Nope. $ 25 + tip completely down the drain. What a waste.
I wasn’t paying much attention, so I don’t know what the man did to my toes, but whatever he did was not good or right. I kept my toes under the light/​air at the salon for *25* minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever waited that long for my toes to «dry.» I put on my socks and shoes, walked home 10 minutes, and found that my pedicure was completely ruined. Crushed and rumpled like they’d been involved in a multiple car pile up on the little toe highway. Poor little toes :(
Tried this place out because it’s closer to home, but I’m definitely taking my business back to Q Spa on 5^th Ave in North Park Slope where they always do an amazing job and don’t steal my money.

I hesitated at first to walk into Mirai because it looks very upscale and I wanted something a bit more casual. However I finally walked in earlier this year and it has since become my favorite salon. I go in every few weeks for a gel manicure and every time I leave, I look forward to my next visit. It’s relaxing, the technicians are friendly, and they do a fabulous job.

A lot of old reviews on here, but every customer seemed to be a regular and they did a great job on the pedicure, according to my girlfriend. She’s the expert.
Maybe this is an unknown gem, in which case please ignore this review and move along.

Love Mirai — I get e pedicure which is well down and wears well. and I use the massage chair which I could stay in for ever! Kay is a neighborhood entrepreneur and very good for Fort Greene. She renovated a few years ago and the store is pretty attractive.

I have walked passed Mirai Wellness Spa for years but never thought to walk in. From the outside, one might think that this is an extremely upscale salon, once you enter that is not the case. The ambiance is relaxing, but the environment could be kept up a little better.
My pedicure was enjoyable– even though the tech was a bit too chatty with her co workers, the gel manicure looks great and I hope that I can get 2 weeks out of it. I will go back. Sorry to see so many negative reviews… does the owner NOT check Unilocal?Yikes !

I went to Mirai for a manicure last week. When I walked in my nails were about ½ an inch long. I asked her to cut them a little, she cut them to a ¼ inch, when I left I felt snags around the nails but thought no big deal. between 1 & 3 days 4 of my nails began to split and I had to file them down to little nubs. When I called the Salon to tell them what happened, I was questioned for about 10 mns and then the woman on the phone finally said, I don’t know what you want me to do. Here’s a suggestion better customer service and try using sharp instruments. Here’s how the conversation should’ve gone. I’m so sorry this happened, please come in an receive a free manicure from us and I promise we will set you up with our finest technician, we’ll also ask our technicians to take a look at the instruments they use. I get that not everyone get’s it right, I mean my nails will grow back, but when a customer drops $ 20 including a tip for a manicure. I should get better service all around. If I could give no stars I would.

For the price, my gel manicure is not very good. I’ve been to much better salons than this that do an extraordinary job for the same price and are so cordial with wonderful facilities. I won’t come back here. Place was dirty and the staff was absent minded.

Just had the best mani/​pedi of my life. Quiet, tranquil spot. Toes look great, feel great. Staff were respectful and kind. I’ll be back for sure!

I enjoyed my experience here for an impromptu pamper day. I originally got my brows waxed. Shortly after leaving I went back for a mani/​pedi the same day. I received prompt service and attention. The owner was very nice and fashionable as well as the manicurist.
I usually receive wine and trail mix from my go to spa in DC but this place was still nice even though this wasn’t provided.
The message chair was everything! I would definitely go back if I was in Brooklyn

I wish I could give this place one and a half stars. This was my second time here, and certainly my last.
The first time I got a manicure, I was underwhelmed based on what I paid.
I came back on Saturday the 16^th for a mani/​pedi. I’m pretty sure the cost was $ 37, but it wasn’t worth what I paid. My manicures usually last about 4 – 5 days before they show signs of wear or growth. 8 of my 10 nails are chipped. I haven’t been playing with acetone, gardening, or washing dishes without gloves, so I really can not understand why I need a polish change 48 hours after my manicure.
The pedicure was fine, but I’d suggest bringing your own polish.

This place is great! Went to Mirai for the first time on Sunday. I went to Cathy for a gel mani and a regular pedi. She did a fantastic job and really took her time. I’m very picky with my manis and I don’t have any complaints. The place was calm & serene and CLEAN.
Also, the owner/​manager (not sure?) is a total doll. Very sweet and accommodating. She called out pretty much every customer that walked through the door by name! A rarity in NYC. And, since I was getting a gel mani but a regular pedi, I wanted to make sure the nail colors matched. Well, she took the time to sample the gel colors and regular OPI colors to make sure I had a perfect match. She stopped by my manicure table just as Cathy was starting to polish and made a suggestion (adding a layer of white gel color underneath my real color) to achieve the color I was looking to match. And oh… what a terrific suggestion. Perfect match.
Will def be back.

You can tell when someone doesn’t mind giving you a pedicure.
Like the energetic, humble, not-​afraid-​of-​the grimey, probably underpaid and under-​appreciated Jasmine, my pedicurist at Mirai, who washed out my basin before skillfully tending to my toes. My pedicure was truly relaxing and didn’t take all day. I felt pampered and my feet looked beautiful.
And you can tell when someone does mind touching your feet.
Like Mirai’s too-​good-​for-​doing-​pedicures owner who’d rather make another customer wait at least half an hour with her feet in the water than give her a pedi. The owner sat there waiting for poor Jasmine to finish my pedicure and jumped on my manicure, so that Jasmine could give the patiently waiting customer a pedicure.
Had no idea this «spa» was rated so low on Unilocal before I tried it or I wouldn’t have tried it. I wasn’t impressed the usual chipping after two days manicure or the non-​tempting massage room on the second level. Honestly I was scared to ask for a massage for fear that they would tell me to go up there. It looked like a junkie attic on hoarders, only all the mess was pushed back away so you couldn’t really tell what was going on.

Randomly walked into this place on a Wed morning, and it was decent.
The pedicure massage chairs are really nice, but I noticed that the place wasn’t exactly super clean.
My technician did a good job overall, but nearly nicked off a chunk of my skin when doing my manicure.
$ 35 + tax & tip for a manipedi, will be going back to my usual spot of Breeze Nail Spa near East Village for the same price and higher standard of cleanliness and not-​as-​nice chairs.

I used to go here a lot, but discovered it was not clean and stopped going about two years ago.
Would definitely not recommend waxing here — not hygienic with undesirable consequences.

It’s really too bad. Mirai was ok in 2007 but now it’s awful. On the surface the salon should be a joy to visit. It has a nice appearance and good marketing but it all ends there. The staff must be poorly underpaid because they lack precision and have no customer rapport. The vision and the reality simply do not line up at Mirai. I supported this place in 2007, 2008, and decided to go back in 2013 because I was home, but things are worse now. For instance in 2007, the guy who did my nails (UV gel) was a complete pervert who would say inappropriate and unwelcomed remarks while he had me hostage. In 2008, I got a facial there and then broke out fiercely (I don’t think the tools were sanitized). The nail techs are sloppy /​messy/​inprecise for a regular manicure. Finally I visited in MLK day for a Shellac manicure. I called 1 hour in advance though I live 5 minutes away. I was told to walk in then I got there and I was left sitting for 10 minutes with no idea of how long I had to wait. When asked, I was told 30 minutes. Also instead of answering the customers they answer each other. It’s a mess. I think the owners are uninvolved and it’s gone to crap. So now I stick to the nail salons in the city.

To get good results at Mirai, you have to advocate on your own behalf.
1) Make sure you ask for a senior nail technician, not a trainee. If you don’t specifically ask, you’re likely to get a less experienced technician. I did, and when my pedicure was finished it had to be removed and done all over again by a senior tech because it was so messed up. For a straightforward pedicure, I was in the salon for THREE HOURS. Not how I wanted to waste my Saturday morning. I was not even offered a discount or an apology for the inconvenience.
2) Keep an eye on the tools, water bowl, towels, etc. I was seated at a manicure station with just a piece of paper towel placed on the table; after asking for a towel to cover the cruddy-​looking plastic wrist rest, a (real) towel was provided.
3) Check the foot bath before they fill it with water and motion you to put your feet in. I was seated at a pedicure station that looked a little dingy. I asked them to spray it down first, and they did. But if you don’t pay attention… well, fingers crossed you don’t end up with a toenail fungus.
4) If something doesn’t look clean, ask them to clean it. I was told to put my bare feet into a nail dryer on the floor that was visibly dirty. I asked them to clean it first. After a little bit of push back, the tech finally agreed to wipe it down.
5) The owner of the salon likes to stand around and chat up the customers. But she is not an effective leader, nor is she proactive about keeping the salon as clean as it should be. Although a very nice woman, her business savvy and attention to detail are pretty weak.
Does this all add up to a relaxing spa-​like experience? Heck no. This is a utilitarian nail joint that is a bit overpriced. But it’s right down the street from my apartment so it’s where I end up when I need a last-​minute pedicure.
If you’re seeking a relaxing spa environment, GO ELSEWHERE.

got a wax here. the whole area feel stubbly, meaning the hair was not taken out by the root, but there is also an unacceptable amount of stray hairs that were missed.
AND, I have a blotchy red rash to boot. this sucks. never going back.

I’m not sure why this place has such bad reviews.
Went there yesterday with my mom. I bite my fingernails so I got a pedicure and eyebrow wax and treated my mom to a manicure. I loved the place and the people were so friendly! Everyone was willing to accomodate me and my mom, considering it was her first time getting a mani. I’ll definitely frequent this place. It’s convenient, cheap enough and clean so it’s cool in my book.

Every business has their bad days and I try very hard not to do negative reviews on Unilocal because I am a consultant who has worked for many small businesses and know the damage it can do. However, I have been to Mirai multiple times over the years because it is very convenient and the owner is incredibly sweet. However, the service has been hit or miss and honestly mostly MISS.
I’m very easy to please. I rarely get manicure/​pedicures so if I actually think it looks bad, then is MUST be bad. Like other reviewers, I had to supervise the woman who did my nails. She was sloppy had paint all over my toes that I had to ask her to clean which apparently she had no intention of doing. With my manicure, she did a horrible job on the cuticles so I had to ask her to re-​do them. She then pulled too much and my finger started to bleed. I had to STOP her to tell her not to paint OVER the blood as I requested clear polish. However she just tried to throw some top coat on and considered that the clear polish. When I asked her if it was clear nail polish. She kind of shrugged and said it was top coat as if it was the same thing which it’s not. One of the women who is actually really good and I should have requested had to go and get the clear polish. She proceeded to have attitude from that point on. She also stop and made me pay before my manicure which may be standard practice but I didn’t see anyone else doing.
The worst part is that I am now home I can see just how SLOPPY a job she did on my feet, polish is all pooled at the bottom. I might as well have done it myself. Also, she did end up painting over blood in manicure so now there is dried blood painted over and visible. Also visible? Particles of dust from the nail dryer which are now also dried into my nails. If you are desperate and live close by, it’s functional enough. But if you have time look elsewhere do your nails a favor and look some place else or enter at your own risk. I only wish I had the name of the two good technicians they have. They would be worth your time.

I feel bad leaving a negative review because my first experience was very positive here (very friendly, went out of their way to accommodate me), but after my experience the second time around, I’m afraid I won’t be going back.
My second mani/​pedi was fine, but in the middle of the manicure, a tech who was working on some guy’s feet took the cuticle nipper my tech had JUST USED on me right out of the little dish of water it was sitting in on my table and used it on her client! Gross gross gross!!!
Shortly after visiting Mirai I noticed something weird with one of my nails … I don’t know if it was a fungus or not, but I drowned my toes in tea tree & oregano oil for about a month and whatever it was has gone away … I can’t confirm that I got it from there, but I was so grossed out by the lack of hygiene that tech displayed (don’t know if it’s a salon-​wide issue, but everyone who works there should know better) that I won’t be going back.
It’s a shame because the owner seemed really nice the first time I was there & everyone was friendly.
