Mona Lisa Bakery has been making delicious, handmade breads, cookies, cakes and pastries for over three generations. The traditional Italian breads like the prosciutto-​laced lard bread are baked in a coal-​fired oven. We have everything from chocolate-​covered cannolis to Amaretto cookies made with an imported almond paste and delicate Amaretto liqueur. Our enormous paninis come with over 30 combinations of fillings, such as grilled chicken with fontina cheese and mushrooms. There are also European-​style thin crust pizzas, brick oven baked with a variety of cheeses and toppings.

Established in 1963.

Mona Lisa Bakery has been making delicious, handmade breads, cookies, cakes and pastries since 1963. The interior of Mona Lisa, with its marble-​top tables, full bar, gelatos and sorbets will make you think you’re in a café in Rome. We even make our own wedding cakes, and ship our baked goods nationwide.

Been here a few times with a bunch of family members (2011⁄2012) for dessert. Too pricey for the quality. Some liked it, most of us thought it wasn’t worth the calories. It cost about 80 $ for 7 people and 40 $ for 4 people.

This place is a joke. I came here in hopes of satisfying my sweet tooth, but was disappointed. I don’t know a lot about Italian pastries, but I have loved every Italian pastry I have tried so far. Today, I decided to try a new bakery and a new pastry so I wound up in Mona Lisa Bakery. After browsing through the selection, I chose the best looking pastry and asked the worker what flavor it was. She did not know. She then went to the back to ask another guy and they told me it was caramel. Because I am a huge fan of caramel, I ordered it. I must say that it was utterly disgusting. I couldn’t taste any caramel flavor at all. In fact, I was basically eating cream and the cake itself was very soggy. If your pastries aren’t top notch or even close to mediocre, then at least train your employees enough to know what they’re selling.

I miss the cookies and bread since moving west…

Today was not the day to hit up new spots. They are under renovation and there was limited baked goods. Their pies looked /​sounded awesome (banana cream, blueberry) from the menu… with no pictures. Also, their display table screamed «tip me over so i can fall.» Not that im knockin it. The selection of cookies (hard to read… being on my tippy toes didnt help either) was surrounded by the holiday gift selection. Im sure i will update this review once the renovation is over.

Small bakery with very traditional italian bakery items. We didn’t have too many items but what we had was good. Cookies and cupcakes were good, but we would specifically call out the canoli’s, they were excellent. The filling in them was perfect and I wish we had bought more of them. If you crave a canoli definitely try them here.

new owners/​management sunk the ship. this place is seriously DANGEROUSLY unclean to be purchasing food from. i gave them several chances after new owners took over, but every time i’ve had to throw away $ 40 – 50 worth of OLD baked goods. even brownie bites were inedibly stale. i shudder to think how old they must have been!
the café area is dusty and falling apart. wait staff look like drug addicts — dirty nails, sloppy clothing, scab riddled faces. half the menu items were «unavailable at the moment.» just by looking around, you get to feel very uneasy about eating anything from there.
so i go, never to return. rip mona lisa. you were great once :(

Best bakery in this part of brooklyn. If you want 7 layer/​rainbow cookies this is where you come. The bread is always fresh and they have a great selection. I have nothing but great things to say about this place.

Went in to try some cookies and cannoli. Server was super nice and very helpful in explaining what their specialties are.
It’s a very small store but had a large selection of pastries, danish, etc. I was told they are famous for their bread so I bought a loaf and will let you know once I try it.
I bought a black and white cookie, three mini cannoli and an assortment of cookies.
The cannoli shell was a little soggy and overall didn’t taste very fresh They were already made. I prefer places that fill them to order. However, the flavor of the cream was very good. The black and white cookie was overcooked, dry and just meh. Cookies were tasteless and very disappointing. Certainly not worth the calories.
I live on Long Island but was raised in Brooklyn, and I like my desserts. I can’t say anything knocked me out and there are better choices in the area.

Got a cherry pie from there and was very unhappy. The crust was more like a cookie crust than a real flaky dough crust, also so much sugar on the crust. I felt like I was eating a big cherry cookie and not a cherry pie. Had one slice and threw the rest out

One of my fave bakeries. It’s 1 of those neighborhood bakeries that’s just not easy to forget, for some reason. Back in 1999, I remember buying a small peach pie & an assortment of pastries from Mona Lisa Bakery. I nearly finished the whole pie in 1 sitting. Lol. Everything was affordable, too, & I went to this bakery whenever I could. I’d love to go back next time I find again myself in NYC :)

Best pastries and breads in Brooklyn, Period. Their french bread and twisted seeded are amazing… their cannoli’s are the best… their sfogliattele’s are the only I will eat… all their cookies and pastries are fresh and delicious. They aren’t cheap… but they aren’t expensive either. You get what you pay for… and this place is worth every penny!

My daughter had special ordered a cake from this bakery for her birthday. When she picked up the cake, it was NOT the cake she ordered.
I immediately called the bakery (it was on a Saturday night) and informed them of what happened. The employees of this bakery worked hard to rectify this situation, and I met with the owner the following day. The cake we had ordered somehow disappeared, even though the owner and his wife showed us pictures of the cake that we ordered.
Yes, we were given a full refund, but I was very disappointed by the fact that the cake my daughter wanted and ordered was nowhere to be found, and all that the owner offered were lame excuses. Would we patronize this bakery again? NO WAY, there are other bakeries in my neighborhood that will get my money from now on.

This is a wonderful bakery, great space and tasty goodies. I had a cannoli tasting contest with cannolis from all over Bensonhurst and the majority my attendees chose Mona Lisa’s cannolis. They aren’t visually the most appealing but the taste is phenomenal. I also love their red velvet. Red velvet is such a trend now but so few places get is right. Mona Lisa has a wonderful cream cheese frosting and the cake is moist. All of their bakery items are above average.
The space is large and clean and the workers are usually friendly. My only gripe is that they are a little pricey compared to other Italian bakeries in the area.

First off: WHOA it smells good in here. And it’s great to see a classic Italian bakery in the same place for half a century doing what they do best.
The assortment of cookies, pastries, danishes, breads, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, brownies, more cookies, and gelato… Are you KIDDING me? I took me an hour to decide what I wanted.
And for hot plate large batch coffee, the Lavazza they offer tastes pretty damn good.
It’s a good thing they’re far from my apartment or I’d be 500lbs.

I have not been to this bakery, but I was fortunate enough to have a friend bring a box of Mona Lisa’s sesame cookies to a party. Everyone kept claiming how good these cookies were. I doubted, because it looked like an ordinary cookie, shaped in a S, and covered in sesame seeds. But after I took my first bite, I truly was surprised at how delicious these treats were. It had a crumbly texture with a subtle but noticeable sweetness to it. Delicious alone or with a cup of tea or coffee. I will definitely make a trek out here just to order a box of these. It’s well worth it!

This used to be the place in the neighbourhood to get all your bread, treats, pastries, coffee, rolls.ect. Sadly they hire and fire girls every other day and no one knows what they are doing anymore. Old soggy pastries and moldy sesame seeds on bread is sad. Pidgeons often get in the store in summer months when they leave the door open and they crap on the bread.
Sometimes there is loud rap music blasting in there.
Go 5 blocks to tasty pastry instead.

High quality baked goods! The bread is great, the 7 layer cookies are great, the italian cookies are great!
The prices are a little higher compared to other bakeries in the area but it’s worth it. Pizza dough is pricey at $ 3 a pound but when your wife wants to make foccacccia the high price is a-​ok with me!
