Private Picassos provides custom art lessons and activities throughout the Tri-​State area.

We believe in the intrinsic power of the arts and strive to help build self confidence in our students. In addition to refining our students’ fine motor skills, our program also improves their verbal and visual vocabularies and helps them discover new and exciting art techniques. All of our classes focus on exploration of materials and creative problem-​solving rather than mimicry of adult-​level art mechanics. We emphasize art instruction grounded in the intuitive elements of the fine arts, not merely on arts and crafts.

All of Private Picassos’ art instructors have extensive experience teaching art to students of all ages, and almost all have degrees in art education. Not only have our art teachers been trained in formal art pedagogy and have teaching experience, but they have also made a conscious decision to teach art to children and adults.

Our program is offered throughout the Tri-​State area, including New York City, Long Island, the Hamptons, Westchester, Connecticut, New Jersey and Boston. We also offer museum tours and art birthday parties, as well as programming for parents and adult students.

History

Established in 2006.

Private Picassos was created because of a frustration with the lack of focus and attention in the arts at many public and private institutions. Also, the overwhelming obsession at these institutions with «adult influenced» artwork, where no expression or creativity of the child was reflected, was also a source of disappointment. This led Valeen Bhat, Director and Founder of Private Picassos, to create a unique program that focuses on each student’s skill level, interests, goals, and artistic mind.

Private Picassos believes that everyone is an artist and can create beautiful, interesting artwork when given the correct tools.

Business Owner

The Founder and Director of Private Picassos is Valeen Bhat. Valeen received her BFA/​MS in Art and Design Education, with a minor in Art History and a concentration in printmaking from Pratt Institute. After working at various educational facilities, including museums, early childhood education centers and community centers, she founded Private Picassos. Valeen crafts the core values and philosophy of PP, drawing inspiration from her education, experience, and background. Valeen is deeply knowledgeable and passionate about children’s art education and enjoys working with her students and growing Private Picassos.
