Prospect Park Zoo

For just $ 8, you can easily get a couple of hours worth of entertainment whether you’re lugging some little ones along or just having an educational adult day. It’s a small zoo, which I liked because it wasn’t overwhelming at all, and I felt like I could catch every exhibit in one visit if I wanted to. Like most people, my favorite was the sea lion feeding, which in the summer seemed to happen regularly throughout the day. The petting zoo area is always a hit as well, of course, as it’s always fun to feel those funny furry sheep and goat lips as they gobble up the pellets that you can buy from vending machines. It’s a great part of a day in Prospect Park for kids of all ages!

I love the NY Zoos and Aquariums. They are very well known and help educate the younger generation about endangered animals around the world. This zoo, isnt well known or even that big for that matter. But what they lack in funding, they make up in community and imagination. You can come here and learn something new even as an adult. They have rare animals even the bronx zoo doesnt have (Like the Dingo). I always love this zoo.

I have gone to the Prospect Park Zoo a number of times. I have always been a big animal lover, so I have gone to just about every zoo I could possibly get to in and out of state. Prospect Park is a nice refreshing place to go in Brooklyn because there is some actual nature! It’s nice that they have a zoo, which is conveniently located across from the Botanical Garden. I’ve found that it is usually relatively empty, atleast whenever I have gone.
I am very fond of the petting zoo. They have a wonderful selection of animals that you can feed, and pet. Bring quarters as that’s all the feed machine will take! The animals are very gentle, and sweet.
The selection of animals outside of the petting zoo is very minimal, but it IS a small zoo. This is not the bronx zoo, or a large area so considering the size it is a nice set up. They are as clean as a zoo can be. And the staff is very friendly. The sea lion show is a nice addition.
I’ll continue to visit the petting zoo here!

What? I never wrote a review for Prospect Park Zoo? I could have sworn I had since I have been here at least 4 times just this year alone! Anyways, it’s always smart to get the membership if you visit all the zoos and the aquarium as much as I do.
The discovery trail is always a hit whenever I bring my 2 girls. Along the trail, they would encounter many small animal exhibits. Ducks, and turtles by the wooden overpass (bring spare quarters for feedings), a cute red panda, and Kay’s favorite? Yes, a porcupine. Just to name a few. Be on the lookout for the hidden Spider Web, where kids can enjoy a little play time bouncing and climbing on it while you TRY to snap away many pictures hoping to get one okay shot. Ha ha. Once you find the Aviary, sadly it would be the end of the trail.
Since we have been here way too many times, my girls both know very well that the fun doesn’t stop there. We always take a quick snack break by the Sea Lion Court while watching the sea lions occasionally stick their heads out, then head over towards the Barn where they can feed farm animals. I always make sure I bring enough change, they just love their tiny hands being tickled while feeding the animals.
This zoo is considered pretty small, but great for little kids to venture out before catching a good long nap, which busy moms, like me, look forward to every day.

Loved the monkeys, could stay there for hours.
We visited there on Thu, very quiet, we were almost alone. Probably gets more hectic during the wknd.

If you’ve ever been to the Bronx Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo will only disappoint. We basically covered everything within an hour, and the only cool thing we saw were the seals. Their exhibit is the central point for all of the exhibits.
Many of the exhibits only helped me see how sad the living conditions were for the animals (monkeys without sufficient roaming space, a massive cow who’s entire body just fit the wooden area that was carved out for him, etc.
Admissions was $ 8 for adults, but even if you paid me to return, I wouldn’t.

After scoring the WCS IDNYC membership at the Bronx Zoo, dropped by here after a quick your of the Lefferts Historic House out front (near the carousel). Shame there are no more Kangaroos or Wallabees, but I guess they’re marsupials for a reason.

We had a great time here today. The weather was great for a day at the zoo. There are plenty of exhibits to see. Although the zoo itself is not that big, it’s the perfect size for small children. My toddler especially enjoyed feeding the farm animals and the ducks. We will return in the future.

Fun fun fun! Small zoo, but once you walk in past the awesome steel sculptures and into the discovery path you’ll feel like such a kid again. The Red Panda has to be my favorite — anyone’s favorite actually. What’s cuter than a panda humping a tree log? nothin.
Second favorite part has to be the sea lion feeding (4pm). Perhaps I have not been to the zoo in a while, but I didn’t expect the zookeepers to have actually trained them to do tricks. Awesome surprise.

Went on Mother’s Day with my two toddler children; and my girlfriend and her two kids. I mean come on – Mother’s Day and Mommy’s don’t get free admission, Strike 1. Don’t blink or you will be outta that place, its very small, Strike 2.
It’s perfect for toddlers as they have short attention spans and get fixated on certain animals. The seals were enjoyable, but way too crowded, so try to arrive early with your small children, so they can get a front row spot.
Having grown up in Fort Greene and this park being one of my childhood hotspots, I was none impressed. Not what I remembered.

I was really impressed with the Prospect Park Zoo! It’s definitely made for kids but I was alone and really enjoyed it. They have a nice variety of animals and interesting exhibits. I was there on a Tuesday pretty early in the day and while there were a few school groups, it wasn’t super packed. There were also a lot of volunteers and employees in most of the areas to answer questions, which was great.
If you can make it work, see the sea lion feeding. Even before it started the sea lions were goofing off and playing around but it was really fun to watch. I spent about an hour and a half in the zoo and for the $ 8 entrance fee, it was perfect.

When I was visiting my sister in Brooklyn her boyfriend showed us around Prospect Park. To his surprise we found a zoo located in the park (he has been living in NY for 6 months when we came and has been to the park multiple times).
The zoo is pretty small, but had a good selection of animals. I went during the winter but most of the animals were out and awake. Including a peacock who was out it’s cage and no one seemed to care. :D
It’s perfect for someone who doesn’t have all day to spend. Plus it’s small enough to deter most tourists (who rather go to the Central Park or Bronx Zoo).

This zoo is small but that’s perfect when you are looking for something to do leisurely. I’ve taken my kids many times before but most recently I went with my daughter for a class trip. The size of the zoo is perfect for the two hours we get to be there.
From what I saw all but one exhibit was opened for you to explore.
I like the interactive features throughout, cow milking, climbing around a «spider web», jumping on lily pad they are fun little things the kids enjoy.
Of course the sea lions steal the show.
My advice for families coming: look to get there after 12:30 during school days. There are so many classes there on trips, with many excited littles so it can get a little hectic and loud. Usually teachers need to be back at school by 1:30 and then you’ll have the place to yourself.

A great local zoo. My daughter loves it and shes only 1.5 years old. My wife and I like to take her for a stroll here on days when its super nice outside. She even makes attempts to feed the animals.
One major flaw they have is that the entrance is a huge stair case with no elevator option and you have to actually physically carry the stroller down and your kid unless your kid is old enough to walk themselves. I feel like this zoo is ideal for kids 2.5y –10 years old.
Seal show is cool. Barn is interesting when the animals are behaving and accepting the food. I will post some great photos later in the week.
We will def be coming back here a few more times this year and in the years to come.

The Prospect Park Zoo is perfect for kids. It’s also perfect for adults like myself who enjoy/​need hands-​on experiences. The Zoo is small, as others have mentioned, but I wasn’t bothered by the size because of the many various animals and activities that were available.
Favorites:
1. Duck Pond (White-​, rainbow-​colored, crazy haired ducks and a black swan) — it was interesting to see different kinds of ducks, outside of the usual species that we see in lakes and ponds. For 50 cents, I had the opportunity to feed the ducks.
2. Feeding the sheep/​cattle
3. Feeding the peacock that freely roam around the zoo
My friend and I visited the zoo on a weekday, during midday, and the weather was a bit gloomy, so we didn’t face any crowd. I’m sure if some group of students came for their field trip or if it was a weekend, the zoo would be an unpleasant experience. So finding an optimal time and day to go is best.

What a great zoo! Not to big not to small just the perfect size. Came here on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded at all which was really nice. My mom and I were able to see all the exhibits they had to offer and it was nice to not have to fight through a crowd to get a glimpse like at the Bronx Zoo.
The real reason I wanted to come here is to see the new otter exhibit that they have there. It was AWESOME! Four adorable otters swimming in their little body of water and looking so happy.
The staff at the zoo was really nice and friendly and you can tell that they really care about the animals. The zoo was extremely clean and had a great selection of animals to look at even though they are a small zoo. One of the coolest animals there was the Dingo which I have never seen, they are beautiful. I feel the main attraction at the zoo would have to be the sea lions. They are very friendly and love to put on a show for you.
I can’t wait to bring my friends back and show them what the prospect zoo has to offer!

This is a great little zoo and though it is one of the smallest in NYC, I find that to be part of its appeal. Although this zoo lacks any large animals, the collection they do have is pretty diverse and special.
I don’t know if it’s that we were only a few of a handful of visitors at the zoo, but the animals were so much more friendly and interactive than I’ve experienced at other zoos. Not to mention, the zoo staff is so nice and friendly. Some of them just come up to you and tell you fun facts about the animal you’re viewing.
Even though it was a chilly day, we were able to see pretty much all of the animals. The sea lions kept swimming by and showing off right in front of us. A few kept jumping out of the water and perching on the side of the wall to pose for pics! The red pandas were crouching in a corner, but when we approached, they came out to climb the branches in front of us and enjoy our fawning attention. Even the baboons came out of their hiding place to sit on the rocks for a few minutes.
Loved the monkeys and pallas cat, but the otters might have been my favorite. They were so playful and cuddly, and kept running up and putting their paws on the barrier to see us better. So. Much. Cuteness. There were some pretty cool birds too.
In my opinion, this is a better zoo than Central Park Zoo and it’s half the cost. If you want the zoo extravaganza, then Bronx Zoo is your best bet.

This is another small but fun zoo! This zoo is also great for kids!
We love this zoo! We had a great time there. This zoo is quite small but somehow we were able to spent about 3 hours there. This zoo is also very clean. The staff were pretty friendly.
If you like animal, you’ll definitely have a great time here like we did. The barn part is definitely interesting. You can see cow, goat, chicken, & more!
It’s only $ 8 to get in & it’s definitely worth it!

I love this place.
Even as an adult I never grow tired if visiting the zoo. I know there’s that whole should animals be there issue but on this issue I’m not sure where I stand so for I know I just enjoy it.
The price isn’t costly at about $ 9 for adults and $ 7 for seniors I believe. This was probably my third time visiting. Brought my mom for mothers day and she loved it. I follow the schedule so I get to see the sea lion feeding (main attraction) and then I just roam around for the rest of the day. You can bring bagged lunches and use the lawns for a picnic if you choose.
There are plenty of animals to see if you’re patient enough to wait for some of them to peak out.

In my 3 years of living in Brooklyn, yesterday was the first time I’ve been to this zoo. It was great.
My nephew and I explored the entire zoo and loved learning about the various animals. The staff was great especially the gentleman in the barn area.
The admission price was reasonable. $ 13 (total) for 1 adult and 1 child ticket — Central Park Zoo would’ve been way more.
The only thing that they need to improve on is their gift shop. It’s so skimpy and not really decorated. Other than that I have no complaints.
