NYC Pet

This place never has consistent supplies of the dog food I bought from them originally and they generally don’t care that much about their customers. After a year of frustration I’m taking my business to PS9 Pet Supplies round the corner on North 9^th Street.

This place is decidedly fine — also not sure what the poor reviews are about. They stock plenty of different grain-​free cat foods, so I never have an issue finding what I need. They will also deliver same-​day to your apartment for LESS THAN $ 5, which is awesome.
Are the staff overly helpful? Maybe not, but they’ve always been prompt and easy to deal with. Not sure what else people want out of a pet store…
I’ll keep coming back.

I’m not sure what the bad reviews are about. I had a great experience there.
The staff was very helpful, with one girl running to the back to look for and bring me a large dog crate, another guy talking me through all the necessities of first-​time dog ownership without pushing anything on me (he did talk a lot, but I don’t mind that!). I had to leave the stuff there without purchasing but left my address and when I called the next day, they rang me up over the phone, gave me a delivery window of between noon and 2pm, the delivery guy arrived exactly at noon and I was able to pay cash. Delivery charge was only $ 2 which was well worth me not having to haul a dog crate a mile.
Also if you adopt a dog from Badass Animal Rescue, you get a 10% discount!
They only get minus one star for their return policy. I think you should be able to get your money back for unused products.

They keep a single parakeet in a tiny cage at this store. This is not humane. Birds were meant to fly, and they are social creatures, if you are going to have a bird, at the very least keep it in a large cage with cagemates to keep it company. I emailed the business about this two times, and never heard back. This sort of treatment of an animal sets a bad example for other pet owners, and does not reflect well on the image of the store. If they were to address the problem, I would change my review.
Also the people who work at the store are always being sullen and make you feel like your time spent purchasing something is getting in the way of their busy day.

I always go to the NYC Pet on Bedford and they are ok in there, but the one on Driggs is probably the most unfriendly non-​caring store I have ever been to.
The first time I went in a few months ago, one of employees had his 3 year old son riding around the aisles in one of those little toy cars that you move with your feet. The kid was coming around corners like a crazy driver and being 3, was not conscious of anyone with their dogs in the store. His dad wasn’t even watching him. I left before my dog was injured.
I was turned off the first time but thought, ok maybe it’s not like this everyday. The second time I went in, it was just to get some water for my dog. I peaked in and asked where their dog water bowl was and a guy at the counter said, «over here» in an extremely rude tone. So i walked down the 2 or 3 steps towards the counter and still didn’t see the bowl. I told him i couldn’t find it and he rolled his eyes and pointed to the ground in front of the counter. There was a cat litter sitting there with maybe an inch of water in it and filled with dirt and bits of mulch. I could not believe that this was in a pet store– I had just come from the dog park and the bowls looked better there and had cleaner water in them– and the people that took care of the dog park aren’t even PAID TO DO IT.
I just looked at the guy and told him he needed to change the water.
All around a bad experience, I will not be going back.

Best pet supply store in Brooklyn hands down. They have the biggest selection of food, treats and toys at really good prices. And THEY DELIVER! Jasmine, Eddie and Danny are always super friendly and knowledgable. Did I mention how awesome Jasmine is?

They have a great selection of pet supplies. Probably the biggest selection of toys, treats, and food that I’ve seen for dogs. Other places are so small and only carry a narrow selection of brands. They’re also pretty well staffed, the staff is nice, and I’ve just always had a great experience here. They have a funny cat in the store, too, to give it that extra cozy touch.

Bought an automatic pet feeder for my cats. It didn’t work at all. It wouldn’t power on with AC power or batteries. It was clearly a faulty product. When I tried to return it, they would only do in-​store credit.
I can understand this policy for exchanging items you didn’t like, or didn’t fit, etc. But THEY SOLD ME A BROKEN PRODUCT, I think I deserve a monetary refund.
The owner said this is store policy, he was very robotic and unsympathetic.
This applies to both the manhattan ave and driggs ave locations, it’s the same owner.

Not much different than other NYC Pet stores, but this one has a cat. I’m not allergic to cats, but I am averse to a litter box full of cat poops (I mean it must have been at least a week since it was cleaned) that makes the entire wall of dog toys smell like feces. Besides, hope you have an hour to spare. The manager/​owner will talk your ear off if you so much as look at him.

Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. It’s a decent pet store, always has what I need cat-​food wise and above all is clean and doesn’t smell like pets (which most small pet stores do). The two that run it are friendly and clearly care about their pets. Also, good mojo that they have cat and dog adoption events.

Bad customer service.
I went to get dog food and when I got to the counter, there were 2 registers with 2 employees working on each. Neither of them even looked at me for few minutes.
Finally one of them mumbled something, so I handed him my card. Then he mumbled couple times without looking away from the computer screen. FInally I understood what he was saying, which was the «credit card machine doesn’t work.»
I wasn’t even asking for help. I just wanted to pay.

Avoid this place like the plaugue. I have a small Pomeranian and at 11am I bought a toy for him, in 2 hours he was already able to rip the tissue from the stuffed toy.
So I went back thinking to exchange it with two other toys and some treats. When I got to the cash register a very rude employee told me he could to exchange it as toys won’t last forever, he proceeded to tell me the toy was not appropriate for my dog. I left very disappointed. Awful customer service.

The customer service at this location is appalling. I went in looking for a cat toy and when I didn’t see the one I was looking for I asked the guy at the counter if he knew if the Bedford location had different things or all the same. It was a casual question, but his response was «I don’t know, but I’m not calling over there and asking them to go through every single item to see if they have the one you want.» Okay, not that I was asking you do to anything, but isn’t that kind of your job?
Another employee standing nearby grabbed a package out of my hand to look at it after I asked a question about the item, scratching me with his jagged nails in the process, and then obviously lying about the materials of the item. The whole experience was repulsive. I’ll never go back. Also, it smells really badly in there.

The staff here are completely sweet and helpful, their store cat is adorable, and OMAR from The Wire shops for his mini-​pins here. I see no reason to buy my cat food anywhere else.

Seems extremely overpriced. Staff is always nice but the two times Ive been in did not buy anything…
