New York Community Hospital

Took my husband to the ER w/​chest pains — they saw him immediately! The doctors and nurses were very attentive — it’s a small unit and the care was quite good. The nurses and doctors seemed to have good working relationships (which is always a plus). My husband needed an angiogram and was moved directly to Cornell Medical Center which was excellent. A very positive experience all around. This was our 3^rd experience w/​NY Community Hospital, and each time we’ve been extremely satisfied with the care.

I have been involved in medical advocacy for 20 years and never been more disappointment in the professionalism of a hospital; rude nurses and misdiagnosis by doctors. The nurses do not post their names on the wall and my friend did not have a beeper to call a nurse if in need. She waited 10 ours after admission to see a doctor only to have one tell her she had nothing wrong. My complaints to the nurse where met with agressive bullshit about needing a power of attorney to speak to me in her presence. We are about to leave and will never return. Refuse any ambulance that recommends this hospital.

I had to visit the emergency room after an accidental fall a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning. (Satisfied with ER wait time) Every single person who came in contact with was very pleasant and very kind towards me. I had to revisit the hospital for surgery due to my accidental fall and once again everyone was patient with me; from the wheel chair transporter, to the female who checked me in into ambulatory surgery, to the podiatry residents, to the nurses, and to the doctors. I ended up being admitted due to things running slightly behind schedule for my surgery. The hospital is clean and well kept. The facilities representatives came to mop and take out garbage at least twice during my night. The nurses came to check up on me atleast one to two times every hour for the night. Let’s face it A hospital is a very unexpected place to be but at least during those moments where it is necessary because life may have thrown you a curve ball, I must say this place sure does take the edge off of it all. I once was admitted to this hospital, I had gallbladder stones attack, I was in a lot of pain, it took them almost 2 hours to finally look at me, nurse tried to draw blood, it took 7 tries to take blood, at the end she put the iv wrong way, she missed the vein, my hand was swollen, the worst experience ever in my life. …

My wife’s ER experience with the er at nych was very pleasant. All the staff are well mannered and trained well in the high stress environment. The head nurse I believe Ms. Stepahnie Zogby had the entire staff under control. She is calm and pleasant to be around. Their bedside manner are outsatanding to everyone from the front desk with nurse sparks and nurse soudousta to the patients. The hospital is small but very clean. Cleaning staff is on premise for immediate cleanup. We had doctor Dharmasena and he appeared to be very very calm for an er doctor which is very good. He is there to explain in detail about whats going on with patient and if ask he is willing to go further to help you understand the diagnosis.
The wait from waiting room into triage was quick. About an hour. they treat you right away and they do all test immediately or within reasonable time depend on the traffic of the time.

My elderly mom fell today and we needed to get her x-​rayed. I remembered reading that NY Community Hospital was rated as having one of the shortest average ER wait times in Brooklyn, so we went there. I really can’t complain at all about our experience. Everything really was A-​OK. We were in and out in about 2 hours. There were a couple of families in the waiting room when we got there. My mom was seen by triage immediately, and x-​rayed within a few minutes, then moved to an exam room. She did have a fracture so the doctor gave her a temporary cast, something for pain, an Rx for later, and her films to take to her orthopedist. All of the staff who dealt with us were polite, concerned and very helpful, and it was great to see that they are nice to each other as well. The x-​ray tech joked that the system he was using is obsolete but gets the job done, and yeah nothing there looks new. This hospital is a rinky-​dink but it was the perfect place for quick and caring service.
UPDATE: After seeing the orthopedist, I up the ER’s rating from 3 to 4 stars. The ER’s x-​rays were fine and the orthopedist didn’t need to retake any. The orthopedist and his PA agreed with everything the ER doc had said and done. They also commented that they think NY Community does a good job.

Worst hospital ever !!! Home to the rudest nurses there are. Complete chaos !!!

I personally had a bad experience here, but when they kept my father in the ER and then a hallway for 3 days without seeing a doctor and then charging him $ 8000? If I ever was in an emergency I’d beg the ambulance driver to bring me to Kings County instead of NYCH.
Phone customer service is horrible. You can wait on hold for minimum 30 minutes and there is an actual option to have them return your phone call within 24hrs??? (That’s what I want to do, wait for them to call me back within a time span between 5 minutes and 24hrs).

A good hospital for the local community on kings hwy…
Since its on a smaller scale, the atmosphere is friendly with lesser waiting times…

Great hospital! I came here for a kidney infection and they gave me a urinary catheter and an IV and the next day I was UTI free. The waiting room is not crowded and the nurses are mostly White American. Best hospital I’ve been to yet!
