Mr C’s Cycles

Mr. C’s is my neighborhood shop, but I think I really lucked out. I bought my bike there for commuting, and they helped me choose a bike that has been *perfect* for my needs, including some pretty arbitrary preferences. I worried at first that I’d overpaid for the bike, but looking around it seems very fair given the upgrades that they’d applied to the base model I could find online.
Since I bought it, I’ve gone back to them about ²⁄₃ of the time (the other third at a shop near my office, super convenient). With one exception, each trip has been exactly what I’d hope for — prompt service, clear discussion and expectations set, and I get my money’s worth. The one exception was that they steered me toward a rear light that was a real dud. The first one broke within 2 days, and Mr. C replaced it, free of charge. When the second broke before I even got home, I bailed and got different lights from the place near my office. Mr. C’s was very kind, I just didn’t want what they were giving me. Next time I came in, they offered another replacement, so I really can’t fault their service. I was just done.
Finally, when I’ve been interested in advice or chatting about the community, it’s clear that they are tapped in — that they have a lot of return customers of various skill levels and interests. I appreciate that, and those discussions have always gotten my questions answered, even when we needed to switch staff member to be good on language barriers.
So: they’ve given good advice but that once, and I’ve probably bought over $ 1k from them over 3 years. Their service (both the people and the work on my bike) has been great. What else are you looking for?

Since Im new to biking I didnt know what was wrong with my wheel when I brough it in. I just knew it needed fixing. I told the owner. He quickly diagnosed the problem. Turns out the inner tubbing popped. In and out in less than 10 minutes. Painless experience. Will certainly come back for any future repairs.

As a non-​native English speaker, going to a bike repair shop sounds a little frightening from the beginning: I know there will be a thousand bike-​related words that I won’t know, but at the same time, I’ll have to sound cool and pretend to be a specialist, so they won’t rip me off.
I had two very specific things to solve: (1) my brakes weren’t working properly and (2) I had no shift llever for the back gears. When I walked into Mr. C’s Cycles, it was still morning time, they had just opened the store (10:30ish am), which was pretty empty and pleasant.
The first red alert was that after I explained what I wanted, the guy said: «You want a tune up». This has happened before: a very general and expensive solution to a very specific demand. I even asked about doing specific fixes, but he convinced me I needed a tune up.
I decided to give it a try: $ 60 for a tune up + $ 22 for the shift levers themselves. I was told that I would get a call if my bike was ready still that day, but I could certainly show up the next day to pick it up (which was the second red alert, since I was one the first clients that day).
Around 11am the next day, I showed up and the same guy, who was helping another person, just shouted at me: «You’re bike is still not ready because we had to do some other stuff, we’ll give you a call!». In other words: I wasted some time going there, but that was ok, I guess…
At 6pm that same day (that is, almost two entire workdays after I left my bike there), I got a very kind call from Mr. C’s Cyles, explaining me that my bike was ready, but that they had to do some other stuff, so the price would actually be $ 143, instead of the initial $ 82.
In my opinion, this is UNACCEPTABLE: you call a client just to inform that his repair has been done, but would cost an extra $ 60. I went there and tried to negotiate (which I’m also very bad at), but the only thing I could get was a $ 13 discount if I paid in cash.
I got home feeling really ripped off, which as some of you may know, is one of the worst feelings you can get. Anyways, they promised me assistance with further repairs in my bike if anything else gets wrong, which I’m highly doubtful that they would actually do for free.
From my general experience, Mr. C’s Cycles is very disorganized and overpriced, and it also treats its clients really bad, so I recommend you DON’T GO there and find another bike repair shop instead, if you don’t want to get any $ 60 surprises as I did.

These guys are seriously the best. I called Carlos in desperation at 4pm on a Thursday asking for help in locating a part for a Thule part for my roof rack and he had it in the store by 11am the next morning… from Colorado. He went the extra mile for me and I had never met him or shopped there before. Highly recommended… these guys are the BEST for customer service!

I have been looking for a cruiser bike, something to bike on Ocean Pkwy or by the water with, nothing fancy. I really like Huffy bikes both for their looks and super comfortable seats (without the tacky silicone look). Since they don’t offer Huffy bikes (I do agree that they’re not the best bikes but they’re affordable and look nice and I don’t use bikes enough to justify spending too much on them), they offered to assemble it for me for $ 50 — sounds reasonable — so I bought it and shipped it to them and they had it ready the next day.
The following day, the basket looked shaky and sure enough it came flying forward as I was biking. I had my u-​lock, so I fixed it to the rest of the bike with that and went back to the shop. They took it right away and not only screwed in the basket better this time but also checked out the rest of the bike to make sure it’s all fine and they let me watch (Igor was very nice) while they did it and put on front and back lights I happened to buy somewhere else. All of this was done free of charge. They seem very interested in the community, Carlos was even giving me tips about other things. I hope I don’t have to make frequent stops but I do know that if I ever need something, they’ll be the ones I’ll go to.

This guy definitely goes out of his way to give you the best service he can and is honest and up front about what he can offer you. I bought the Prodeco Electric Bike Shadow X2 from him and love it and ride it daily to and from work 26 miles round trip. Works great for the last two months. However I’m going to be trying ceramic break pads next since with all the stop and go of the city the breaks wear down fast. Not a flaw Prodeco just says Clark’s ceramic Break pads are the best to use. Me. C’s installed my Thule roof rack and cargo basket on my new Subaru. They matched the prices I found online and scheduled an appointment for that week since they had everything in stock!
Mr C has a lot of space so their inventory and showroom is top notch. A generally great experience and I would recommend C&C to anybody looking for great service, knowledgable staff, and competitive pricing.

I have been buying bikes at MR. C for the last 25 years and now I am buying for my Grand Children… I read a few reviews about being expensive which I find not true.
You GET what you PAY for. He doesn’t sell JUNK bikes which you would find in every 99 cent stores. His Bikes are Top quality and very rarely needs repair. I have been taking my bikes in for alignment or minor repairs and was never charged a Penney.
Mr. Cs service is AAA+ and the girl behind the counter who some complain is not friendly, HEY give her a Break. We all wake up sometimes on the left side. She is a true hard working girl who always will go out of her way to make a customer satisfied.

This place is terrible, I’ve only been here because I live a few blocks away and it’s the closest if I really need a tube.
First off the service is bad, they don’t help you unless you’re looking to buy a bike other wise you have to ask and when you do the lady who works there is really rude.
The first time I came by this place I came for a tube, at the time I didn’t know much and I just bought one that was the right size for my tire but the valve wasn’t so I went back with my receipt and told the lady who sold me the tube that I needed one with a longer valve and that I would like to return this one. She had the nerve to tell me that they didn’t carry that brand at the shop. The big guy took a look at it and allowed me to exchange it but even he said they didn’t carry that brand. So what happened? Did they find that off the street and sell it to me?! I couldn’t believe it.
The next time I went to the shop was also for a tube, I purchased two in the right size and right valve length. I was having a friend put together a new bike for me, when I picked up the bike my friend told me both tubes i handed him were punctured but he patched it for me. Once again, unbelievable.
Overall this place is a dumpster, never going back.

I own three bikes (road, mountain and commuter) and I bought them all from Mr. C. They have a great selection, and their work is great. They may not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
For my mountain bike (most recent purchase) he made me an offer, I went home and googled and went back that week and bought it – he was in line with prices I saw online and their service is great.
On my road bike, I broke a spoke a couple weeks after I bought the bike, and Mr C’s re spoked the whole wheel for free. That’s typical of the service I’ve gotten there over the last ten years or so. I highly recommend them.

Saw the reviews and was hesitant to visit this store and get my first road bike. But since it was really near where I currently live, I gave in and went in. Well what have you, I experienced entirely the opposite of what most others went through. I told him my intention, he showed me the available bikes in stock and he was willing to match the prices at BH. No run around or trying to upsell anything, he gave me choices and I picked the best bike for what I could afford. Couldn’t be happier with my Trek 1.2C.
Came back for more accessories and what I have found is that Mr C stocks more choices than the competitors in the area. Of course, we know they have to make money to stay in business so just be ready to pay advertised price. You can definitely haggle but a few bucks really worth the trouble when you can browse and try them on/​see the item physically?
He also spent a lot of time with the bike fitting and positioning that I don’t think the other store would do for me. So overall happy with them and I think you should give them a try even if you have read some of the not so favorable reviews…
I also just called them today to tell them I may need a shorter stem as I am having issues with the reach, and they said just come in and they’ll replace the stem anytime since they have a 3 month stem replacement policy for bike purchases…

I have been going here for years for everything I need for my bike, the staff is super friendly and the selection and price points are great. I have to say a true staple in our community.

I went in again the other day to buy something. The Spanish woman does not greet me nor did she say thank you after and before purchase. She didn’t say a word to me and no eye contact. I even asked her how much and she didn’t reply. Just grilling at me when I’m a regular customer that did not bother anyone. This place just gets worse and worse

I work nearby and commute via bike– the staff at Mr. C’s always helps me out when I need something last minute.
Once got a flat and the woman who works there opened early to help me patch things up. Nice people all around. Haven’t bought anything beyond new tires and small parts, but always a pleasant experience.

If I could give them negative starts I would. They are expensive, didn’t want to lower prices even with additional items, they were rude and snobbish with a first time client… Don’t recommend them, trust me and save your self a headache and possibly ruining your day and go somewhere else…

I’ve been going to Mr C’s for years and I’ve always had fantastic service. I don’t give them easy jobs… they fix my wheelchair, which is a little out of the box for most bike shops, because the measurements are a little different, they need different tools etc, but the technicians here are GENIUS! They can fix ANYTHING! If they don’t have the right tool… they make one! Time and again they have solved difficult repair jobs for me.
The owner Carlos, and the manager, Sandy, are really nice and make you feel welcome and comfortable, and what they don’t know about bikes doesn’t need to be known! I know because my repair jobs take a while, so I see lots of satisfied customers come and go and I hear them discussing bikes.
I live out of the area now, but I keep coming back even tho it is far, because i just cant find the excellent knowledge, service, attention or great prices elsewhere.

A bit on the pricey side — if you’re doing some major shopping save yourself some major bucks and go with amazon. Service here is about subpar.

Was there last weekend to get a bike for my girlfriend. When we got there
the place was crowded. We were acknowledged immediately and told that would be with as soon as possible which was fine cause it gave us time to look around. Within 5 minuets we had a sales person and believe me the guy was great. He walked my girlfriend through the selection process and the sale. Let me just say that this is the only place to buy in Brooklyn. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable
unlike the rest of the snob filled shops. I already own a custom bike but I
will go back to Mr C’s Mountain Bike next weekend. Went back 6/18,got a
killer deal on a Cannondale Bad Boy for myself.
