History

Established in 2012.

Redbeard Bikes was started by Ilya «Redbeard» Nikhamin to offer the kind of service that seems to be missing in so many retail shops. And to offer all types of cyclists the type of gear that they want to use.

The founding principle was to match every rider with the right equipment every time. And to do it in a professional, courteous manner. With occasional jokes and bad puns.

Business Owner

Ilya Nikhamin earned the moniker «Redbeard» while working at Roy’s, a bicycle shop in Sheepshead Bay.

Over eight years, he also earned a reputation for his love of bicycles; his discerning eye; and his tell-​it-​like-​it-​is approach.

Accompany Ilya on an early morning spin around Prospect Park, and you’ll get interrupted by cyclists asking for advice, or just saying hello. «I sold him that bike,» Ilya will say.

Ilya fell in love with cycling as a teenager: rode everywhere and watched all the races.

He is thrilled to finally run a shop of his own, selling bikes and gear that he believes in, and offering professional bicycle fit services.
