Moon River Chattel

I came to visit my Brooklyn friends and they took me to Moon River after brunch. I have to say this place is adorable. I love how it’s set up as a old general store. It’s has great, unique home merchandise your prolly not find anywhere else. The customer service was also good, they didn’t breathe down your back and had a chill vibe. Definitely worth checking out if your in the area.

I agree with many other reviewers about the lack of warmth when one enters the store. A smile, a greeting, a «Let me know if you need help», not being on computer or phone, would in some cases, inspire people to want to buy something. I know that in the past I have bought something because the salesperson was so nice. I’m older now and don’t do that but warmth could get Moon River Chatel more customers.

I bought a flask, and when I asked for an engraver they recommended, they didn’t have one. But the extremely friendly and patient salesperson got on the computer and did a little research. She even called a couple of places to check if they did engraving. It was a slow afternoon, and there weren’t a lot of people in the store, but even so, she went above and beyond to help.
I ended up buying a few other things I had no intention of buying before I walked in. But again, Brooklyn twee is my thing, and they got it in spades.

They have a nice selection but it is a bit hard to find particular items especially when the saleswomen often are stationed behind the register and not on the floor.

Great spot in billly burg to get your apartment set up with a very carefully chosen assortment of home goods. Their products range from cleaning items, tableware, candles, lighting, bedding and furniture. The stock is updated frequently, as I go quite frequently and there is usually something new! Be sure to check out the large furniture store across the street!

This store carries unique household and personal items — ideal for gifts. It smells wonderful in here so feel free to enter for the scent alone. They sell anything from leather bags and local body sprays to candles, gift cards, notebooks and flasks. Their packaging is above par — brown paper gift boxes and bags nicely wrapped with a simple company logo/​name. Yes it is expensive but gifts aren’t cheap! They make a great line of canvas travel bags unlike any other I have seen — durable and stylish and check-​in size! Check this place out when you have no idea what to buy for someone.

I am going to mimic a lot of what is already said about this store.
Firstly, it’s gorgeous. They have captured the rustic-​chic look to a T, with a seamless blend of antique and contemporary décor. I always visit just to wander with awe and jealously. The prices are nonsense, for the most part. However, if you live in the city and rarely, if ever, leave it, then this is the closest you’re going to get to antiques and you’ll have to pay a high price for someone else to schlep it to you.
The staff wasn’t exactly nice to us… I mean, their door was open and they had been open for 5 minutes but they tried to shoo us out of the store because they weren’t ready or something. Then why is your door open?!
The company also offers reclamation services, but I have no experience with that.

What a joke. Beautiful stuff, for ridiculously marked up prices. I mean… crazy marked up. And like others have said, the staff definitely would not be mistaken for being friendly. My boyfriend has pulled just as nice stuff off of the street… and that shit was free.

Hubby’s favorite store in Williamsburg. The dry goods store feel of the space is so perfect for the selection of products offered. It speaks to the fact that Moon River is the originator of great shopping on the west end of Grand Ave. Everything from great lighting fixtures made from reclaimed metal works to eggshell thin porcelain to unbleached Egyptian cotton linens can be found here. The best thing that they have are the refinished antiques that are housed across the street from their main store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Even if you don’t buy anything, just visiting the store space is very inspirational.

Discovered this store today during an afternoon of combing home furnishing stores in Williamsburg and it was definitely my favorite. As another reviewer has mentioned, you get the real-​thing with pieces appealing to one of (or a combination) of the following styles: rustic, French country (think Brittany, not Provence), classic, antique. I found the store staff very friendly. Also the quantity and range of pieces in this store makes it a better stop than similar shops in Manhattan where stock is more limited – so if you are on a hunt for an item of this style, would place Moon River near the top of your shopping hit list.

In the sea of trendy Williamsburg hip-​stores, Moon River is a breath of fresh air. The aesthetic is classic and clean and will never wind up in the bin with discarded skinny jeans and lava lamps!
Additionally, their use of reclaimed lumber is just one of many testimonies to their environmentally friendly practices.

The place has a rustic feel to it. They have a lot of unique selections and their antique light fixtures are just awesome. The only down side is that it’s kind a expensive/​pricey but definitely a good place to wander around.

Moon River is my favorite home furnishing store in NYC. I like Industrial Antiques and converted pieces and they have them in spades. Their prices are more than fair vs. the review I just read.
Imagine having to drive to an auction 150 miles away, find a few pieces, drive them back, unload them, move them to your shop for repair and finishing and them sell them in your retail shop. I paid $ 875.00 for a wonderful Empire Dresser. Considering that I could easily pay $ 1,000.00 for a Crate and Barrel pre-​made piece of crap, I think I got a deal. You won’t find anything cheaper in Hudson, NY.
Anyway, I am a big fan.

I love their style. modern clean country classic american. 30s candy jars in a rack, 1905 subway lamps, chicken wire baskets, glass ware and more. Great gifts.

Expensive as hell (sadly), but lovely. They restore old furniture and other odds and ends like glassware. It’s all hand selected with not a dirty or broken thing in the store, so there’s no need to weed through the rubbish to find the goods — they are all right there in plain sight!
It’s all far too expensive for my budget, but it’s a great place to wander through, and you just might find a treasure within your budget. There was an adorable apron with ruffles that was $ 45 and I almost bought it.

I am writing this review because I was looking for something very specific and this place had it and lots of it so I wanted to share.
I went hoping to find antique or antique-​like metal hardware esp hooks for hanging coats/​towels/​creative ways for pulling back drapes etc. They had a great selection. The prices were fine and I picked up some meyers dish soap while I was there.
They definitely have a certain style of antique that they sell and the prices on that stuff is way out of my range but I was very happy to find this place.
Plus side– the few blocks around this store are abundantly filled with random antique and homegood stores. Another reason to take a wander over here.

Moon River is a beautiful store. They have a consistent, well-​edited selection of vintage chic home merchandise and impeccable display. I have been shopping here for years and never cease to be inspired.
They offer a range of home goods, from lampshades to salvaged doorknobs. They also have a small selection of refurbished antiques, which they restore themselves across the street… They will show you around their warehouse if you stop by, and offer non-​refinished finds at a lower price. Good source for old doors, tables, sinks, unique antiques, etc.
Amazing for gifts, kitchenware, lighting, vintage bulbs, lampshades, wrapping paper, books, gardening pots, small selection of sofas, and salvaged wood flooring.

I’m sorry, but… I have to be a little rude right now. I think the underlying principle of this store is nonsense.
Maybe not the underlying principle– I’d love to have beutiful things in my home. Wouldn’t you? But the price, the presentation, the attitude that I got from my trip there– all just bad, bad news.
I don’t know about you, but when I enter a small store and am the only customer, I appreciate some sort of salutation from whoever is working there. Don’t get me wrong– I’ve worked in retail, or in menial jobs, and I know it’s taxing to pretend to be interested in everyone who comes in. But there’s a certain degree of common decency communicated with a ‘Hi’ or even a smile. Or a look up. Come on. But that didn’t happen, in any sense, during my visit here. The girl at the counter could have cared less, and a man who entered later who I assumed to be a fellow consumer actually turned out to be some sort of employee… again, no recognition at all. Alright.
Apart from that… two «antique» wooden chairs for $ 200? Are you joking? Everything in here can be found other places for a quarter of the price. Nothing in here is original or earth-​shatteringly cool. And really, the whole shabby-​chic or sort of rustic-​chic thing drives me nuts. Just go out and find something that’s REALLY weathered, instead of paying crazy prices for something that only LOOKS old! Please.
Ugh.

Yes, it is convienent to get my glass screw top jars right here down the street for $ 15 instead of at Target for $ 5 but why should I? The antiques are lovely and come with a hefty price tag, like others have pointed out. I guess it depends on your priorities. Personally, I love the thrill of the hunt too much to succumb to the usual city mark-​up when the country beckons.
Instead I will pick up other unique items that are a really nice quality for not too much… I think. At least they are not at Target anyway. Found some pretty glass mini vases in fun shapes for $ 4.95, picked up some super luxury wrapping paper for $ 3.00 a sheet and chose a huge brick of soap that will last for months for a reasonable price. I like their classically simple dishes, too. Feels very Barefoot Contessa in here. The back garden is pretty and they even rent it out for your tea parties and such.
