Outside of Russia, St. Petersburg Trade and Publishing House is the largest Russian book and music store with over 10.000 sq. ft. of merchandise. Customers come to us not only from the NY region, but also from the neighboring states, such as NJ, PA, and CT. The newest books, magazines, CDs and video releases arrive weekly. This allows us to have the most current inventory on our shelves at all times.

We offer a variety of products, such as books, music, CDs and tapes, videos, DVDs and souvenirs. It is our mission to serve the unique cultural interests of our customers by importing only the best products Russia has to offer. We could be favorably compared to large bookstores our customers are familiar with from their homeland experiences. Being in business for over 15 years, we make sure that all of our customers are completely satisfied, whether in the store, on-​line, or over the phone.

History

Established in 1994.

Saint-​Petersburg Global Trade House offers a huge selection of products from Russia. The company was founded in 1994 in New York City, and is now the largest distributor of Russian products outside the former Soviet Union.

The company offers a huge assortment of products from Russia and other Eastern European countries, including fine china, scarves and shawls made of wool, silk, and goat down, high quality bedding, nesting dolls, Russian books, music, movies, and much more. The most famous brands are now under one roof, including Imperial Porcelain, Fedoskino, Pavlovo Posad, and Palekh.

Natalia O.

Business Owner

Born in Moscow, she conducted her studies in one of the most prestigious colleges in the city, GITIS (the State University of Theater Arts). After graduating from GITIS with the Art and Drama Critique Degree, Natalia moved to the United States and opened her first small Russian bookstore, which she named Saint-​Petersburg, placing it at the center of the Russian community in New York City — Brighton Beach. Believing that both the Russian and the American cultures can benefit by learning more about each other, the purpose, the dream behind going into this venture was to present the rich heritage and culture of Russia to the American people.

Nowadays the store, originally intended to be solely a book and music retailer, has broadened its horizons to specialize in truly timeless cultural treasures that embody the genuinely monumental vastness and gracious beauty of the Russian soul, including the festively-​bright shawls, handmade porcelain tableware, and many other products from Russia

Once in a while I’ll drive to bklyn just to go to this store just to pick up few Russian cd to listen in the car to keep myself entertained but that’s the only store I’ll go cause I know they have a good variety of cd… And if your in the mood for somethings old to listen to they have it

There’s one of these stores in every non-​Western culture, acting like a sort of bridge between the two worlds. This is pretty much the store for Russian/​Eastern European cultures, and you can pick up items that run the gamut from incredibly authentic to panderingly kitschy. They generally stock the former in the back for the real deal customers, and put the latter out front for those looking more for souvenirs.

Love the store. There is always somebody to help with books. A few weeks ago I needed to make an order and had no time to go to Brighton to pick it up. So I chatted online with Roman, he gave me all needed information. He also told me that I can order and pick it up either in Brooklyn or in Manhattan store. Next day I picked up my books at the Manhattan location. My order was there waiting for me.
I had a good experience ordering over the phone. Roman was great, answered all my questions.

Very amazing Russian store with all kinds of awesome traditional Russian items. I am so happy my most amazing friend took me to this shop. I really wish I can understand and read Russian. Funny thing is almost anyone that is Russian thinks I’m Russian so it’s kind of sweet to be in this shop. Some of my favorite items are Matroyska, pillows, Russian pots and pottery and of course to my surprise, platki! I really would get a platki but it is very expensive. I was told it is a souvenir item so it is rather pricey. At least now I know where I can find these very pretty scarves. I might visit in the future but since I cannot read or write in Russian, I cannot find myself in here too often even though this shop gave me some interest to Russian culture.

Unique place with a range of Russian goods like books, music, children’s toys etc. I am not Russian, nor do I speak Russian, so I can’t comment on the quality of the Russian book and music selection. They did, however, have a good variety of nesting dolls. I got a pretty 5-​piece nesting doll for $ 20 and a free keychain with the Unilocal offer!

If you love books but can’t read Russian, Southern Brooklyn is a reader’s wasteland. The only place in the area to get English books is the library, or the laughably small section for English lit in stores like this one. Since St. Pete’s is the go-​to for Russian media, I would recommend it to the standard Brighton Beach crowd (and tourists), but not to non-​Russian speakers. What Southern Brooklyn really lacks and needs is a Barnes and Noble or decent community bookstore not specializing in foreign-​language lit.

On a couple of occasions, I went down to Brooklyn to get a good amount of Russian music. I can’t just go on one thing alone cause I have to add more flavor to my music collection. It’s not just the main store at Brighton Beach, but also its sister stores located in the rest of Brooklyn.

There were also good films, though I don’t buy them as much simply because many of them don’t have English subtitles and also because many of them were Region 5 with SECAM (we Americans use Region 1 with NTSC). That is my biggest gripe. I brought Na Igre and it’s sequel Na Igre: Novyy Uroven’, which were about video game addicts with powers. It would be nice though to add the subtitles and leave the English-​language bits of the movie alone without the dubbing cause we speak English, to make their product more accessible to a wider audience here in the USA.

I was expecting more selection of stuff from Russia. Good video and cd selection. They did not have the Russian movie I was looking for. I asked for a recommendation on some jazz and I did not like what the sales rep picked out but oh we’ll. takova zeezchen. I won’t hold that against the store.

Books. Music. A dose of Nostalgia.
There is pretty nice selection of Russian books, films and souvenirs, and excellent variety of music — not only Russian, but oldies from France and Italy as well.
I am simply in my music heaven. From Kino, DDT & Nautilius to Mylene Farmer & Particia Kaas — all in one place.

I’m a big film nut and they have a great DVD section of mostly Russian films, but also the good old euro stuff that I love so much to browse through. The book collection is also very impressive, I love that they have an «occult» section — that is a very russian thing to have. By all means, most of the media is language specific, but there are also crafts, fun merchandise, t-​shirts, paintings — it’s really in the eyes of the beholder, but i’m glad they are there.

Great bookstore. There exists a wonderful staff, and a great array of book and russian souvenirs. The store also includes: cards, gifts, home goods, best sellers, children’s books, children’s literature, classics, fiction, poetry, philisophy and a lot on spirituality and religion. Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming!!! it’s the perfect store, where you can find high quality gifts for your friends and relatives.

This is probably the biggest one among all the St. Petersburg franchises scattered among Brighton Beach area. The price set is very reasonable unless they have spiked it since the time when I frequented here – eh, those CD days. Still it is fun to browse and chat with clerks about their trend they are eager to introduce to you. You are welcome even if you are not a Russian speaker: lots of them know English yet hardly get to use it since they work here. Or you can take it up from here. This place is definitely a cultural representative and you should take advantage of it accordingly.

Its feel like everyone goes to this store locations for the books, music or anything themed in russian. I have to admit, I do like this store and tend to venture in there for russian music. I think they have everything and anything you want.

I work for the Public Library in CA and we order constantly from the Company. I have no complaints about books, but the DVD are often clumsy and of bad quality. These are few examples:
1. Pokhishchebie bogini: 2 discs have the same episodes (5 – 9).
2. Svaty: episodes are mixed up and not in order.
3. Bratia Karamazvy (new version): very bad quality.
I think I’ll stop ordering DVDs from them because it is very hard to get refund or replacement.

Hoped to raid the back room «behind the curtain» of all of its Russian pRon, but that curtain hides nothing more than a store room.
Struck out on pRon, but did notice a ton of books, mostly in Russian of course, and lots of regular Russian movies, CDs and some folk art. The Russian version of «My Big Fat Greek Wedding» is «My Big Armenian Wedding». There’s also a movie about Kim Kardashian here called «My Big Armenian Ass». Kidding. You knew that. Didncha?
My Russian friends have gifted many of the items in their gift department. I feel gypped now that they didn’t likely acquire the leather embossed box with the brown bear on it in Russia… they probably bought it here.

Ok, I have a confession to make. I am obsessed with Sergei Dovlatov. Sergei Dovlatov is the reason that, time and again, I have made the trek back to St. Petersburg Books in Brighton Beach, even though I practically live in this corner of Brooklyn and should go somewhere else already. That, and the singing Krokodil Gena I bought for my identical twin sister for our birthday this past November (i’m telling you, it was klasna).
Who, you may ask, is this Dovlatov fellow? Is he one of the many interchangeable but always polite t-​shirted towheads that work the door at St. Peteresburg Books and it’s many Brighton Beach affiliates (including Grocery Bazaar and Detski Mir?). NO! In fact, Sergei Dovlatov is a famous Russian-​American author and humorist of the 1970’s whose large body of work is somehow all but forgotten and equally impossible to find, either in English or Russian. Except here, where it abounds.
Where but here could you get a gilded hardcover copy of Tolstoy’s 800 page tome Anna Karenina, in her mother tongue, for $ 8.99? Certainly not at the Strand, folks. Try finding Dovlatov there. Ha!

I’m ashamed to say that I only know a few Russian bands: DDT, Aquarium, Kino, Assa… Alla Pugacheva and Vysotsky, naturally — but what Russian doesn’t know them. Whenever I start missing the mysticism of Russian rock poetry, I head down to St. Petersburg.
Located in the core of Little Odessa, St. Petersburg Book Store is the Russian version of Virgin or Barnes and Noble. It carries books — mostly in Russian, but you will find a few in English — and a large selection of CDs, DVDs and VHS. A few Russian souvenirs are thrown in for good measure — no Russian store of any kind would be complete without a matreshka!
The staff is very professional, especially for a Russian store. Most people who work there are young people who know the music, movies and books well, so if you ask them for a particular band or actor they can usually give you pretty good advice on what to get.
The prices vary. Some of the items can be found in other stores for a little less, but there are great bargains to be found! I’ve bought CDs there for as cheap as $ 2.99, a great deal even on Brighton Beach!
