Primp & Polish

I have gone to Primp and Polish for several gel manicures and they have been fabulous. All of them have lasted me 3 weeks, and it is only because my nails are growing out that I need to go back, not because the gel is chipping.
It is always clean, and every manicurist I’ve had has been very nice. Ive only visited the N7 & Bedford location, but I imagine the other locations are the same as well.
The only reason it is 4 stars is because I think their gel manicures are a little bit over priced ($ 40+). With that said, it’s always been a great experience, and a great manicure

Had my nails done here while visiting from Portland… I wish we had something like this! Clean, modern and affordable. Loved the bar and they have every nail polish selection you could ever ask for. Jazz treats her customers and employees with care so the vibe is good all around– I highly recommend!

I had a good first experience at this salon but returned over the weekend for a manicure that held up terribly and wasn’t that impressive from the onset. I contacted the business after every nail had chipped 3 days later and they offered me 10% off my next visit. Can’t say I’ll be returning to save $ 1.80 on an $ 18 manicure that lasts about 8 hours. There are too many options in the city to revisit a nail salon that’s overpriced and doesn’t hold up.

I went to this nail salon on Wednesday for the 1^st time asking on the phone for a fill and a pedicure. As the woman on the phone was very nice, my service was just ok and my result is awful. It is now Monday morning, almost 2 full nails are missing and they look like they’ve been done 3 weeks ago. The topcoat doesn’t even cover all of the polish which also turned a different shade from where it separates from the colored polish. My nails are chipped and I am embarrassed to say that I spent $ 113 on one of the most terrible fills/​pedicures I’ve ever had. Needless to say I will not be returning.

I loved this place once, but they just bumped up the price from $ 35 to $ 50 for a mani/​pedi and it’s not that you get more for your money! I’m usually happy with my manicures, but this time I got hurt and two of my nails are chipped after barely a few hours. That’s unacceptable for $ 50 and I’ll probably be looking for another place to go to soon. I get it, rents are high, but so are they in Manhattan, were I can get a mani/​pedi for your previous rate of $ 35.

I’ve been here twice and have been disappointed both times. The woman who runs the front desk could care less. I asked her about different pedicure options and one that would take dead skin off, she told me it would and then in the middle of the pedicure I needed to have an add on because it didn’t. She also kept coming over in the middle of my pedicure rushing May for another client. I’m a paying client, I don’t deserve to be rushed out of my pedicure. May on the staff is wonderful. I’ve had others and they don’t give a good pedicure, it’s messy and doesn’t last. It’s better to take a quick trip into the city than pay for a pedicure here.

I used to think this was the best deal in town: great mani/​pedi for under $ 40. I came almost every week.
Today, I made my weekly-​ish appointment, showed up, and just as I was picking my color, I overheard 2 women’s surprise as they were checking out. The prices had been raised. A lot. And no one notified them before they received their services. I turned to ask the «hostess» what was going on, and she informed me that they had indeed raised their prices, and a mani/​pedi was now $ 50.
$ 50?! This is NYC, and $ 50 will get you a spa mani/​pedi at most places of this caliber.
I’m sad that primp is no longer my salon of choice, but glad I got out of there before they overcharged me today!

I’m only giving this place one star because the atmosphere is really cute. My friend and I got manicures and pedicures as a birthday celebration with Nikki and Erica. I have never been to a nail salon before where the technicians were straight up rude and unfriendly. My pedicure was mediocre at best. My friends water was cold and she had to tell them to make it warm. The nail techs barely massaged our feet and seemed in a rush while they talked to each other the entire time.(The place was almost empty)
Additionally, my nail polish coating on my manicure wasn’t even. Thankfully it is a light color so it’s not too noticeable. At the end I gave them both of them a $ 6 tip each and neither one of them said thank you. Just grabbed the money and walked away. I thought I was being generous since my manicure and pedicure honestly were awful.
Although the place is cute, this really is a no frills nail salon. They don’t help you out of the pedicure chair or even lift up the chair arm. They don’t help carry your bag to the manicure table which is typical of many other salons. There is no back massage at the end while you are drying, below average manicures and pedicures, and the most unfriendly staff I have ever encountered. Honestly I’ve been to nail salons whose services weren’t as much and had a better job done and experience. Save yourself the time and money and go elsewhere. I wouldn’t return.

Ask for another technician if you get a technician named Coco. Even though I had an hour appointment for both mani /​pedi, the entire process was rushed and I was done within 30 minutes. To give a reference, people before me were still on their pedi as I was hurried to the nail area.
She seemed untrained. There were so many things that wrong about my experience, which makes me think this may be the worst Primp and Polish of them all. She yanked and pulled, instead of cutting my cuticles, which left one of my toes stinging with pain the next day. My polish had uneven coating, and scratches appeared through the polish from her filing the tops of my nails. I didn’t notice until I was half way down the block as I examined my nails.
The most unsettling part of my experience, was the constant reminder to pay her in cash. She told me three times as I was drying that tips are in cash, and even opened the bill fold which had a note reading «Tips in Cash.» I already acknowledged her, but wasn’t going to reach into my purse with wet nails and hand her a tip. I wish I wasn’t treated this way because it’s super convenient being nearby.

A few weeks ago, I had my nails done by CORA. She was truly rude and unprofessional. She filed my nail down until it burned. Since I’m a regular customer, I know the nail technician’s normal procedure on a basic manicure. My nails were all filed unevenly and when I asked her to fix it, she suggested I go to another technician and gave me attitude. I really love this place because it’s extremely clean but management needs to re-​train her or get rid of her. BTW: All of my nails chipped within 2 days. A basic manicure normally lasts me 1 ½ to 2 weeks. The rest of the staff is extremely friendly and professional.

I came to this location with a friend for her pre-​birthday pampering. She made appointments for us the week prior clarifying the services needed (2 gel Manis with designs and pedicures). Upon entry the atmosphere was gorgeous and serene. After the manager Alize was done with client at the desk we check in she then asked who was the client receiving the request manicure, my friend explained that we both needed gel manicures as she requested with hand designs. Alize went on to explain that she only had one gel manicure with designs scheduled and a plain manicure. My friend explained she made that she made the appointment the week prior never received a conformation via email or phone. My friend then took it upon her self to call the day prior to confirm the appointments, when she spoke with the store rep she got the impression that the appointments weren’t documented as she had to restate required services. Alize then stated only one person could get hand designs and maybe the second could receive 2 designs time permitting. We had to reiterate that we both needed gel manicures. She then asked use to choose our color, which there was a plethora of. The gel color were separate so it would have been difficult to match nail polish and gel color if in wanted my toes to match my nails. My friend and I stood at the reception waiting for further direction as it was our 1^st time at the location we were then told our techs were in the pedicure area. I noticed a coat rack were I hung my jacket, I was not asked if I would like to hang my jacket or if assistance was needed. I sat for the pedicure wasn’t asked of the water was to my liking and had to request an adjustment, the pedicure wasn’t anything spectacular my legs were rubbed with war stones which was different for me, but that was it.
Our nail technicians did not introduce themselves but Cora worked with me and May worked with my friend.
While in the pedicure chair we chose our gwl color. My friend and I were done at the same time, quite rapid servic-I’m used to a more lengthy pedicure. I was then told to follow to the manicure areas. My friend’s technician up and left: my friend was not informed to foward to the manicure area and waited for instruction so the technician came looking for her she explained wasn’t told to move to the next area. The manicure areas resembles a bar with stools. I unaware of the pipe which I can assume is there to assist with seating on the seat, and rubbed the polish off three of my toes. I informed Cora she had no problem re-​doing them. She retrieved the requested gel color, my friends tech began her service with out attaining her requested color. My friend was coughing a bit because of allergies and was offered tea or water, I however was never asked if I would like either. We were not going to revisit the fact that we both requested gel. At this point we were determine if we should leave. (Cora and May also carried on their own conversation while working) We waited and May finally got the color requested by my friend. I was asked what design I wanted I said I was unsure and thought there would be an album of some sort. Cora then showed me her instagram account on her iPhone for me to choose a design. This is the only reason I gave 2 stars the art work is phenomenal, the technician and patience put into the work is impressive. There was an employee by the hand washing station on her cell phone and was rather loud which took away from the experience. From the price they charge the service Ned’s to be betrer I have has by far betrer service with more resonance pricing. I may try another location in the future but that is to be determined.

Wowza. I’m not the most girly-​girl. I tend to DIY my manicures (which is painfully obvious a good deal of the time). However, I came to check out Primp & Polish before the New Year and was sooooooo happy that I did!
This location used to be a restaurant with a beautiful backyard garden. Thankfully, when they converted to a nail salon, they kept the backyard as it was and just added the pedicure chairs. It’s was so nice to feel like we were sitting in a tropical garden, even though it was a freezing cold December day. Such great ambiance!
Been back once or twice since and I am always happy with the service. I usually go for the regular old mani /​pedi but my friend swears by their gels. Love it.

Nice polish selection and facilities. I had an appointment for a mani and pedi, my friend was meeting me there for just a pedi. My friend was 10 minutes late to her appointment and they refused to see her. The girl working on me was rushing, and seemed irritated. Didn’t feel like I got what I paid for considering their prices are so high and my manicure chipped the next day. Won’t be going back — total rip off.

I love this place! They can get busy for sure but, they have a few great things that are worth the wait.
1. Clean sterilized tools & facility.
2. Tons of great colors from great companies.
3. Refreshments.
4. Trained and friendly professionals who won’t talk your ear off!
5. Overall great service.
You get what you pay for! Cindy does my UV gel extensions that she keeps in tip top shape. I can’t say enough good things about how professional she is.

If you have ever needed that extra something on a cold winter day may I suggest you find it at Prime and Polish. The all white décor stands as the perfect canvas for the thousands of colored polishes that line the walls. Smooth music, intoxicating aromas and hot stone massages awaiting. Nikki my nail artist was a pro. She offered me a hot tea and it warmed my soul. I got all black everything (toes and fingernails). I will find myself here as much as possible. Oh and make a appointment to avoid waiting because other smart people know about this place as well.

Okay I was satisfied with this place the last couple times I came even with their high prices but I have to change my rating because as I’m sitting here waiting around for a half hour when I made an appointment as I watch them start manicures on walk-​ins because they’re regulars really makes me angry. I could go get a quality manicure anywhere for much much cheaper. I come here for the ambiance and the service which I did not get today. On top of it no one has even said hello to me or approached me to tell me what the hold up is. It’s as though they just sat me in the manicure chair and now I’m invisible.

I like this place. Coming from LA where the services are good but basics, we are enchanted to have this full service included in the pedicure. They work really well. Even last time, my skin was very dry. And the person taking care of me came back quickly while I Was drying to put some cuticle oil.
The missing star is for the «point system». Not sure that it really works. I am going there since month of May and I never got a reward or anything. Also, the ladies are not always consistent in their excellent work.
I’m going back there each time anyways.

Was walking to The Meatball Shop to have dinner the night before and HAD to make an appointment immediately! I had never seen a «nail bar» like this place before and thought it was super cute. I LOVE nail polish and they have all types of colors from the best brands (OPI, Essie…), as well as a plethora of gel polishes and high-​end polish.
My manicurist was very professional, skilled and sweet. I take very good care of my nails and she made sure to keep them that way. She was careful yet quick. May nails also dried rather quickly.
Definitely will go back. I fasho want to see what their pedicures are like (looks cool from what I saw in the back). Highly recommended!

I had time to kill before an evening flight on my last day in Brooklyn. I wanted to get a mani pedi to unwind from all the walking of the city I did the previous days. I chose here because of the photos and reviews, although mixed they didn’t stop me. When I first walked in I was nervous because no one was greeting me, staff would just stare, and reception wasn’t the warmest.
All changed when my service started. I first had my pedi on the enclosed patio in a massage chair and nearly fell asleep from relaxation. It wasn’t rushed, and I truly felt pampered.
After that we moved indoors for the mani. Cool part? There is a slot for your feet with compressed air that drys your toe nails while getting your nails done!
Overall my nails turned out fabulous and I was there for a total of 1 ½hrs out of preference really.
Annoying part? There were two very vocal ladies who crashed the zen party half way into my pedicure. By the looks of it though the staff wasn’t very entertained by them either.
P. s. AVA did both my hands and toes. I would definitely continue to see her if I lived in the area!
