Painting Lounge

Been here twice with the groupon deal its much more affordable. Makes for a fun date night, you wont necessarily learn any new techniques, its more of a step by step instruction that eventually leaves you with a finished product.

I experienced paint night for the first time tonight. Our paint instructor was Chris and he was great from start to finish. Some ppl came in late after we and he was able to accommodate them and bring them up to speed while still managing to keep us engaged with the next steps. I didn’t know it was BYOB so I ran to the store on the corner and bought some wine and that’s what smoothed eveything out for me. The painting we did was «A Walk In The Rain» and I didn’t think it was gonna come out great but I was extremely pleased with the finished product. This is definitely something that I would do again.

I have painted at this location twice, and I always have fun. The first time, I went solo and I felt a bit awkward because everyone else came with a partner or friend. The second time I dragged a girlfriend along, and brought a bottle of wine for us to sip.
We both had a blast! I did notice your enjoyment depends on the instructor and how friendly he or her is. The first instructor a year ago was a guy, he wasn’t that down to earth, and we sorta avoided asking too many questions. Last night we had Sabrina (I think after a few sips I can’t be 100%). Her name aside she really put us at ease, slowly directed us, and went around giving one on one help to anyone who asked.
The only darn con is I had no cash on me, so I was unable to tip her. Which makes me feel horrible. I had a blast and I will be back!

My husband and I had a wonderful time, the instructor was Jon and he was great he answered all the questions we had and he made this class fun

The 5 of us used Groupons for a Friday night 3-​hour advanced session with a very cheerful instructor. He was great at reassuring those of us who took it too seriously, and helping wherever needed. The process makes sense, and was timed properly for everyone to finish and leave with finished pieces of varying qualities. Not sure I’d pay full freight, but a nice change, BYOB or not.

Excellent class that requires absolutely no artistic talent. Everyone in the class had a great piece. Make sure you get there a few minutes early. They have hangers and cubbies to put your belongings. The class was more fun than I expected and Chris did a great job of explaining and encouraging. I will DEFINITELY be coming back.

I wanted to take my mother out for her birthday but wasn’t interested in the typical bar/​lounge painting scene. Painting Lounge sounded like a nice alternative and it was a plus they had their own studio right in Willamsburg.
The large front windows of the studio were nice and worked in their favor as free publicity. People were walking by and stopping to watch us paint; some even for 15 – 20 minutes. But there was also a guy that went to the extent to interrupt our class. He opened the door and called our instructor out of the classroom, how rude? (Michelle from Full House voice)
We were the first ones there and Emit, our instructor asked us our names, checked us off his list and told us to pick a seat. The painting was of Moderate level and I was happy we had a small photo of the original clipped onto the canvas for reference. Our class consisted of families and couples, some that were beginners like us which made us very comfortable.
Emit was pretty informative but I noticed he would forget to tell us certain details (add the reflection of every color of leaf into the water, the leaves require a certain brushstroke). He got a lil caught up in creating his own masterpiece, that’s why next time I’ll be sure to book an Easy level class. I feel those instructors will be more hands on, atleast I hope.
We tried our best to recreate the original painting and my mom was happy with hers; I was content with mine. Overall we enjoyed ourselved and are already planning to bring my dad so he can create his own «masterpiece».

This was a great experience! I will try to come back frequently, the only thing missing is wine!

Great living social deal or you can book directly with them and they’ll honor the same price, $ 30 for two people for a 2hour class with all supplies included, great deal. I was a bit apprehensive about doing this but it surprisingly turned out really well, Chris-​the instructor was really helpful and led us step by step. Would definitely recommend this to couples or a group looking to try something new for a couple of hours.

I was here was my mother and a couple of friends yesterday for a class. I found this place off of Groupon when I was trying to find a fun activity to celebrate my mother’s birthday. This place was great. The instructor Beata, didn’t quick catch her last name, was lovely and fun and interacted with everyone. She made sure everyone was doing good and who ever needed help she tended to them. The atmosphere was great, my side of the bunch were a bit loud BUT it was my mother’s birthday so it was acceptable haha. Overall, it’s a great place to paint, great place to celebrate a birthday or any celebration, great music, great instructor, and a great place to have fun. ALSO you do not need to have any drawing skills to paint here, my friend and I aren’t the best and we survived with masterpieces! Lol

Came here a couple of Months ago with a friend, using a groupon.
It’s fun. The instructor was friendly, she made a connection with everyone.
I have an art degree (nose in the air haha jk) so I really just came supporting my friend and for the experience and I must say its a great time! The instructors show interest in your work and helped people that fell behind. It’s kind of a paint with numbers except she suggests where to put the color and some let their creative juices flow which was very interesting to see.
Fun time would def do it again !

These painting classes seem to be getting more and more popular. I see pictures of people attending them everywhere. Despite my lack of any artistic ability, I really enjoyed this class.
The teacher slowly went through what color to use for each section of the picture. What to blend, and even went around helping each person. I’m amazing at how easily she can blend colors to make it look nice even on my ruined parts of the painting.
We used a Gilt City discount, so we only paid about $ 20. Otherwise I assume it would be quite expensive. I never thought I would have the patience to paint, but this was actually quite relaxing. You can come with a group of friends, by yourself, or with your significant other, but I think it’s really great to go with a group of girls.

My friend and I had a great time at the painting lounge. Even though we were all painting the same picture, each painting was surprisingly unique. The instructor was really nice, offering constructive criticism as we went along instead of just letting us make a mess which I definitely appreciated.
Note: They haven’t been BYOB for about a year. The Manhattan location recently started allowing it again, but it sounds like it’ll be a while before the Brooklyn location can go back to being BYOB.

This place is so fun. You’re not scared walking in but maybe a little worried about how your painting will turn out. I figured I would either paint something great or something ridiculous (and hilarity ensues). Pretty soon, things start to take shape though and it just keeps getting better. The class is over and I realize i’m a great painter! Mine is still hanging in the hallway and people ask about it. Definitely fun and you walk away with something you can be proud of.

The sense of accomplishment you feel after a class is almost like a high. The last time I played with paint was probably in elementary school, and I was able to walk out with a pretty good replica! Not gonna lie, I was proud.
The instructor stood at the front of the room and painted with us as she gave instructions, so we saw what she was talking about. She also walked around and helped anyone who needed it. Even though everyone painted the same picture, no two were the same. My class lasted 2.5 hours and it absolutely flew by! This was my first time doing something like this and I can’t wait for more.
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Plus the music was on point! Look for deals or else you’ll be forking over $ 50 – 60 per class.

What fun! If you’ve never painted a day in your life, you can come to Painting Lounge and still produce a beauty!
My aunt, my sisters and I ventured out to Williamsburg on a FREEZING Friday night (at the height of the polar vortex) for the Starry Night over Brooklyn Bridge class. Every stroke and detail is already planned out for you. All you really need to do is follow the instructor and you’re guaranteed to come out of Painting Lounge with a decently good looking replica. They provide the stretched canvas, the acrylic paint, three heavily used brushes, a smock and the talent. All you need to do is bring yourself and copy. :)
The three hour time frame given to you is definitely not enough to finish this particular elaborate painting but our instructor was very nice and let us stay a bit longer. Another thing to note is that at the time of our class, the BYOB part was suspended. I think the city is cracking down on these wine and painting classes. :(

Great experience with some girlfriends. No art skills needed. Bernard our teacher, was patient and took his time. The class even lasted 45 mins longer!

Awesome place for people of any skill level. You can’t mess this up! It’s a paint by numbers kind of place taught by a really laid back instructor that helps guide you through the process.
When you first walk in there are two tables with painting canvases and easels set up ready for painting. A rough sketch of the painting is placed over the canvas where you use contact paper to transfer the lines onto the canvas. From there you’re ready to start mixing colors and start painting!
We did the stars over Paris painting this past Sunday 12−22−13 and had a blast. We stayed longer than the 2.5 hours and they didn’t rush us out or anything. After you’re done you can get your painting framed for a nominal fee, but we chose not to.
I would recommend this place as an alternative date option for everyone.
Note it’s NOT byob and they do have a bathroom now. We parked on the street down the block without any problem

Recently visited again to paint Magic Tree «Summer». The two hours flew by quickly and although this time the class was pretty small (only four people), we somehow managed to have even more fun!
The teacher (sorry, I can’t remember her name, but she also lead us through the Klimt painting during my first visit as well) is so personable and easygoing. She makes the class a lot of fun and not intimidating at all.
Even though the weather was bad and it was a weeknight, she still did not rush us out and pretty much let everyone finish at their own pace.
I can’t wait to paint at the Painting Lounge again! What fun!

I haven’t had this much fun in a classroom setting since Kindergarten!
Through a Zozi deal, I booked a Saturday afternoon class to paint my own version of Gustav Klimt’s «Tree of Life» (
). I brought my bf here as a birthday treat, and we were in great company with some random strangers, and our good friends, Isabella & Marco.
Our instructor, Julie, was so laid back, and sweet, and very accommodating. She let us sit together as a group, and diligently took photos, all while instructing us non-​artists to learn how to mix colors and paint the image to reflect Klimt’s vision. Of course, at some point, everyone took some liberties to express their natural artistic inclinations and went to town on that canvas. Some were incredible, others were mediocre at best (mine for instance, ha)! The best part was being able to take our paintings home.
The BYOB concept is a truly good call, as you can bring any beverage of your choice. Alcoholic or non. Everyone comes relaxed and ready to have a blast while being blasted. It’s genius.
They offer a bevy of classes for all time-​slots, and their website is very easy to navigate (
). I would highly recommend the Painting Lounge as a fun experience for any and all.
