place never goes away.

Dont get me wrong. Its a great place, products are good and most of the staff is very friendly. My issue is with the deli counter staff (night shift). If you come after 10pm they refuse to slice any deli «sorry, we already cleaned the slicers». It’s a 24 hour store. Which implies it does business 24 HOURS. Today they tried to stick me with end peace when i requested for fresh stick of salami to be unpacked they refused to do it. Most normal places discard end peace and don’t force the customers to take it or leave it. This should be noted by the management.

Don’t bother.
I picked out some pastries, asked the girl how many, she told me 6. Charged me for 6, but when I got home, there were only 5. And 2 of them didn’t taste fresh.
Service was mediocre at best. Most of the staff was either unknowlagable or acting like they were doing me a favor for serving me. I want Russian food, not Russian service.
Food at the deli was… edible…that’s the nicest thing I could say about it.

Very clean and nice store. U can found what ever u want. All the time all product are fresh. Staff working perfectly and friendly. Very recommended…

Horrible prices and customer service. Every single thing is cheaper than in any other store. Workers are rude, don’t help and give attitude. Disgusting!

This store is huge and it’s hours are great. Prices can often be more expensive than Whole Foods, which is ridiculous. However, the quality of the produce is good. We always shop here, and so far have never been disappointed.

This is a large and recently expanded fruit and grocery store in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I’ve passed by several times when visiting friends.
There is a large selection of fruits and vegetables, even exotic and ethnic. The organic section has expanded with package salads, some fruits and vegetables, but the prices are quite high compared to a Whole Foods Market or a local cooperative market. The bread selection is quite good too. Towards the back, there is a large dessert area with cakes, sweets and whatever you want for a sugar rush.
This is a good place for locals to shop and support a local business.

This place is, although looks well kept on the surface, is actually quite unsanitary. Prices are high and staff can be disgustingly rude.

Excellent selection of high quality fruits, vegetables and berries, including organics. Great deli department with impressive selection of international food. Nice selection of freshly baked bread. Conveniently open 24 hours. Small matter of occasionally rude cashiers does not change the attractiveness of this store. It is, however, missing a delivery service, which would make this place a one stop shopping.

Really good produce — all the fruit just smells soo good. Large assortment of items for a neighborhood market. They have a nice little packaged meat section with organic and air chilled meat. I still haven’t quite figured out what air chilled means, regarding poultry … but I’ve bought some from Fresh Direct on one occasion.
They seem to have a plentiful selection of chocolates and baked goods, but I never look too closely, as I’m perpetually dieting.
I really appreciate that they carry Jello Cook & Serve Sugar Free Chocolate Pudding — it’s difficult to find, in the supermarket.
I’d prefer if they refrigerated their hard Italian cheeses, though. I’m more likely to buy a prepackaged wedge over the pieces they cut and wrap for the store, because of this. The Parmigiano Reggiano looks a bit sketchy …

My favorite place to shop at! The selection is great and the dried fruit section is the best in the area!

I have found my new favorite grocery store in my neighborhood! We have lived here for years and have constantly been shopping at stop and shop– I wish I knew about this place years ago!
My husband and I recently purchased a juicer so we wanted to stock up on some additional veggies for our juicing escapades. Rather than pay the high prices stop and shop has, we thought to head over here to see what fruits they had in store. We were so pleasantly thrilled with their variety– especially in organic products. We thought this was a simple fruits and veggies spot, but we were dead wrong. They have a great deli section (with great polish kielbasa and other polish goods). We even picked up some Armenian string cheese to try out.
From well stocked produce to a lovely deli and meat department (not to mention they also sell quail eggs!), this is our new go-​to spot! Check it out!

A solid fruit and vegetable market with an excellent produce selection.

Best produce shop in the area. They have a smallish selection of organics, but it has been steadily growing. All the fruits and veggies are always fresh and of very decent quality. They recently expanded and now have an extensive deli and baked goods section. Throw in the small salad bar and the bulk dried products and you’ve got yourself a pretty darned great shopping experience.

Their fruit is what will always catch your eye. The freshness the color the arrangements are absolutely gorgeous.
But I love this place. They offer a wide variety of things such as dried fruit, sunflower seeds, and now deli and coffee. Also be sure to try Russian candy. Delicious. They also sell many American foods, so no worries. They just recently expanded and you can now buy ham and bread, just like net cost.
To be honest I like this place more than net cost by neck road station (q train) because it’s much less crowded and the prices are cheaper, I believe. However, they obviously don’t offer as much because they are smaller. I like coming here after church because it’s close by, but I would probably go to net cost if I needed more specific things.
This place also has two exits, one right by the stop and shop next door so whatever you can’t find locally, go to stop and shop!

So clean and very organized. There’s always workers cleaning or fixing shelfs or areas.
The fruits and vegetables are all fresh and good sales.
I can get a nice size box of mixed cut up fruits for $ 2.00 which is awesome.
Its open 24 hours.
They sell a lot more products in there and European foods and sweets.

For years, before and since I went vegan, I’ve shopped at Sheepshead Bay Fruit & Veg. I’ve always been serious about the quality of my produce, but now I’m even more particular. Much of their produce is organic and all of it is gorgeous. I also find many of the certain grocery items I need, such as California-​grown brown basmati rice, many kinds of dried mushrooms, grapeseed oil, Bragg’s Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, Huy Fong Sriracha, nondairy milks, spices … saves me from trekking to the food co-​op. I think their pricing is about the same or a little higher than an ordinary supermarket, and significantly lower than the co-​op. The staff is helpful and pleasant, and I love that they’re open 24 hours and have a small parking lot (enter on E. 17^th St).

This place is great for certain things.
It’s akin to a Trader Joe’s in size, but with a lot more fresh fruits/​veggies.
In fact it’s 50% fresh food versus 20−30% at TJs. They beat the latter in terms of perishable goods. Amazing selection of green fare, from melons you’d expect to melons you’ve never seen. The cheese deli is also solid. Dry goods are fair, to «better than fair» if you’re into Russian/​E. Euro standards (pickled everything).
Clean, modern, well stocked. I’m not near but will spend a half hour on the train to go there again. It’s not that great for meats, which is why they don’t rate higher. What fish/​beef/​pork they have is cured/​in sausages. A good selection of tubed meats, but I’m not sure if you can buy a chop, steak or side of something.
