I stopped in last Saturday evening to try the Sangria that everyone brags about. Well I can see why they’re bragging. It’s fantastic! Whether you order a glass or a pitcher, each is made right there in front of you. None premixed. I will definitely go again to try the food as it looked delicious. By about 7:30 — 8:00, the place got packed. They must be doing something right.

Excellent. We had paella marinara, gazpacho, crab stuffed mushrooms and sirloin steak. Every course tasty, great ingredients and nicely presented.

Not going back ever again. The waiter from the beginning did not get our orders right. Ordered a a drink with sweet gin and they gave us dry, asked for chardonnay and they gave me merlot, crab legs were over cooked, filet mignon had no flavor and the waiters had a dont bother me attitude. What killed me is i walked in before my fiancé and they said just sit. once my fiancé walked in wearing a suit they were oh so attentive. WTH is wrong with this picture? I was my usual self saying please and thank you to the staff and got dirty looks but once my fiancé was abrupt they were all up his ass like flies on poop. They can keep their paella. Ive had better service and food in dives.

This place is awesome! Please ignore all the crappy reviews below especially the vegan one! Your vegan!!! You can’t eat anywhere!!! I’ve been wanting to go to this place for a while and last week I took my family. The food was outstanding, the staff was outstanding, the cocktails were outstanding the atmosphere was outstanding. This is old world Spanish food… Spain Spanish food… Not Puerto Rican or Mexican… It’s simple good food served with a smile and with pride. The wait staff know how to wait tables(unlike most restaurants) and don’t rush you through your meal. Get the ham and cheese… Get the stuffed mushrooms… Get the veal sanchos… Get it all! You will not be disappointed, we have been twice now and I’m ready to try the paella with lobster this time round. Looking forward to our next meal!!!

Whent to Sanchos hoping were a special Spanish meal. It left us much to be desired. The paella tasted like packaged rice. Was oversalted a pathetic excuse for a Spanish cuisine. FAILED! Although scallops and shrimp were prepared and cooked well.

As a vegan/vegetarian I hoped this place had at least appetizers that I could eat, and they did. However they were so small that I would need to buy 3 portions just to get filled, don’t expect to see any vegetarian options here. Except Mushrooms with garlic. Enjoy :)

Another great day at Sanchos. Both the Chicken Ajillo and Shrimp in green sauce were delicious. The meal was excellent. The ambiance in Sanchos is very nice. If your looking for a nice«date» place this is the place for you.

One of my favorite places in Bay Ridge to take family and friends. This restaurant is very family-oriented. When you go there, it is likely to have big parties of families, book clubs, girl’s night out, and the like. It just creates that kind of atmosphere — a step up from casual but not stuffy. This can cause it to get noisy, but this is the only negative I have to say. The paellas are delicious, and they don’t skimp you on the meat and fish. You get plenty of goodies around the rice. I never felt cheated. Same goes with the veal and chicken dishes — they bring you a plate of homemade chips with them and a plate of rice. The appetizers are good — they say they are good for 2 people but in reality, think most except for the shrimp cocktail can be split 3 – 4 ways. Highly recommended if you are looking for something in between fancy and casual.

Ok the atmosphere is a little dry. It definitely targets an older crowd. But, if you can look past all of that there Paella is to die for! It’s a nice change of pace from other places in the area.

My wife and I went to Sancho’s for dinner, after not having been there in a few years. Well it was great to know after all these years they are still making great food. The sangria was tasty. Our stuffed mushroom app was just right. And the mariscada in green sauce my wife had was great, as was my chicken Aijo. So if you want a really good old school spanish dining night, Sanchos’ is the place to go.

A comfortable room with bare brick walls, nicely decorated. We started with stuffed mushrooms, nice garlic sauce reminiscent of escargot sauce. Main entrée was paella with large portions of clams, mussels and shrimp. The rice was done just right. The Spanish potatoes, always my favorite were crispy and not greasy. The salad was usual house type but fresh and crispy. An entrée of shrimp in green sauce was good although usual. I recommend sancho it’s a reasonable clean, friendly restaurant.

We really wanted to go to Tanoreen, but it was packed and nothing available till 10pm. As we passed by this place, a woman exited and said that the restaurant«has been around for 30 years» and that the food was«great». Hmm, I thought as a looked into the window and saw how busy they were, she must be right(and dismissed the bad reviews that popped-up when I checked the place on Unilocal). So, we went in. First, we had to wait to be seated, and before that — for the maitre d’ to even notice us. Once seated — right across from waiter station/bar, we checked out the place — it was busy indeed, but most patrons were elderly. So when I say this place is old, it applies to décor as well as the patronage, and I mean no disrespect. We felt rather out of place. We ordered shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. It was a sad sight — few tiny shrimps in a tiny glass. The salads that were brought out were, indeed, as Unilocalers noted, just piles of lettuce with a few pieces of tomato and grated carrot. The bread was OK, but when we asked for another basket, we got different bread, and it was… stale. For entrees my husband ordered fish of the day(sea bass) broiled, no sauce, and I went with seafood paella. The fish was ok, not spectacular by all means, but edible. My paella, however, was not just tasteless, it was bad — the mussels had a bad smell, so I just took them out; the rice was probably a «cardboard box yellow rice» — it tasted as if it was made a week ago; the scallops were cut into tiny pieces and tasted rubbery. I had may be four forkfuls and moved the plate away. Needless to say we did not ask for dessert. What we noticed though while there is that older patrons were grateful to wait staff and complimented the food. They looked like they were genuinely enjoying their meals, so perhaps this place has signature dishes that are amazing. We will not be back, however, because this experience was one of the worst dining experiences I ever had and I do not want to make the same mistake twice. PS: Both my husband and I have been to Spain and eaten in non tourist-trap places.

This place must be a staple of the neighborhood because this place has been here for over 35 yrs that’s the last time we were here. It was packed at 6 pm, we had paella with everything in it kinda dry, veal and lobster paella also dry. It was meh.

I came here for my mom’s birthday a few weeks ago and my whole family was pretty disappointed. We ordered: Appetizer: Fried calamari — okay, but nothing special Main dishes: Paella valenciana — all the seafood here was pretty sad and did not taste fresh. The chicken and sausage was alright. Porkshop in balsalmic sauce — probably the best dish of the night, with a relatively yummy sauce. However, the porkchop itself didn’t taste the most amazing. Tilapia and shrimp saffron sauce — this was probably the worst dish of the night as the tilapia really tasted like a frozen filet that was heated up and had almost no flavor at all. Also, oddly, the fried potatoes that came as a side for one of the dishes were soggy and tasted like they were fried with old oil. Dessert: Flan — pretty meh and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. Service-wise was also pretty mediocre. While generally polite, our waiter didn’t seem to care at all about making us feel welcome or selling the dishes. He did not tell us about the specials, and we had to ask him rather aggressively to get any information about dishes at all. The server who refilled our water and our bread, on the other hand, was quite attentive and friendly. If I were to describe the experience here, it would be that everything felt tired. It’s almost like the restaurant has stopped caring about making the quality of the food or the general quality of the experience a positive one. Nothing here was terrible, but would I come back? I don’t think so.

I came here for dinner tonight with my husband and a friend. It was a memorable experience to say the least and unfortunately it wasn’t because of the food. Let me start with what we had: Appetizers: Broiled octopus with olive oil and paprika Fried calamari Both were on the menu as specials. I’m not one to add salt to a dish, but both needed to have salt added. The marinara sauce was actually good though. Entrees: Two paella Valencianas. One sans mussels and one sans scallops Lemon chicken with a side of rice and potato chips I found the paella to still be lacking in seasonings, however there was a good amount of seafood, chicken and chorizo. If you want really good paella you have to go to the city and try sofrito or sazon. My husband had the chicken and he said it was ok. They charge for refills on sodas which I didn’t think happened anymore these days if the soda comes from a fountain. Now for the interesting part. My friend and I didn’t finish our paella and we asked for our dishes to be wrapped up. easy enough right? The bus boy took it upon himself to wrap both portions of our left overs in one container. When we asked where the second portion went all they said was, it’s together. My husband told our server that I was allergic to mussels, and there was literally no action or reaction by our server. Now we didn’t really expect much, but a sorry at the very least would have been nice. Our bill came to just under $ 100 and I will remember to never go back there again. With the decline of casa pepe’s food quality and now this place, unfortunately there are no longer any really spectacular Spanish food places in Bay ridge anymore. Any other suggestions would be great!

Great place to come for dinner. I honestly would have given a 5, but the wait was at least 30 minutes. I was told it would be 10 – 15 minutes. When I finally sat down we ordered food, the service was a bit slow. I understand because it was a Saturday night. Overall great place to check out.

Doesn’t get any better for some great Spanish food! It’s almost as authentic as you can get, the waiters all speak Spanish and the décor makes you feel like you walked into a Spanish villa! The dish to get here is the paella that comes two ways, marinera(just the seafood) or the valenciana with all the seafood and chicken and chorizo. I’ve been to Sancho’s 7 times and for the last visit I finally got the valenciana and loved it so much! If enough people in your group order the same paella dish it comes in one giant pot and they give you a little more! The lobster claw and tail is always delectable, along with the spicy shopped chorizo and perfect chicken breast, crab legs, scallops, shrimp and clams/mussels. The rice is yellow and you will also find strips of red pepper. Regardless of ordering for a group or getting the individual dish, you will have lots of extras to take home. As for other dishes, I suggest the black bean soup with onions and the croquettas, which are mini potato croquettes with some Spanish seasoning. Even the salad dressing has a Spanish twist and bolsters the thousand island flavor. The grilled octopus is also good but it’s not a big dish. If you are drinking alcohol, the go-to drink is the Sangria. Get it white or red, in a half pitcher or full pitcher. It comes with fresh fruit and does the job! For dessert go for a tartufo or the chocolate mousse, which comes from the Amazing Aunt Butchies on 13th avenue! Sancho’s is a great all around Spanish restaurant that I highly recommend, one of the best in Bay Ridge!

I came to this place with my family for my sisters graduation since its pretty local and its spanish style food which were use to. We entered and the table was set up nicely for the party of 10 and I noticed it was an old style fashion restaurant, kind of out dated compared to other places around the area and it was not that big neither, I seen mostly of an elderly crowd and seen they serve nice lunch specials too. We started off with appetizers which was fried calamari, shrimp in garlic and potato croquettes. I enjoyed the potato croquettes the best because they were really soft and had a nice flavor to them inside mixed with the potato, the shrimp garlic was good too. Was not crazy about the fried calamari cause I felt they were too greasy and kind of soggy like. Dinner we enjoyed seafood paella with lobster which was mixed with mussels, chicken, clams and chorizo, chicken in garlic sauce and it comes with side order of fried potato chips and yellow rice. Others ordered also shrimp and steak. The paella is really good actually and you should def. share it with someone cause it comes out in a big hot pot and it can def fill up more than one stomach. I enjoyed that and the chicken came out in small little chicken bone pieces which wasn’t bad neither I would of just preferred a half of a roasted chicken style. They serve sangria and frozen drinks but we kept it PG-13 and just stuck with water and sodas. I would come back here for the paella and maybe try out there sangria or frozen drinks but its def. more of an elderly crowd and the waiters are actually nice and helpful too.

I used to live in bay ridge and this was one of the nicer restaurants. Visited tonight– incredibly disappointed– waiter was awful, so rude and arrogant. No children’s menu options. Pricing was expensive. Menu looks same as 10 years ago. Looks like they should retire this place. Food was just ok… Do not recommend this place.
