4 months ago I would have given them 5 stars. But then I placed an order including 6 cases of ice tea and they gave me six bottles instead. No big deal — mistakes happen, but then the problems began. I called them, no answer. I emailed them, no reply. I finally had to file a charge dispute through my CC company and get my $ back. They are an awful, irresponsible company.

This is my first and last time ordering from Organic Direct. I received my order and found ALL of the produce unacceptable. The bananas were GREY and there was mold on the cucumber in five different places. I am extremely disappointed. The hummus had mold on it as well. I really cannot believe no one checked these items before sending them out.
I contacted the company via email as they only have an answering machine telling you to email them. I wish i could’ve properly vented at a live person. They wrote me back and removed the bananas and cumbers from my order. I wrote them back and reminded them that I spent $ 100 on inedible produce and got no response.

First of all the food is over priced … Whole Foods is cheaper. The «organic fruits» taste horrible, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just placed an organic sticker on the fruits. I placed an order and was running late so the driver left 7 pints of ice cream outside my door. I called and complained and was told that my other option would have been to for the driver to take the food and charge my card the full price of my order. Okay so let me get this straight no food, but I still have to pay. Huh???
Never again hope Fresh Direct will deliver to my building soon.

Complete disaster start to finish… I too took advantage of the $ 25 for $ 50 offer and after many stall tactics and lame excuses suddenly the money was refunded without even as much as an apology from the business.
Those who had their orders filled had horror story upon horror story about late deliveries, deliveries being canceled at the last minute, deliveries never showing up, and missing items.
I had been recently toying with the idea of organic grocery delivery as I was sick of being a slave to my CSA. I actually tried to try Organic Direct first and after how completely unprofessional they are they will never see a penny of my business. I recently tried Urban Organic which has Whole Foods quality organic produce at a much fairer price. Their site isn’t particularly fancy but for the most part my experience has been good and the quality can’t be beat.
Would just like to also point out that Eugene K who left a positive review of Organic Direct and a negative review of Urban Organic is also the head of marketing at Organic Direct. Shady…

Seriously, you’re charging my card over a MONTH past when I placed my order?! Not only that, you charged me one amount in Feb when I placed the order and another amount this week. Although the two totals match my invoice, why are you charging various amounts with a month in between? Get it together OD!

It was really disappointing all the Groupon thing, what kind of marketing manager do they have? Don’t they know the amount of people who buys groupon? You only have to check past deals and compare, they even did one with Freshdirect, that should have given them an idea. Because so many people buy is the reason why you give a longer period to redeem, but no, they expected to serve all that people in just some weeks… I agree it is pricey, and the selection is not broad, but I have so little options I really felt that after using my groupon I was going to keep using them. Now, I will not only not use them, I will recommend anyone not to, because they really let us down. Shame on them…

Prices are twice as much as Fairways. Almost in every case, literally. Selection was extremely limited. Delivery times were limited and were weeks in the future. Still, I made my order.
Two weeks pass. I am looking forward to my groceries being delivered the next day. But, Organic Derelict has other plans and breaks our delivery date by email, saying a new time will be scheduled soon. I email them for a week asking for more information and I get no response. Eventually they cancel my whole order. Entirely.
I really don’t think it could have been worse, unless Organic Direct showed up with my delivery and it was just boxes of fire. And rabid bears were carrying the boxes of fire.

Wow. Where to begin?
When Groupon offered $ 25 for $ 50 worth of groceries from Organic Direct, I was psyched! (Keep in mind, I’ve used Groupon in the past and had no problems with them as a company.)
After paying for my coupon and going to the website to shop, I realized I should have checked out the website before purchasing the coupon. The prices at this site are out of control! A store like Whole Foods or Trader Joes offers quite lower prices for the same items. But I figured, hey, even if the items are expensive, I’m getting $ 25 worth of groceries for free!
But picking out $ 50 worth of groceries was hard — I figured I could stock up on pantry staples, but a part of me felt like why even bother, it’s so expensive, I can walk down the block and get the same things. Even though I kept telling myself that I’m saving money in the long run, I felt almost guilty for paying OrganicDirect’s inflated prices.
After picking out $ 50 worth of food (and it took awhile!), I went to select a delivery date and was dismayed to realize I would have to wait two weeks — three actually, since I wouldn’t be home the first date they were able to deliver.
So that puts us now, three weeks after placing my order. The night before my order was scheduled to be delivered, I got an email from OrganicDirect informing me that my order was canceled. THE NIGHT BEFORE. In what world is this professional?
Now, look, I realize that a lot of people buy Groupons, and that it’s possible that the company was overwhelmed. But the proper way to deal with that is to make the customers happy — NOT make them mad.
I may devote an entire day to sharing my story with the Internet, because I am just shocked that a company would A) think they could get away with overcharging customers, especially when places like Whole Foods (delivery) and Fresh Direct exist in the NYC area, and B) think that it’s okay to cancel someone’s delivery with a few hours notice. What if I had taken the day off to receive this delivery? What if I had changed around my day?
I am so appalled. I hope this company goes out of business.
EDIT: While searching online for other reviews, I found two five star reviews on Citysearch linking to
— both reviews are from people with the last name «Vaserman.» Then I decided, just for fun, to do a
search — WHAT DO I FIND? The domain is registered under a Mr. Vaserman! Shady, scummy people who are trying to make a quick buck off consumers who care about the quality of their food.
EDIT X2: If you go to Unilocal’s «about this business» tab, it gives contact information for the business — the marketing manager is someone named Eugene K — hmmm why am I not surprised to find that a review on Citysearch giving OrganicDirect five stars was authored by someone named Eugene?
I would not be surprised to find out that the one positive review about OrganicDirect on Unilocal was written by someone associated with this business, since the three other positive reviews on the Internet are written by the owners/​employees of the website.

I too took advantage of the Groupon deal thinking I would use them if everything was cool and they were as easy to use as Fresh Direct.
Like an earlier review, the first available delivery date was 3 weeks into the future and they don’t tell you that until you have completed your order and given credit card information.
Their prices are sky high and their emails were kind of curt.
Now, they appear to have canceled all the Groupon orders so in effect, they have gotten our names, addresses and credit card information and have provided no product or service.
Bunch of losers.

Terrible experience thus far. I too had gone to organic direct to redeem my groupon. After trying really hard to find $ 50 worth of groceries I could actually use (which took a really long time due to their awful and puny selection) I tried checking out. When I tried I got this:

Order canceled… OD and Groupon you’ve been bad boys

I just got an email telling me my order has been cancelled, and my 25 groupon dollars will be refunded, and that i get an extra $ 5 credit at groupon for compensation.
The email said something about how they thought they could manage the influx, but then realized they couldn’t handle the high volume of new customers.
I can empathize, because we all make mistakes /​underestimate the amount of resources needed to complete a job.
BUT! Someone definitely made an epic fail here, and I’m still angry that I spent countless hours picking out food that never came to me.
FreshDirect all the way. I will never order from this place ever again.

I took advantage of a great Groupon deal for Organic Direct ($ 50 worth of groceries for $ 25), but unfortunately, will not be using this service again. The prices are outrageous, but I can almost understand that since they are a grocery delivery service and delivery is free. However, I didn’t receive 2 of the items that I ordered. One of them I wasn’t charged for (out of stock), but the other one I was. When I contacted Organic Direct about my missing item, they gave me a credit because they do not issue refunds. However, since I will not be ordering from them again (minimum order is $ 50), I basically paid $ 6.49 for a pint of Purely Decadent non-​dairy frozen dessert for nothing. I contacted Organic Direct again to address this matter, but never heard back from them. Also, I ordered some fresh hummus (which they make), but it was spoiled and I had to throw it away. And last but not least, my delivery was supposed to arrive sometime btw. 7−9pm, and it did not arrive until 9:40pm.

I wish there was an option for no stars b/​c this place is so unreliable and I have no idea how they are still in business today. My husband got the $ 50 groupon for $ 25 which we thought was a great deal. Their website has absolutely 0 options and everything is completely overpriced. I made the order and they were supposed to deliver tonight. They emailed me TODAY to cancel my delivery. They said they are suspending all delivery from groupon and I can either cancel my order or they will reschedule it for me. They are completely unreliable and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they want to get ripped off. I canceled my order and will never shop from this place again and I don’t recommend this place to anyone. I just think if your going to give a promotion you should stick with your word. My only regret is that I wasted my time checking out their website (poorly made). Freshdirect is 100times better than this place and I will only stick to freshdirect from now.

Customer service should always start with… oh, I don’t know, HAVING customer service. I did the 25 dollar Groupon for 50 dollars worth of food. I put my order in, the food arrived punctually. Only, they were out of a few things I ordered. Instead of notifying me, so that I could make some substitutions pre-​delivery, they dropped an incomplete order at my door.
Not even an email to notify me?
I emailed them. No response. I called them and was told that I now had a credit to their company. But since I used the Groupon, I was stiffed a few dollars. Not sure how they calculated the credit I was to receive, but now it no longer boils down to buying 50 dollars worth of product for half the price.
Waste of time.

I was supposed to get a delivery between 6 – 9. I called the company asking when they expected to arrive and they first said 9. When I called again at 845 they said the delivery guy was running late and to expect him by 10:30. I NEVER got an email or call. I called them! Then they never even showed up. Very dissapointed. Wasted me whole night and now I don’t even know if I will get my money back.
